One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Anyone who has been diagnosed as having May-Thurner Syndrome is invited to inquire how to join the May-Thurner Syndrome Forum that I have begun on Google Groups.

Simply e-mail me at woodcreek12@aol.com to request a personal invitation to join our group. Our mission is to share information on MTS and stent procedures, as most of us with MTS have stents in our iliac veins.

May-Thurner Syndrome and Iliac Vein Compression Syndrome (IVCS) are the same thing, a congenital abnormality that causes compression on the iliac vein, which over time can lead to a DVT.

Tiredness after a DVT + multiple PEs

I would like to hear other peoples experiences with tiredness after DVT and PE.. So far I feel like a granny, I need 2 naps a day if I'm listening 100% to my body..
I have heard that tiredness after blood clots can take up to a year to disappear and I'm just wondering how people can get back to work/normal life, when being constantly tired..
My GP says that she will help me get completely back to my normal shape. I'm still wondering whether I have a genetic disorder or if it was "just" because of birth-control..

Your symptoms?

I am going to the Dr. in a couple of weeks. But I was wondering what were your symptoms of DVT?

I noticed about two months ago I started having cramping in my right calf. My husband would rub it and it would go away. Now it is a constant aching, cramping, fluttering, throbbing feeling through out my leg all day on and off. It doesn't hurt when I stand on it or put pressure. I did the whole bending my foot up to check and see if I felt pain when stretching and I only just felt the pull from stretching not a sharp distinct pain. Basically my muscles felt really right and it almost felt hard to stretch. I don't have redness or bruises. But one thing that does concern me is on the back left side of my right calf there is a pea size lump. It doesn't really hurt but of course my whole back of my thigh has been hurting so its part of the pain. Feels like it is by a big vein.

I honestly feel the throbbing/twitching feelings when I sit on my bed at night the most. Like I said I feel it... read more

Vitamin K after stopping warfarin?

My Dr. is recommending I stop taking warfarin 3 months post calf DVT and shifting to daily aspirin. Has anyone gotten advice on continuing to watch vitamin K intake? Cause of the DVT might be estrogen therapy, which I've discontinued; there don't seem to be any other likely culprits. Did all the blood tests prior to starting heparin/warfin, they were negative. No surgery, injury or long plane trips.

I'm experiencing that same anxiety mentioned by others; hated going on this stuff, but now worry it may be a bit soon to go off it. Don't want to jinx myself if binging on spinach salads will up the chances of getting another DVT!

A big thank you to all here who have pointed out that those white TED stockings do NOT provide the compression you need to be up and about with a DVT! My doctor did not seem to be aware of this. They've made life more bearable.

Leg Pain

I was diagnosed about 2 weeks ago with DVT in left calf. Started on xarelto 15 mg
twice a day for 3 weeks then 20 mg once a day. Past few days I have been having
pain in back of my right leg. I'm worried it's another clot. My doctor doesn't seem
concerned and said it's likely just a side effect of the meds. That it's highly
unlikely to get a new clot while on blood thinners. Also I still have a lot of pain in
the leg with the DVT. I sure wish I would start feeling better and could stop
worrying. If my other leg keeps hurting should I push for an ultrasound or am I
being paranoid!?

Any other Gay guys? Hard to ask doctor these..

So I am 37 years old and was shocked to find I had a DVT!
Thought it was a sciatic nerve thing minus the buttocks part of the pain.
So anyhow, I am a Gay man and have a few questions...
I'm being treated with lovenox injections hope to end those in a day or two and
also taking warfarin.
When my warfarin levels are therapeutic I will end the injections.

My questions are;
1. Are there any sexual side effects or lovenox & warfarin treatments?
2. Can I engage in anal sex (receiver) without fear of rectal bleeding?
3. Will I be able to continue doing my job as a Plumber while having/being
treated for DVT?

I appreciate any responses, and I'm sorry to raise this topic here, but I would
feel really awkward asking these to my doctor!

Okay I am a 14 year old female and I have May Thurner Syndrome and I have a vascular surgeon Dr.Franz he is awesome! Well I have had 2 angioplastys and he is was not planning on putting a stent in until I was about 23 and stopped growing.Well he found a stenosis that might be growing and getting progressively worst. So he said that he will be putting the stent in in august after I go back for my regular 3 month appointment and testing as usual I will have a venous duplex(ultra sound)and an mrv.I currently have a dvt and have been on coumadin for 7 months when I go back to him in august I will come off the coumadin yay! I am worried about having the stent placed because I might grow and then I don't know what will hapopen and he said that once the stent is in there he can't move it. So yeah I am kind of scared. How was your or is your experience with the stent?!?

I have been on Xarelto for 3 months and every time I wake up in a panic after a terrible
dream. The nightmares started the night I started taken the tablet (day 3 in hospital) and
have happened every day since. I am not on any other medication and when I mentioned it
to my Dr said it's not listed on the "side effect list." Has anyone else had side effect?

feels like electric shocks

Hello everyone. Diagnosed with DVT from lower intestine all the way down to my foot last April 24th. On 7.5 mg. warfarin since then My INR is 2.7 nearly every time it is checked, every 30 days. I am 60 years old.
I won't go into the pain and limitations which have lasted longer than either I or my Dr. expected. My last ultrasound showed that the clots in my calf have resolved, but the rest remain. I am very discouraged.
The past two weeks I have been up and around more than ever getting as much exercise as I can stand hoping for faster healing. The thing that brought me to you more than anything is that in my thigh I keep getting sensations like shooting electric shocks, and wonder if any of you get this...whatever it is. Also, I had arthritis in my knee before the DVT, and now it is so much worse. It feels like there's a huge screw in my knee that hurts me badly. Can anyone relate? I feel like a real mess.

I have had a Iliofemoral DVT that was misdiagnosed whilst I was
pregnant and post C-Section it had spread down my leg all the way
to my calve. this was 2 years ago. I had bad PTS symptoms last
year and had stents placed in my Ileac and another vein in my
pelvis in Feb this year. I have been wearing a class 2 compression
stocking for the last 2 years. In Dec last year I started noticing
a red area at the back of my heel towards the bottom of my foot.
Two doctors told me that it was from wearing my compression
stockings 24/7. I got new compression stockings at the beginning
of this year and since having them a new red area has developed
further up on the back of my heel. Both these areas feel very
tender. If I don't wear my stocking the redness and tenderness
gets better over a two week period but I get other pains and
cramps in my leg. I have also tried to wear a class 1 stocking but
with having a 2 year old I am on my feet a lot so the class 2
stocking ... read more

DVT - now what?

I was told by the ER a week ago I had small blood clots in my left leg. they gave me a Xeralto RX to get filled and told me to follow up with my Dr. My insurance wouldn't pay for that drug so my dr put me on Warfarin instead. My insurance was canceled and im trying to get it back now but in the mean time im a little concerned.
There is a lot of swelling in my leg and an area that is very hard like there is a lump inside it was very painful to even have my clothes or blanket touch it ( a little better now) it gets red at times and I swear in the morning it sometimes looks like a large bruise that then clears up later in the day.
My husband and mom want me to go back to the ER to get it looked at but I don't want to go back there. all my Dr tells me to do is stretch my leg and maybe put heat on the area that is sore .. but I can not do that at all. I can not lift my left leg above my right ankle cause its swollen so much... and heat makes it hurt more.

I read about that PTS and... read more

Bee stings and Coumadin/Warfarin

Has anybody has unusual reactions to bee/wasp sting while on Coumdin or warfarin?

Its been many years since I have been stung by a bee or a wasp, but somehow I manged to get stung twice in the last three months while on Coumadin. The first sting had a reaction that lasted two weeks and my INR went up to 3.3 from previous readings of 1.9 and 1.7.

I was stung again this week and two days later, my hand swelled considerably, turned bright red and was hot to the touch. Benadryl did not stop the swelling. The doctor prescribed antibiotics and within 36 hours my hand is back to normal.

I researched the web, but cannot find anything to address this. I'd love to know if others have had similar experiences.
