Your symptoms?

I am going to the Dr. in a couple of weeks. But I was wondering what were your symptoms of DVT?

I noticed about two months ago I started having cramping in my right calf. My husband would rub it and it would go away. Now it is a constant aching, cramping, fluttering, throbbing feeling through out my leg all day on and off. It doesn't hurt when I stand on it or put pressure. I did the whole bending my foot up to check and see if I felt pain when stretching and I only just felt the pull from stretching not a sharp distinct pain. Basically my muscles felt really right and it almost felt hard to stretch. I don't have redness or bruises. But one thing that does concern me is on the back left side of my right calf there is a pea size lump. It doesn't really hurt but of course my whole back of my thigh has been hurting so its part of the pain. Feels like it is by a big vein.

I honestly feel the throbbing/twitching feelings when I sit on my bed at night the most. Like I said I feel it all day on and off but I notice when I am sitting with my legs up I really feel it more.

Also the cramping gets really bad right above the back of my knee in my thigh. The hamstring area is REALLY tight. But the constant throbbing and fluttering/twitches? Those are mostly in the back of my calf and sometimes even to my feet.

The only other thing I notice is my feet are REALLY cold. Both of my feet are really cold. I did read that can be a sign of poor circulation.

And BTW I am 29 female and a good bit overweight. So even though I am young I could see how my weight is a big warning for DVT.

Just curious in general what your symptoms where and what you guys may think about my right leg? Thanks!

Hi there
my leg felt " heavy", that's the best way to describe it. Behind my knee felt tight,
the inside of my thigh felt like I'd pulled a muscle, then the swelling started . No
amount of ibuprofen 800mg would touch the pain, I could walk only a few steps,
then stop in tears.
Please, please go to the ER. If it's nothing then fine, but if it is a dvt, it could
take you out in a heartbeat . I so, so wish I'd gone when my pain first started
,but I left it hoping it would go away. If I'd gone sooner, they may have been able
to remove my knee to groin clot, as it is, it's still present a year on

Good luck x

I'm with Claire - please go to the ER now. Tell them you're worried about a clot. They can do a doppler ultrasound to check.

Last Dec I was dx with DVT and PE - the first symptom back in Nov was cramps in my calves. At that point the docs didn't even think about clots and I got the run around about eating more potassium (already did) blah blah blah. Then I got fevers spiking up to 104 and felt a hard spot on my leg. Finally got to a doc who knew her stuff and ended up in the hospital. I wish I had known in the beginning that calf cramps are a classic sign of clots.

I never had any swelling/brusing. I was 27, active, a normal weight, blah blah blah.

So please go to the ER and don't leave until they ultrasound your legs. If it is clot(s) the sooner the better for treatment.

Well I went to the ER tonight. No swelling and an ultrasound didn't find anything. So I don't know what is wrong with me. I didn't do any blood tests or anything. I see my family DR. in two weeks. They suggested a follow up ultrasound if my leg is still hurting.

They of course told me if it gets worse, swollen or hot/red to come in.

Its so frustrating I am having this constant throbbing feeling all over my leg and no clue from what! Thanks for your advice/input!

Hi Michelle! I'm so glad you got your leg checked out - sorry you now have to wait to see your doctor to find out what else to check for, but I'm glad it isn't (or at least doesn't seem to be) clots.

I really hope your doc can figure this out for you!!!!

contant throbing in both calfs. It's diving me crazy. No pain -just trhobing that you can see and feel. If I put a heavy object on the area you can see that object really moving! The heavier the object the more it moves! I can feel it right now. Activity - treadmill 3 to 4 times a week - raising my heart rate to 130. I'm somewhat concern based on feeling it all of the time. I would rate the trobing as a 9 out of 10 being the highest. I'm 63 and I have had two hip sugeries within the last year. What is your opinion?

Hey there,

My symptoms for each one of my legs was a little different. I'll describe both.

1st DVT Left leg, Femoral from groin to below knee. First syptom was a pulling behind the knee. Felt like a pulled muscle. It gradually got worse to the point where it would wake me up at night. My leg started to swell and turn purple-ish. THe day before I went into the hospital, it felt like literally something was cutting off the circulation in my leg at the very top. I thought maybe my pants were too tight or something. The next day, I could barely walk 4-5 steps without almost passing out on the floor. Dizzy, nauseas, couldnt breathe.

With the second one, Massive clot right thigh. Femoral, Illiac, Popliteal, all superficial veins affected. Groin to knee. Felt again like I had a pulled a muscle in my groin. Minimal swelling that I felt or noticed. What drew me into the hospital this time was that it continually got worse and again I couldnt walk far without passing out, dizzy etc.. That had never happened to me except for the first DVT so I went in to be sure and voila, here we go again.

Ive never heard of any of this. I've been
experiencing pain in my right calf over
last few weeks. I noticed it acually hurts
behind the knee now. I'm a fitness
instructor and it hurts more when I'm
working out. Are these symptoms?

My warning signs for extensive DVT I developed 09, was pain when standing up in the
groin area. Very Noticeable swelling around ankle. Shooting pains throughout the leg
when lying down. Very painful and difficult to walk and hot cold fever like feelings
towards finally getting the DVT picked up by my Doctor. I still get a lot of pain in the
leg, but know it is not DVT. What I will really watch out for if ever scared of DVT
again is swelling around the ankle.

well im 18 (i know young) and just noticed this morning this pain in my
calf, its posterior and towards the left. It is a pain I can point out
exactly where it is. When I flex my foot there is minor pain, but once
it starts stretching the pain goes away. Walking does give my calf pain,
but it is sustainable. My calf feels sort of tight. I havent noticed
much if any swelling, and I am an athlete in good shape. The thing is I
have really muscular calves, so its hard to tell if my left is swollen.
Also my left leg is warmer then the right. I know i probably shouldnt be
worrying, but any suggestions?

Nick,
You have some classic symptoms of DVT, tightness of calf, leg feeling warmer.
You should have this checked out by a doctor.
Have you sustained any injuries that would explain how you are feeling?

Being an athlete, you could also have a problem with the tendon, which can give some similar symptoms. I've had both, and they can feel quite similar. Either way, it's best to get it checked out properly.

I have noticed a lump behind my left knee swelling there. It has been hurting for several weeks mostly in the evenings when I am relaxing. The lump was not there earlir today now it is. I have swelling in my ankles and I feel like the pain radiates down the left side of my back into my left back knee. Do you think this is a DVT?

In the back outside portion of my left knee I have been having a lot of really bad cramping and constant pain. Also cramping across the top of my left foot. I have recently had a back injury and been laid up quite a bit. I seem to have vericose veins popping up more and more lately. Is this a sign of a blood clot?
