One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

I had a DVT while pregnant almost 3 years ago. I have since flown long haul and took innohep injections for the flights. All went well thank God. I am going on holiday in July and the flight is 4 hours and I'm guessing that the seating will be cramped enough. At this stage and for that duration of a flight, does anyone know if I would need any blood thinners this time around. I have heterozygous factor v leiden.

worried about clot travelling

Hello everyone, I am 30 weeks pregnant and 3 weeks ago I was told I have a
blood clot in my left leg in the upper thigh area. I was in hospital for 3 nights
while they started to treat me with inohep injections and compression
stockings. However, I just spoke to a physical therapist as I'm struggling to get
back on my feet and she wanted to know what the doctors had recommended
in terms of bed rest or activity etc. I was told to try and carry on as normal but
I haven't really been able to leave the house or return to work as its still too
painful. I'm now worried though that I may have increased the risk of the clot
travelling because I have tried to walk around the house a little bit and I've
walked to and from the car etc. Is there a big risk of the clot travelling still 3
weeks later and has anyone else had a dvt which travelled weeks later? Sorry
for the rant, ella

Does anyone have any tips on how to lose the weight I've gained on coumadin ?
?
After my dvt (x2) diagnosis August 09 I initially lost around 18 lbs due to
anxiety/loss of appetite/ rapid heart rate etc, but slowly since I started feeling
better about 6 months ago , it had crept back on & I cannot lose it.
I joined the gym at work & go 5 out of 7 days, cut down on portions, eat healthy
etc, but can't shift it. I'm only 5ft tall & weigh 162 lbs now & was at 154 for the
longest time . Grrrrrrrr :-(

Interv Rad Process/Swelling

I am a 42 yr old male. Had clot from ankle past stomach. Initially, I was advised
to take Coumadin and let body absorb the clot. Seen a vascular specialist in
week two and they advised interventional radiology procedure which was
completed in a successful manner (some clots remain). I am three weeks out
from interventional radiology procedure. Almost all of the pain is gone with only
minor fatigue which seems to get better every day. Minor swelling below the
knee with more moderated swelling above the knee. The swelling does seem to
be improving on a daily basis. Is the swelling a result of the procedure,
angioplasty, or pts? I wear a waist high compression stocking and will likely be
on Coumadin for 6 months to a year. Will the swelling likely disappear? The pain
is virtually gone with only minor fatigue. Thank you

Warfarin and Surgery

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of surgery after being on wafarin?

I had my first clot in April 2010, warfarin for six months, diagnosed with factor II, a year off warfarin and fine, then second clot in Nov 2011 and now on warfarin for life. I've been waiting for bowel surgery for the last year or so, its not an urgent operation but i really want them to do it as will make my life a lot better and until the second DVT, the surgeon was well up for it.

I know i have to come off the warfarin for five days before surgery, and get on clexane immediately afterwards, but my surgeon is a bit worried and has written to the Haematologist for advice. She's just written to me saying she's replied to him, but wants to see me. Got an appointment with her for 29th March. Am terrified she's going to say - don't do it!!

I know there is a clot risk with any deep pelvic surgery - but does anyone know - is the risk during surgery or is it from being immobile afterwards?

hello, so I have not had any real discomfort in my leg since diagnosisg..honestly I was really surprised I had a DVT from the back of my knee down to my ankle, i really only had some on/off swelling

anyway i have been theraputic on coumadin for 2 months and yesterday decided to go for a 5.5 mile walk some of which was up a hill.
i needed to take a cab home because my calf felt so sore to walk on !

when does that go away? I am really dissapointed that it was so uncomfortable. I was hoping it was getting better.

anyone else have this experience?

Have taken Lovenox injection into my own hands

I think my INR must have been low. Been alternating between 4's and 5's, but I now
have a 3rd DVT in the same calf. The 2nd DVT occurred immediately after I went off
Warfarin per my hematologist. After that he told me I'd be on Warfarin for life. My calf
is HUGE today. I 1st noticed it Saturday afternoon. Sometimes you just have to take
things into your own hands. I did not want to wait until tomorrow to get an ultrasound
and see if I have a DVT because these things move so rapidly the amount of damage
that could occur in my leg could be double the current damage by tomorrow. So I took
an emergency prescription my hematologist gave me and got absolutely fucked by big
pharma once again for a total of $800++ for 5 days of injections. The son-of-a-
bitches that charge people this much money and take advantage of people that are
afraid for their lives - I HOPE THEY ALL FUCKING DIE IN A HORRID DEATH! Hopefully
this will knock the clot back down and I think ... read more

Army PEB results for Factor 5 Leiden DVT

I received the results from the PEB board on 13 May. Friday the 13th just ruined me. Results say 0% disabilty with 103,000 severance pay. They say it wasnt service aggravated. I guess a desk job according to them or had been a truck driver in the Army and served in Iraq cramped up in Military vehicles the whole time over there cant provoke blood clots.Screw that. Im going to Jag on the 23rd to fight for the COAD, or at least 30% to retire. I will see what JAG suggests.
Dont think they will look at your NCOER's or letters of recommendation at the PEB board because they apparently didnt care what mine said and how good they are. I have an imcompetent clinic here on Ft Eustis that took me off the coumadin with an elevated D-Dimmer. Portsmouth Naval Hospital couldnt believe they took me off of it, which caused me to have the second DVT and Pulmonary Embolism. Also there has been some relevance to Anthrax shots and military getting clots. Do some research. If I was to take the sever... read more

Hi all. I recently posted to say that I was diagnosed
with a blood clot in my left leg. From groin to thigh I
think. I'm 29 weeks pregnant and I'm injecting with
heparin every day and have bought specially fitted
compression tights also. The clot was diagnosed just
over two weeks ago and I have not been able to
return to work as I can barely walk. My concern is
that the pain seemed to be easing a good bit last
week but for the past few nights I've been in
constant pain again and now it is even more painful
to try and walk. My doctors have told me that it just
takes time but I'm worried that I won't be back up on
my feet for months. Has anyone had similar
experiences and is it true that sometimes the pain
gets worse before it gets better? The whole thing is
really worrying and upsetting me and I find myself
crying a lot this week. Anyone who has anything to
share, please do. Brenda x

Hello out there. Ive explained my situation before on this site but to review very briefly; I have dvt's in my ivc and both femerol/illiac veins. The illiac veind round my groin is almost occlusive and Im still in tremdous pain there. Its been 2 years with 3 failed surgerys to get stents in. Im actually getting a second opinion this month. I see two hemotologists this month in different hospitals back to back the 20th and 21st of this month. These guys are the best...trust me. Theve tested me for everything and all has come back, which is great but confusing as well. My question to yall is, is there anything specific I should be asking these Dr's while I have them at my disposal. Anything would be helpful. Hemotoligists are one step away from vascular durgeons, which I really waana see. I see my Duke surgeon this month and a surgeon at the other hospital hopfeully this month. Ive talked to him thru email and he seems interested in my case. No cause for clotting that is now hardene... read more

Hi there, I a 28 year old female who devolped a clot in a su
perficial vein in my thigh, close to the deep vein junction by my groin. I was 10 days post -op after haveing a c-section, and noticed a red welt on my upper thigh approx 10cm x 5cm, was warm and i had a raised temp. So went to the ER...they scanned my leg, and confimed a clot.
I am injecting myself with Clexane 150mg once daily for 6 weeks. Then i go off alll meds, and 10 days later i have bloods done to recheck my "Lupus Anticoagulant, Protein S and Protein C" levels....

Am kinda nervous about going off the meds as am scared there will be a risk of a further clot occouring and going into a DV. Should i be concerned as clot only in superficial vein, and can i trust the drug to have done the job of dissolving all of the clot ?
And what are they testing for in these next bloods ??

Calf, thigh and lung clots

A week ago I went to the ED and was diagnosed with a left calf DVTs and medial left thigh DVT with multiple PEs in both lungs (CT scan). I am 43 years old with no real medical issues and was very active prior: running, biking, soccer.
Prior to going to the ED I had some shortness of breath for a few weeks which was actually worst a few weeks ago mainly with activity. I had also had quite a bit of swelling in the left calf.
For a couple of years before this I had very minor swelling in the left calf (a feeling of fullness) so when I got the increased swelling as I wasn't as alarmed as if it were completely new.
I spent 5 days in the hospital and was discharged with no specific restrictions other than to avoid running for 3 weeks. they were unable to determine a reason for the clot. However the day I left the hospital my calf started to hurt more and it is difficult to walk. The calf is still quite swollen, hard and discolored. I am concerned my physician ( an internist who was ... read more

Warfarin and Calcification of Arteria

Hi everybody,
After a PE and diagnosed FV and FII disorders, I am on warfarin/coumadine
lifetime. I am 24, and reading many research articles on the theme, it seems that
although being efficient in preventing clots, a long warfarin therapy can cause
calcification of arteria and valves, because it blocks the effect of vitamin K2 on
the regulation of calcium, eventually leading to rigid blood vessels, which can
easily rapture. I understand that if you are at your 50s or 60s, than the clottless
life for 20 years is better than the damage caused by warfarin over that period.
But what if you are at your 20s. I dont want to die of arterial rapture, heart valve
failure, atherosclerosis or intracranial bleeding because of calcificated vessels as
well... Are there people in this forum who have taken warfarin for longer than 10
years and do you guys have calcification problems? Considering that I also have
a slightly high blood preasure and mitral valve prolapse, should... read more

Is this PTS?

I am 3 months post diagnosis, DVT knee to groin. I wear knee high stockings
religiously, pain has subsided, and I am walking alot and getting exercise BUT- I
have a new problem and want to know if it is PTS. When I sit for more than 10
minutes, the back of the thigh of the affected leg starts tingling/ burning and has
overall discomfort. It almost feels s little numb. It is getting worse everyday and
driving me crazy. I can now only sit for 10 minutes then have to get up. If I walk
around it stops hurting. Is this PTS? I don't want to go to the doctor for every
little twinge mostly because the doctors really don't know what to say so they
order another ultrasound.
I am trying every position, leg height, chair cushion, etc possible- to no avail.
Anyone have this problem?
