One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

GP refusing to monitor INR...don't feel well

Hello, Sorry this is a bit long, but the background is relevant, honestly! I am a 46yr old woman, mum of 4, pretty active and had a complete rupture of my Achilles tendon on 1/1/12, being treated with a plaster cast (not offered surgery...as Im not a professional sportsman!) and suffered an increase in pain and swelling over the following week, diagnosed as a suspected DVT.

Started on Clexane while I waited for an ultrasound (4 days later) - confirmed multiple small clots in my calf. I then went back to A&E two days later as I had severe chest pain, shortness of breath, racing pulse and a horrible panicky feeling. As it had subsided by the time I got there, the doc reckoned it wasn't anything to do with the clot....or it might have been, but had solved itself.

Started on Warfarin (10, 10, 5) then INR done on the 4th day with a finger prick test and meter by a nurse. Message from GP was to take 4mg per day and go back in 11 days time. I rang to query this, and said all the inf... read more

Question about ultrasound and p/e

Is it possible if I thought I have had a dvt for a long time and am now finally
getting a Doppler to still diagnose it? I mean if it has already "passed"? Is it
possible to have a mild one? My leg still hurts but I heard they always end up with
a p/e, my chest feels a bit tight now but I think it might be due to north worrying
about it.

Red Bull: it promises energy, but doesn't mention sticky blood...

Sunday, 17 August 2008

Australian researchers have found that the sugar-free version of Red Bull may increase the danger of blood clots, and creates "sticky" blood, raising the risk of heart attack or stroke. How this affects the sales of Red Bull last year 3.5 billion cans were sold in 143 countries is yet to be seen.

I dread going to bed as every night is the same.I have aches and pains in both legs from the knee down. Had a DVT behind knee also Bakers cyst and meniscular tear. Fluid now in both knees! Nothing can be done till off Warfarin which is another month I thought but doc says I have to be on it for 6 months now so got a bit to go yet!.I have had this since December and went to doc to see if I could get stronger painkillers than paracemamols. He gave me Tramadol but this made me feel worse and so came off it and got shivers and shakes for a few days after. I feel a bit in despair as I am exhausted with lack of sleep. Anyone else not able to sleep cause of pain and what medication helped you?

I developed late stage BrCa in 2000 at age 40. After surgery and 1 1/2 yrs of
chemo and radiation I noticed a puffy green spot where my neck and clavical
meet. I went straight to ER and found to have 4 DVTs in the internal vein of my
neck and braichael (sp?) System. Hospitalized immediately under our university
hospital's chief vascular surgeon. I was on IV port-a-cath continual heperin
infusion and lovelox injections in my stomach twice daily with coumadin
started after 10 days...left the hospital when it was considered therapeutic
between 2.5-3.0. I continued seeing my Vascular Surgeon even through a PE
that, luckily, was small enough to pass thru the lung, bursting and leaving a VQ
trail, some risidual pain and worry. At the hospital they failed to give me the
'do's and don'ts' of diet, only stating to cut out all Vitamin K. A couple of years
ago, I swiched, under the care of my primary doc, from Coumadin to Warfin. My
PTs and INRs started going very high(... read more

Potential dvt

Is it possible to have dvt for months? I am a 26 year old male, around 150lbs and
5'9. I have been having calf pain which occasionally radiates into my shin and
behind my knee. It is a dull pain that just aches and then shoots randomly. I have
seen a doctor who said it was a calf pull, I don't have any swelling or redness in
the area. It is really painful though and doesn't seem to be getting better. I have
been googling the symptoms and freaked myself about it.

Need advice fast. My son just hit a lacrosse ball into my calf of the DVT leg. Two
clots in that leg since Nov 2011. I have iced the leg and I have it raised. Still on
Coumadin so big time bruising is starting. Should I go to urgent care?

I have a DVT from the back of the knee to the ankle on one leg. I learned about this after having just a bit of consistent swelling on the foot and ankle, no pain. I did lovenox shots 2x a day for 2 weeks while taking coumadin and now just coumadin because the INR has remained in range. it has been 1 month. i try not to bend my knees if i wake up and my leg is bent i immediatley stretch it out but not TOO much stretching so i don't dislodge anything! I want to go for a hike and work out my legs at the gym but i am told not yet.. ok i can wait. but then I think about working out and if the clot didn't dissolve then "what if" i dislodge this old stiff clot that is "suppose" to be stuck to the wall...
I have read people say its ok to start doing the same activity in 3-6months that they used to but in the same breath say "just be careful" then they also say you are likely to get another

OMG!! OMG!!!

DVT leg cold and cramping at night

Hi all, I am looking for ideas or experiences of dealing with a cold, cramping leg at
night. For the past few nights my dvt ridden leg (clots over a number of years in calf,
behind knee and in thigh) has been getting cold and cramping at times which has
totally messed up my sleeping. This is new and I am wondering if some pains and
aching in the leg a week or so ago were signs of a new clot, but as I am on tons of
warfarin anyway (INR 3-4) there is nothing that could be done even if I had another
clot, so I am trying to sort out dealing with the night coldness and pain. I do not wear
a compression stocking at night as it is just such a relief to take it off after a day
with it on. Today I bought some running tights (10.99 on Sports Direct.Com sale)
which may make a real difference I hope, as pjs are really uncomfortable and always
"riding" up. But I wondered if anyone had any other ideas as to how to keep the leg
warmer at night - someone suggested a hot water... read more

How long do these take to heal?

My husband was diagnosed with a massive DVT 1 month ago. It runs from his ankle to his upper thigh. Today he had his 1st scan since being diagnosed and there is basically no change. He's had 25 days worth of Lovenox (twice a day), and more and more coumaden, he is now at 17mg a day, and he finally reached the 'right' INR level about a week ago. How long is this going to go on for? He is tall, 6'5", so the clot it's self is extra long like his legs! Can anyone give me any idea on how long it's going to take to clear them up?

I hit my calf on a chair last week and got a pretty big hematoma, about the size of my whole hand. Now there is a quarter size lump that is tender to the touch. Could this be a clot and should I be concerned that it might travel?

Can old DVT's clot up again?

Hey guys, I had a question that maybe you would be able to answer. I had a DVT in my leg about 6 months ago, took 6 months of warfarin, and stopped taking it about 20 days ago. About 5 days ago the same leg that had the dvt started to get really sore and tender, just like the first time. I want to note that I had no pain while I was on the warfarin. I contacted the Doc and he had an Ultra Sound on the leg done yesterday and said the old clot was still there, no new clots had formed. The question I have is do you know if an old clot can act like a new one and continue to clot and get bigger? I wonder what is the cause of pain. The doc said I could go back on Warfarin if that would make me feel safer, but I really don't want to. Any advice on the situation, thanks.

Chinese herbal treatment for stasis dermatitis

Has anyone tried TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) for stasis dermatitis? I live in China and thought I would give it a try. I went to the doctor yesterday and he took my pulse in both wrists and could tell which leg I have the blood clot. He wrote out a formula of about ten herbs, which were put in a net bag and boiled for two hours. This concoction was then divided out into 21 bags. I am to drink three bags a day for a week and then get another batch.

Has anyone else used this treatment?

I'll keep you posted as to what happens.

Tingling in DVT leg

I have had some tingling/strange sensations in the back of my thigh of the DVT
leg (clot knee to groin). It doesn't hurt, just an odd feeling. I have increased my
exercise considerably (added yoga and tennis) and thought maybe this was the
issue but it is persistent and makes sitting at my desk for any length of time
uncomfortable. Can it be radiating from my back/rear end? I have been sitting
quite a bit.

When can I go back to work?

I have just been released from the Hospital for having a blood clot in my right lung. I was hospitalized for 6 days and now on coumedan for six months. I had several different Doctors while in the hospital and I now realize that not one of them mentioned anything to me as to when I can return to work. I know, I should have asked, but I was still trying to absorb the reality of what just happened to me. I am 49, in great health prior to this, and am a Bookkeeper.
Is there a time frame that I should stay home to recover, or can I go back to work immediately?
