DVT deep vein thrombosis forum

One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

purple toe syndrome

After PE, had to go off warfarin 2 weeks ago because of purple toe syndrome - coloration, some tenderness and tingling in both feet. Now on Fondaparinux. No change in purple toe symptoms yet. Has anyone experienced this and can indicate how long (if ever) the purple toe symptoms stayed around after stopping warfarin? Literature says somewhere between a few weeks and lifetime.
Did anyone get this on a heparin drug like Fondaparinux (Arixtra)?
Thanks much.

2 month ultrasound- no change:(

I have recently had an ultrasound check the status of DVT. Been 2 months of
warfarin, and was initially clotted from behind knee to femoral. New ultrasound
shows no change. Their is NO blood flow in deep vein from knee to just below
groin. I am disappointed with these results of course. Is this an indication that
the clot may never dissolve? Is it harder to dissolve the older it gets? Dr. doesn't
seem concerned, Says it takes time but it just doesn't seem right to have no
improvement. Has anyone had such a large clot that actually dissolves? Are there
any other options people have tried? Any info would be appreciated.

Clotting Mutations

I just came across this forum and am so glad to see that I am not alone! I was recently diagnosed with a clotting disorder after months of dealing with a DVT and PE. I thought I knew all about bleeding disorders, but clotting disorders were new to me. I have already been on Coumadin for 6 months and Dr says 6 more months will be needed. So, my question...does having this factor 2 disorder mean that Coumadin might be needed forever? I am afraid to stop the Coumadin in 6 months for fear of developing a new DVT or new PE. But at the same time, I want off of this. Does anyone else suffer from factor 2?

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum as I was only diagnosed with my first DVT two days ago, so am trying to find out all I can at the moment! I had a pretty bad ache in my calf for three weeks, and I just assumed it was restless legs syndrome as it really helped the pain to get up and walk and jog around. Finally went to my GP on Friday and because I'm on the contraceptive pill he sent me for a scan, even though I'm only 28 so he wasn't hugely worried. The scan showed a DVT in my peroneal vein. So I spent the day in hospital having all sorts of tests.
The plan is that I'll be going into hospital every day to get my INR tested, and to have clexane injections until my INR reaches 2.5. I'll also be taking warfarin for 6 weeks.
Six weeks doesn't seem very long compared to everything else I've read about people being put on it for months - has anyone else been put on it for only 6 weeks?
Told my mother about it all today and she wasn't at all surprised and revealed that I actually ha... read more

Breakthrough pain

Hello out there to all who suffer from DVT's. I posted a paragraph about pain last week. Well, I am frustrated to no end. I cannot afford specialty surgery for my chronic DVT's in my illiac veins and my IVC. I am in a tremendous amount of pain. I mean, I always am but the last 2 weeks have been awful. I went to my ER and they didn't even bother to scan me. They said I've had too many CT scans in the past year which I can understand. They say a ultrasound is pointless at this point cause it would be inconclusive and even if I have new clotting, I'm already on a high dose of Warfarin so they cant do anything else. What if this extreme pain is new clotting? How about an MRV? Seem to work in the past and no radiation. I guess at this point it dosent really matter. My local pain clinic controls my pain. I saw the Dr last Friday and he raised me to 40mg of Methadona a day. He will not prescribe anything for breakthrough pain cause he says thats how addiction starts, which I understand.... read more

Is this crucial for recovery? Or is it only needed if you have severe swelling etc?

Hi to you all, and a somewhat belated Happy New Year!
I was just wondering if any of you have had to leave your job because of your dvt/pts? The dvt behind my right knee was diagnosed exactly 2 years ago and, although the clot has totally dispersed with no valve damage (I will, however, be a warfarin lifer), I still have extensive pain in the affected leg (from my groin to calf) whenever I sit still for too long. Unfortunately, I spend much of my working life behind the wheel of my car, so my leg is almost immobile for long periods of time- although I try to take regular breaks, it only helps a little. And when I am in the office, I spend most of my time at my desk using the laptop.Same problem.
My company have, to put it bluntly, been rubbish in trying to accommodate my condition and have declined every suggestion put to them eg working from home one day per week so I can totally rest my leg, or supply me with an automatice car with either a left-footed control or with 'paddles' o... read more

Does anyone have any information on pregnancy with Factor II? I was just diagnosed with the Factor II disorder and I am in my late 20's (with a history of a four foot long clot and 2 PE's this past summer). I was excited to have children, but this disorder has me extremely scared about becoming pregnant. I have been researching this in my downtime, but I have not found much information about Factor II and pregnancy. Help?

Deep vein pain 2 months post DVT

Hey everyone,

I know there was a post not that long ago on this topic, as someone
called it feeling clotty, lol, but I describe it as deep vein pain. Im
post DVT 2 months next week, and have been wearing compression
stockings for about a month and a half ankle to thigh 30-40mg.
They helped me so much, and are part of the reason I can walk again :)
over the last week or so, I have been getting pain in my left leg,
shots of pain, and it feels deep in my leg, I guess vein pain is
closer to the feeling. It wasn't there before, and I think part of it
must be from being too active, as I know i might not be resting my leg
as much as I should. BUT question is there any other reason this might
happen?

Could it mean clot absorbing, or blood flow really messed up and not
working...I see a vascular surgeon very soon, and am hoping to get a
TPA or the use of blood clotting buster here in canada. It's not easy
getting help, but I'm pretty dertermined. Any help at al... read more

New To DVT's just diagnosed

I am 36 yrs young & live in North GA. On 1/1/12 I was diagnosed with DVT. I have
an "old" clot in my inferior Vena Cava that goes from very close to my heart to my
left arenial vein to my left common iliac vein to my deep femoral vein. I had
surgery on the 1/2/12 where they tried to "roto-root" my clots to bust them up.
Then they had a "clot busting" drug run over night with a machine (EKOS) that
sent waves to my clots. Then on 1/3/12 they went back in and placed 3 stents
from left common iliac vein to my deep femoral vein. Now they say there is no
blood flow through my stents & surgery is scheduled for 1/18/12. My pain is
AWFUL! I can't use my left leg & I cry all the time. Will this get better? I'm afraid I
will lose my leg!

H,

I've been on warfarn since 2010 and have developed a purple-ish coloured area on my skin about 6 months ago. It's been scanned and biopsied, but no-one seems to know what has caused it. I've been using steroid cream from my doctor, but it doesn't seem to want to go.

Has anyone else had any similar experience? I'll be on warfarin for life and just wonder if it might be related.

Thanks

Feeling Clots All Over-Please Help!

Hi, I have posted a few topics and have been given advice that possibly saved my life so here is the latest. It started when I donated blood and got a superficial cephalic clot that traveled into the subclavian and became a DVT. I was hospitalized and given Heparin, Lovenox and placed on Coumadin. My INR is around 2.5. I continue to clot. My LSV is clotted from my knee to ankle in my left leg. I can feel more clotting in my right leg and both arms. I saw a hematologist today who ordered lots of blood work but I will not get the results until next Thursday. The pain is excrutiating and today I had a melt down after the lab tech stuck me 3 times because my blood was so thick it stopped as she was trying to fill up 11 tubes. I didn't even need a band aid when she released the needle. Why is my blood so thick on Coumadin. This all started last month so I am new to this mess of clotting. Please offer any and all advice and experiences because I am afraid that I am going to end up with an... read more

DVT leg cold and cramping at night

Hi all, I am looking for ideas or experiences of dealing with a cold, cramping leg at
night. For the past few nights my dvt ridden leg (clots over a number of years in calf,
behind knee and in thigh) has been getting cold and cramping at times which has
totally messed up my sleeping. This is new and I am wondering if some pains and
aching in the leg a week or so ago were signs of a new clot, but as I am on tons of
warfarin anyway (INR 3-4) there is nothing that could be done even if I had another
clot, so I am trying to sort out dealing with the night coldness and pain. I do not wear
a compression stocking at night as it is just such a relief to take it off after a day
with it on. Today I bought some running tights (10.99 on Sports Direct.Com sale)
which may make a real difference I hope, as pjs are really uncomfortable and always
"riding" up. But I wondered if anyone had any other ideas as to how to keep the leg
warmer at night - someone suggested a hot water... read more
