One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Removing/Stripping G.Saphenous Vein

Hi all,
I was just wondering who has had thaie greater saphenous vein stripped or removed? What were your symptoms before having the proceedure? did they improve after? how long was your recovery? what was surgery like?

I just saw a vascular surgeon, and he's told me he can do that proceedure, but can't guarantee that it will help me. I have grade 4 reflux in all areas of my greater saphenous vein, and it's causing reflux in my deep veins as well. I had read in a few medical journals (recent ones - published in the past 3 years) that removing the Greater Saphenous can help reduce deep vein reflux.

My leg has a swelling that is a good 2 inches larger than my 'good' leg (although the surgeon didn't take notice of it), and I get burning and shooting pains down my bad calf, and I'm hoping to hear from someone who has had this done, and if you found it helped or not.

Part of the reason I am hesitating, is because I already have nerve damage in the area of the leg (crush ... read more

Has anyone in the UK had this done? I had a DVT last year and am still having some problems. I've seen literature from the US which is positive, but can't see anything from the UK.

I was diagnosed with DVT's in both of my legs and my IVC two years ago. The past two years have changed my life. Not only are all of the clots still present, they are all scarring and scabbed now. The probability of them improving is nil. I have my INR checked bi-weekly or monthly. I have had a venogram and most recently in Nov of last year, my surgeon tried to place a stent in both legs to improve blood flow. He could not get the veins open enough to place the stents. I have been to the ED an odd 20-25 times in the past 2 years because of pain. I have had countless ultrasounds, ct scans, and mri's, ans no change...ever. The pain is my biggest concern. It's always about 6 out of 10 but every once in awhile it will stay at 8 out of 10. The last 2 weeks have been such a time. I have not been to the ED yet, being stubborn. However, I am going within the next hour or so. I go to the pain clinic and my Dr has me on 30mg of methadone a day. It really helps a lot because without it, I c... read more

I am 22 years old and began clotting a month before my 21st birthday in October of 2009. I havae had the normal clotting disorder tests ran and all came back negative. Today I had several more tests done, Factor VIII activity, Fibrinogen, FacrorXI activity, Factor IX activity and Plasminogen activity. The clot I have now is in my popliteal vein in my left leg. I do not respond well to coumadin therapy so I am taking lovenox every night. I was an otherwise healthly individual before September of 2009. The only "illness" if it could be called that is my monthly migraines. Has anyone experienced anything like this, out of the blew clots? What disorder if any was found?

Arm DVT now extremem calf pain

Hi,
I developed a superficial clot in my left Cephalic vein after donating blood. After 3 weeks of hospitals ignoring my pain my entire vein became occluded and the clot traveled into my subcalvian vein making it a dvt at that point. I was only given a 12 hour dose of Heparin, 3 Lovenox shots and released with 2.5mg of Warafin a day. My INR ranges in between 2.5 and 3. It has now been 3 weeks and I am having an excruiating pain behind my knee and in my calf. I can not put any pressure on my left foot. I have a low grade fever but no swelling. Can an upper extremity clot move into my leg or can a new clot develop while on Warafin. I have not done anything to pull a muscle. My doctor said it is impossible and if I see swelling or have chest pains to call him. I am scared and need advice since none of the health care professionals that I have seen take me serious. Thanks!

My wife had an emergency c-section. She fainted at home three weeks after the birth. She had gone in to full renal failure. It was discovered that she had developed a massive inferior vena cava thrombosis following the c-section(?) and it very nearly killed her. Following treatment for the thrombosis she bleed heavily into her thigh muscle. As a result she has been left disabled.

I am very unsure about what action we can take. It is a very distressing time

Can you get 2nd clot while on heparin

Hi,
Got confirmed dvt below knee on left leg on Friday. Hospital immediately put me
on hep & warf.
Today I'm getting a similar pain in my right leg (top of calf behind knee). Feels like
a pulled muscle, and I'm hoping it is, as I'm limping around due to pain from 1st
dvt.
Can you get a 2nd clot while on hep & warf. My inr tested yesterday was only 1.5

Should I go a&e, or will they just tell me I'm already on the right medication? Is
there anything they can do?
Got another appointment in a few days to check inr, so wondering whether to wait
till then.

Headache- when to see a doctor

I have been therapeutic for almost a month, DVT/PE. I have been getting
headaches on and off since starting the warfarin, just figured it is an unpleasant
side effect. I have had a headache for the last 24 hours and the top/ right side of
my scalp is very tender like I bumped it(but I didn't). Headache is on the right
side, hurts to concentrate on reading etc, and I am feeling nauseous. Don't want
to be paranoid, but when should I be worried that a headache is not just a
headache.

I just came across this forum and am so glad to see that I am not alone! I was recently diagnosed with a clotting disorder after months of dealing with a DVT and PE. I thought I knew all about bleeding disorders, but clotting disorders were new to me. I have already been on Coumadin for 6 months and Dr says 6 more months will be needed. So, my question...does having this factor 2 disorder mean that Coumadin might be needed forever? I am afraid to stop the Coumadin in 6 months for fear of developing a new DVT or new PE. But at the same time, I want off of this. Does anyone else suffer from factor 2?

Favoring other leg and pain

Okay, so I have come to the conclusion that DVT's make you fearful...
I hate to go to the hospital thinking I have problems now in other leg
(left one DVT thigh to pelvis), and over the last little while I've
had minor twinges, etc in right leg. I have put it off as favoring my
right leg as the left one has been swollen since november....now today
it's hurting enough so that I can really notice it. Hard to explain
but dull pain...scared that it's another clot but not wanting to seem
crazy either...so question is anyone who has had clot where really
swollen, and took weeks to walk again, did you get pain in your other
leg due to it....or should I be scared...gaaaaah I hate going through
this all the time...

I have twice in hospital with what doctors thought was a clot on lung, but by the time blood tests, xrays were done they said it may of been so small that it had dissolved. I am on Warfarin for the rest of my life as I have had the blood test (cant remember name) that shows my blood clots easily. My father died of a blood clot to the heart many years ago. My left leg is so swollen and has been for over a year..I wear support stocking at time, I have had ultrasound and they said no clot, though about 5 years ago I have a superficial clot. Why is my leg hurting and so swollen? What could be the answer? are ultrasounds always correct? Thankyou

Hi all.
I have been searching for months for a forum or support group in the uk.
I have not been able to find much out there. I was diagnosed in oct with a very
large dvt in my thigh, spreading from below my knee to grion, caused by HRT.
This went un-diagnosed for 9 months even after a raised d-dimmer and scan. A
flight dislodged part of the clot and luckily for me i collapsed At work (I Am a
nurse) and had a confirmed diagnosis very quickly.
Since discharge from hospital I have seen my dr once and basically told it will
probably disperse but it may take about 2 years, take my warfarin and wear a
compressing stocking. As a qualified nurse i think they presume I'm clued up.. I'm
not! I have great access to literature and doctors but have no one to ask for
practical advice or further treatment options or what I can and can't do.
I have just returned to light clinical duties, but I'm struggling with confidence,
pain, swelling and fear.. My inr levels are all ov... read more

Pain in leg better after day 2 of treatment.

Hello all. I've recently been diagnosed with dvt. The clot was found at the top of my left leg. I am currently on day two of warfarin and day three of Lovenox injections. The pain in my hip area has already started to subside and my mobility is much improved. I noticed that I have a small pain under my bellybutton when I cough or sneeze. Could this mean that the clot has moved?? Am I just being paranoid?
I go for bloodtests tomorrow to determine if I need to continue with the Lovenox and plan on asking the doctor in the ER (who is my regular doctor and first diagnosed the dvt) about this but to be honest I feel like I've been in a whirlwind of tests and treatments and no one is telling me anything. I haven't been given any instruction to rest or anything, aside from not to change my regular diet and that I'll probably bruise easier.

Hello all,I am 21 and i was just diagnosed with DVT a few days ago. I started having minor pain 2 weeks ago but it went away. Then just before Christmas the pain got more intense then i eventually went to the hospital. I have been on enoxaparin and warifin for a few days now. I cannot walk that well due to the clot being in my right calf, and i spend most of my day in a chair with my leg propped up. I was wondering how long before the swelling and pain goes down I need to get back to work asap and college starts back up soon so i have to walk to my classes. How long did it take for the Pressure, swelling and pain to dissipate for you?
