One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

I'm almost 2 years post-ideopathic DVT. Did 6 months on coumadin, have experienced a second superficial clot in the same leg (the 1st one was 7 years prior to the DVT). I have seen 2 vascular surgeons and a hematologist. I am now experiencing cramping/pain in the other leg. I am sure that it is nothing, but the alternative is always in the back of my mind. I don't really have a question--I just needed to vent because I know that all of you understand this fear!

I occasionally look on this site for answers to my questions but today I wish I hadnt. After reading up on some side effects I am pretty sad.

This is my second DVT without cause in 5 years. My first was ankle to navel treated by warfarin for 12 months and my 2nd to be honest I am not really sure. This time it is being treated by Clexane 80mg per day due to the fact I was pregnant. I miscarriage after 8 weeks which devastated me. I am being pushed to go back on warfarin now, but am terrified as I feel i will never had children if i do.

I have picked up smoking yet again, which i know is wrong and bad but am terribly miserable since my miscarriage. I am constantly tired, light headed and aching legs. I get dizzy and feel as if I am going to pass out and have lumps on my stomach from my injections. Please know I know smoking is bad, and I dont enjoy it. I am just falling apart and not coping..

I prefer clexane because I feel in control this time and like I am able to tre... read more

pain in groin

I had 3 clots in my right leg plus p.e. in my lungs in 3/11. I got treated for
bronchitis for 3 weeks for shortness of breath till my calf blew up & I went to
ER. Everything went well with treatment until a couple months ago. My groin
started hurting & now pain is in front thigh. Upon standing, I can barely walk.
After a little bit, it gets better but still slight pain. My Dr says it's not related to
clots but I'm thinking it has to be since there was a clot right there. Is this
normal after 9 months on coumadin or should I go see another doctor?

DVT 8 months ago and still not recovered.

Getting frustrated and worried that a full recovery may not be in my future. I read that up to 40% of folks with DVT may experience post thrombolitic syndrom. I'm hoping I'll have improvement and looking for some encouraging testimonials if they're out there. In April I had a significant DVT in the left superficial femoral vein. Lovinox, then coumadin (and still on), and 3 dopplers later, and I still have residual clot. No clotting disorder thank goodness. This clot was provoked by air travel(though only a 4.5 hour trip) and probably the 7 day use of a birth control pill to delay a period since we were vacationing (very stupid move on my part for that one). I'm 49, overweight, but otherwise very healthy. I use the compression pantyhose off and on during the course of recovery particularly when leg is swelling but regardless of custom fit, they are uncomfortable and were particularly warm especially during the summer recovery months. Now I'm beating myself up for not being more cons... read more

How long does it take DVT swelling to go down

I developed a DVT in September after I sustained some serious knee
damage which left me very immobile. Despite me seeing the doctors
about it a number of times it wasn't diagnosed until I had a PE, about
4 weeks after the leg swelling started. They did a dopler scan and
said there was a clot behind my knee and started me on warfarin which
has delayed my surgery to fix the original knee injury. It is still
red and swollen (especially my foot) if I don't wear a support
stocking and the nurse at the DVT clinic said it would probably always
be a bad leg but that she wouldn't do a repeat scan. What I want to
know is whether it is likely to improve at all now or whether it will
be like this forever. Might it improve a little as the months
continue? I am hoping that once my knee is unlocked, that might help
but I can't get any information from anyone.

I was diagnosed with this recently, which is DVT in a vein in the brain after long international flight. Scariest time in my life and very glad I'm still here. It seems quite rare, has anyone else had this? Is it likely you will get another DVT from flying etc?

Symptoms after discontinuing Pradaxa

After stopped taking Pradaxa, I started getting heartburn. Sounds weird but it's
true. When i first started Pradaxa, I had the common symptoms of heartburn.
Then, I found out that if you ate a large meal when taking your daily doses, the
heartburn does not happen.

However, the very day when I stopped taking it, the heartburn returned.

My theory is that the stomach acids are totally unbalanced when i was taking
Pradaxa.

Has anyone else here experience the same thing?

symptoms after PE

I had a severe bilateral saddle PE on September 5th and received TPA (tissue plasminogen activator) in the hospital in order to save my life. It is coming up on four months past the event and I still feel as if my breathing and lung capacity has not completely returned to what it was prior to the PE. The first eight weeks or so after coming home from the hospital, I could not fully expand my lungs and fill them with air to the point where I felt that I had enough oxygen. I could only take the deepest breathes when in a state of complete relaxation and breathed in slowly. Of course my anxiety level was very high and to control that and make breathing any easier I started low dose lorazepam. Even though I have improved somewhat, there are still many days where I can't seem to draw a full breath and am always taking breaths through my mouth and sighing a lot. I also have a heavy or congested sensation on my chest at times, which is hard to describe. The breathing trouble now is n... read more

How quickly should Coumadin work

I was diagnosed with DVT in left leg on Oct. 30, started on Coumadin immediately, with Lovenox injections for one week. Had an ultrasound yesterday and the doctor says not much has changed with the clot. It has been 6 weeks and he expected more change. Going back in another week for an ultrasound and if still no change I'll be doing the injections again. My question to the group is what have others experienced regarding how quickly their clots have dissolved while on Coumadin.

I'm so happy to have found this forum. Great information and support!

Discontinuing Warfarin after year

I am 24 years old. I was diagnosed with a DVT in my left calf March 2011 after taking a popular birth control medication for years. I have been taking Warfarin since that time, but have recently experienced some bleeding problems that prompted my doctor to advise discontinuing medication. I had a doplar scan a few months ago, and they said it was almost clear (there was some residue from the clot, but it was clearly dissipating). I am scheduled for another scan next month to check to see if the clot is completely gone. In the mean time, besides experiencing a lot of fear that every ache and pain is another clot, I have been waking up in the night with fairly severe dizziness. Has anyone experienced any of this?

I had a DVT in axillary and subclavian the end of October. I am also a stage IIIC melanoma patient. My pet scan cam back ok,
A couple weeks ago I could not move my neck at all. I went back to the ER. At first they thought my blood may have been to thin but my INR was within normal range, Did an x-ray of the neck and also a CT. The clot was still there as expected.
I still have a lot of pain in my shoulder and upper arm area. Also the back of my neck. It sometimes moves from the left side across to the right. Some days are better than others but it gets pretty miserable. Anyone else with a lot of neck pain.
Thanks!

I had serve leg pain and my leg calf was swollen got sent for an ultrasound ( they
only did part of my calf not where i was having pain)but it came back clear! I just
figured she knew what she was looking!

Pain started to move up the leg and my chest had become really tight so i had
another ultrasound but this came back clear as well

Now my leg is still sore but not as bad but my chest is worse and im getting pains
in my back and shortness of breath!

Is it possible the clot had dislodged thats why the ultrasound came back fine or
would the ultrasound still pick something up

Please help as this the pain and shortness of breath is really worrying me and my
dr wont send me to have a cy scan as the two ultrasounds came back clear

After three months on Warfaren my doctor said I could stop taking it. I had a ultra sound and it showed blood clot was still there but blood flow was going around it. doctor has not given me any advice as to what I could do to avoid another clot. I am having severe hot flashes/night sweats from not being able to take anything for three months for menopause symptoms. Doctor told me I'm not allowed to take anything for the symptoms, herb, natural etc. Anyone out there with advice for me?

I have factor v Leiden and 3 years ago I developed a blood clot in my leg at 6
weeks of pregnancy. Per my last ultrasound the clot is gone. I travel for my job
cross country. My company does not pay for anything but coach. My last trip my
ankle swelled considerably and I had pain that I would categorize as more than
uncomfortable. The swelling is gone but for the past two weeks I have noticed
pain in my leg. My question is because I clotted once am I at a higher risk for air
travel clotting?
