One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

After three months on Warfaren my doctor said I could stop taking it. I had a ultra sound and it showed blood clot was still there but blood flow was going around it. doctor has not given me any advice as to what I could do to avoid another clot. I am having severe hot flashes/night sweats from not being able to take anything for three months for menopause symptoms. Doctor told me I'm not allowed to take anything for the symptoms, herb, natural etc. Anyone out there with advice for me?

Question about my DVT

Hi, i am 27 year old male who was diagnosed with a DVT two years ago. It occured after i had a minor surgery. I initially noticed swelling and tightness in my forearm, I was misdiagnosed twice - once being a muscle injury and the other time an infection. I wasn't happy with the diagnosis so i went to A and E after 1-2 weeks where they eventually realised it was a DVT. I was on a six month course of Warfarin, i gained at least 1-2 stones in weight and i think it has slightly affected my memory - Has anyone else suffered with this? Recently i went on holiday and after a week i noticed that i had pain in my arm and this time my lower leg - the pain was reminiscent to when i had a dvt in 2009, it was found that i developed clots in my arm and leg. I got back to the UK and have been put back on warfarin, the doctors are investigating why this happened but are suspecting it could be the long flight 8-10 hours.
This time i have been feeling extremely low and depressed and can't help but t... read more

Does flying lower INR level

Hi, I had a serious DVT in September and am not regulated yet with my INR levels. They were 3.8, then 3.2 and one month later 2.2. I am on 17.5 mg of warfarin daily and try not to eat ANY green vegetables but I am afraid of having another DVT - I nearly died it was so bad. My GP is only checking my INR level once a month. This past week he checked it for the first time in a month and it had gone down one whole point. I had flown cross country. Someone said flying decreases the reading. Is that true? Thanks for the info. Susan

Lingering effects of PE

I had a bi-lateral PE 6 months ago 3 weeks after giving birth. I had had high blood
pressure which they just told me to lay flat for and not treat with medication/
deliver the baby, who was to term, which turned into preeclampsia. I was in
hospital for a week and luckily only on Coumadin for 13 weeks. My question is
when I am lucky enough to get 5 or more hours sleep I wake with terrible psin in
my lungs and back which is only eased by sitting up or getting up. It's the same
place as as my blood clots and similar pain. My regular doctor says it is nothing
to do with the PE, it's my skeleton and a bad bed. The bed is new and very good
quality but.... I am not a doctor. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? I
don't want to make a fuss and i have other things like the pregnancy which my
influence the diagnosis but I never had this pain before the PE. Am I being fussy/
is this related? Could it just br me.... Any advice greatly appreciated.

Calf hurts more now (post-clot)

I was diagnosed with a DVT in right calf and thigh about 2 months ago.I have been doing pretty well, able to walk, and get around. But in the last few days, my right calf hurts more than it has since I was released from hospital. It is tender to the touch and warm (though it has been warm at some times since the diagnosis). Is this normal for the healing process? If I sit in a chair more than 10 minutes, it starts to burn and feels "full". Walking around alleviates the pain some. I am confused about what to expect while this is getting better. INR is stable between 2-3.
I am wondering if anyone has discovered another clot so soon after the first one, and while anti-coagulated.

Large DVT from upper calf to groin. Lovenox and Coumadin. INR level being regulated before release from hospital, should be 2 more days.I can't find any info as to the risk of PE once INR levels are therapeutic. Does the risk go down? I am very concerned about PE from the time I leave the hospital to when the clot is compeltely broken down. DOctors are vague.

PE after ACL Surgery

I had ACL surgery and had symptoms of DVT (bad leg cramping, pain in the calf)
and explained to my surgeon that my sister had died from a clot so I was extremely
anxious/sensitive to it and was sent to another location get a sonogram. I called
the surgeon's office to get the results and to complain of breathing issues and that
the pain in the leg was still there was told by the office manager that they really
didn't find anything in the sonogram so I figured that I was OK and that I was just
overweight and out of shape from the surgery. However, I was still having
breathing problems a week later and called the office again and was told that they
didn't deal with this and I had to call my gp doctor, which I did and the nurses
immediately sent me to the nearest ER (thank god!). They found 3 PEs, one quite
large, had gotten to my aorta. They also found a PFO so they immediately
scheduled open heart surgery to remove the clots and close the PFO because of

Hi, I developd a DVT and PE, while awaiting a hip replacement, was put on warfarin immediately, and im still on it, I had to have a temporary filter inserted prior to surgery, this was taken out 2 months later, my hip op was great only took an 1hr and I was awake,I now need 2 knee replacements, and have been told that I need another filter inserted, I drea this proceduremore than the knee op, although I have ben told by 2 surgeons the filter is neccesary, but is a risky procedure in itself, I have thought long and hard about not having them done, but Im so in pain and so stiff, I really have not got much quality at the moment.I used to be so active, tennis etc, im 63yrs old and feel 80yrs. anyone else had this. any feedback would be really appreciated, the surgeon said I should have the filter put in and have the surgery 2months apart, so I dont need to have another filter inserted next time around. Thanks

Iv had a dvt and now my doc wants to do a scan for a PE!

I was just wondering what scan would be better to have? Im worried about an
allergic reaction to the dye for a Ct scan as my mum had one and she did!

Is an MRI with contrast just as good or is a Ct scan more likley to pick up a PE?

I will stop the questions eventually! Nag, nag, nag!!!

On top of other rubbish (see other postings) I forgot about having a varicous vein removed about 20 years ago (one of those ops where they cut little incisions all the way down)! Same leg as dvt!

Any advice/experience?

why has my INR target been changed?

Anyone have any advice re why after having between 2 and 3 as my INR target, my
doctor now insists that the target is below 2 (and claims it always was, which
makes no sense because I tested at 2.7ish regularly many times before). When I
asked (the nurse on the phone) wasn't 2 to 3 the therapeutic range, she called back
and said doctor's reply was that no, below 2 was the goal for DVT. She could not
answer why when I said why did that change, the goal used to be between 2 and
3? I don't see the doctor during labwork.
I have had such a terrible time with doctors that I am loathe to press this one, who
is otherwise helpful. My orthopedic surgeon caused the clot through absolute
negligence (hospital flagged me as high risk for DVT prior to surgery - told
surgeon, not me - surgeon ignored it, didn't even take me off estrogen despite the
high risk rating and the 8 weeks immobility from broken foot - then surgeon failed
to diagnose DVT, then treated me like complet... read more

Hey everyone, I have an old thread going as well, but this was a
completely different topic. So the surgeon called my doctor yesterday
(2 weeks post DVT in my left leg - thigh to knee) to mention that I
should get fitted for compression stockings. I went there this morning
and have found out I'm in 30-40 thigh high compression....isn't that
the highest and tightest out there? I'm just looking for some other
people that are in or have been in this type...as well I was told to
sleep in these thing and wear them all the time besides bath time?
Oh lord, tell me there are some good with these things...I am now
getting some pain in my lower calf as of the last 2 days, still can't
walk (get around on crutches or wheelchair)....will it help with
either of these things? any info appreciated. THANK YOU! This forum is
great...just wanted to say it feels nice to have people who understand
