DVT deep vein thrombosis forum

One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

My stories pretty similar to the one below, except for the fact that I am 17 years old. For me, I had gotten Deep Vein Thrombosis in my left leg, last year, and was on warfarin for 8 months. I was on bed rest for 11 days at the hospital, and have never experienced pain like that in my entire life.

So in august(2011), a week before starting grade 12 (my graduation year) I went to the hospital for a regular check up and ultrasound, where they found a blood clot in my chest, right next to me heart. This new absolutely crushed me in every way. I was then on enoxaparin, an injection, which I now regret taking.

2 weeks ago, I was told that its okay to stop taking the blood thinners, however, now that I am off, I am getting these really bad headaches ,and I seem to get angry at everybody. Is this normal? I dont want to worry my parents..

I had a massive DVT (from ankle to groin) 14 years ago. I was told I
could no longer give blood. Do you think after this amount of time I
could start donating again, or would it be too risky?

Extensive DVT - pregnancy - good news

I had a DVT 2 weeks after giving birth in 2007. The clot was from the pelvis to the knee, my leg was swollen to more than twice the size of the right leg and I was in extensive pain and unable to move at all for a week and then very limited (to the toilet) for 2 months. After 6 months I came off warfarin but my leg was still huge and painful, within 3 weeks I was back in hospital with multiple clots on the lung.

I want to share my story as I know how hard it is but my journey has been positive.

Thigh length compression stockings were amazing and helped no end to reduce pain and swelling. I had previously run marathons and was now struggling to walk 100 metres. The leg was heavy, red and swollen. I persevered and built up to walking 3 miles a day as physio and gradually the leg improved. I play sports, do spinning classes but can't really run.

We really wanted a 2nd child and was referred to UCL hospital in London for specialist advice and after much deliberation and balanci... read more

Hey everyone,

I'm just curious as to how long it took for most of you to walk again
if that was a problem for you during your DVT. I have a clot from my
pelvis to below my knee, left leg. I'll be 3 weeks on thursday. i can
barely get around at all, and use a wheelchair for most of my outings
in and out of the house. Still have a lot of pain as well. Getting my
compression stockings tomorrow. So if you can please leave how long it
took for you to walk "normally" again i'd like to see the range.
Cheers.

Are there any post DVT treatments ?

Hello, I am 17 yo and I had DVT from knee to navel a year ago one week
after I took the plane. I also started to take the pill at that time.
I did not have any blood clotting mutations identified so it is
obviously very back luck that only those two factors gave me DVT.

I am now over a year post DVT on oral blood thinners, my leg is only
by about 1cm of perimeter bigger than the other one right after
removing compression stockings. But what concers me is that is still
swells a lot and gets painful after about 5 to 10 minutes of walking.

I am very worried that it will not get any better as it is like that
since 6 months and my walk perimeter didn't progress at all. My legs
just starts to feel numb then gets painful.

My doctors are very short on answers on that side "we cannot know for
sure" "we need to wait" but I heard from some people and on forums
that there were new radio cathererism techniques to remove an old
stuck clot that allowed them to walk a... read more

Hi,

I was diagonsed with DVT in my right arm 4 weeks ago. Because
I am a Transit Driver, I can not work as long as I have a current diagonis of any kind of Trombosis (per CFR 49).

I am a 55 yr old male who tries to stay in shape with weights, hiking/walking, yoga, a semi healthy diet, non-smoker light social drinker. 10 days before I was told I had DVT,I thought I tweaked my elbow trying to doing some repairs around the house. I went to see an ortho doc who had performed surgery on my left wrist 3 yrs ago. Symptoms were major swelling and pain in the right elbow. After x-rays I was told a muscle strain, use ice, rest and ibuproferin. A week later isaw the doc again and told them that I thought the pain was getting worse and the heat coming off the elbow was getting worse. They said to keepup with treatment and to start PT in a couple of days. I am not usally one to question medical professionals, for some reason I knew something else was wrong. After doing some research on ... read more

I was struck by a car on 9/23/11. I hurt my wrist and my ankle. After being placed in a
temporary cast, I was then placed in a calm walker and told to sleep in it. About a month
later I had a blood clot. I was on warafrin for about a month and they felt it was better.
After a second ultrasound, there is a clot in a different vein, not as serious as the first.
Now the workman's comp doctors are trying to say I had a preexisting blood disorder and
that is what caused the clot, not the injury. I have never had anything wrong with me
before I was struck by the car.

Excessively dry skin on leg with dvt

Hi
Just searching to see if my excessively dry skin is "normal". I've never had dry
skin before.
Just over 2 months ago I was diagnosed with a dvt from mid thigh to calf after a
trauma to my knee. ( also had bursitis, partial tear to ACL and extensive bone
bruising.) it took me 24 days of lovenox injections and 2 months to get
therapeutic ( on 11mg of warfarin). My foot if not elevated still turns blue, cold
and swollen. My skin on my dvt leg is progressively getting dryer. I'm talking
snows when I take my pants off, flakes through my socks.
Is this just another sign of warfarin? Or should I be concerned and go back yet
again to the dr?
Oh, and I'm a 40yr old 106lbs female that is/was extremely active ( ran 120k in
23hr this past summer).

amount of clear phlegm. Not short of breath. Nose a bit stuffed up. During this
healing time, how do you tell between normal symptoms and PE symptoms. Will
a chest cold have make PE symptoms worse (I have been asymtpomatic so far)

Old Blood Clot

Had severe blood clot in the groin area left leg about 6-7 years ago; hospitalized for a couple of weeks; took me off HRT therapy immediately and on coumidin for about 6 months....have made now 3 trips back to ER with swelling and pain in left leg; the most recent, the worse; tingling, numbness, discoloration; pain that wakes me in the night...left leg. At ER, again, they did ultrasound, both legs, right leg is fine, as usual, left leg still has the old clot, apparently, my veins have re-routed around it, no new clots and they say blood blood flow is OK.........my question, what's to keep that old clot from moving; obviously they keep sending me home, this time a script for the pain and issues that continue at night when laying down. Two ultrasounds prior to this one; they never mentioned that the old clot was still there.
