DVT deep vein thrombosis forum

One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Are DVT Symptoms consistant

I had a very large DVT in my right leg after a knee surgery 2 years ago. Placed on coumadin. I then had achilles surgery in the same leg and was given permission to come off coumadin 2 weeks ago - (3 months after last surgery.) Now I'm getting a little nervous about some of the sharp pain I'm getting in the right leg. It's swollen, but has been that way since the original DVT. It's not red or warm - but, wasn't when I had the DVT. In addition to the sharp pain, I feel like my calf muscle is hard as a rock.Yet, I don't have that sudden rush of pain when I get out of bed in the morning. Could this be another DVT? OR, is it likely that after being on coumadin for 2 years, I'm feeling the results of the damage that was done?

Hey guys, so I have a question. I have a dvt and have been on blood thinners for
a few months. I got it from being on birth control apparently. I have been having
mild chest pains that come and go. Lately my back has started hurting as well in
the area directly in back of my heart. I have been to urgent care and asked my
hematologist about it and they tell me the pain is probably asthma. Though I
dont feel like it is. I know many people have had pe's on this site so I was
curious if anyone had upper back pain or mild symptoms that come and go? The
back pain seems to worsen when i try to stretch or take a deep breath, and the
chest pain is totally intermittent

I fell on Sat night Nov 26 and my left shin is still a bit swollen and I still have an open wound. The ambulance suggested I went to the ER if I felt worse but I didn't. I took Ibuprofen on Saturday night and also on Sunday. I also have been putting an ice pack on the shin on and off throughout the day. I clean the wound with soap and water and afterwards I use alcohol and hydrogen peroxide to make sure it is sterile. I then apply the antibiotic ointment and put a bandage on it. I don't think I have leg Hematoma as the swelling has gone down quite a bit. My questions are: Am I taking the correct steps in taking care of it? Can I return to the gym tomorrow although the wound is still opened and it is a bit swollen and bruised? Tomorrow I would be doing 1 hour of Strength Works.

infant with clot

My 6 month old son got sick at one month old and wound up in PICU for
several weeks. Long story short he had a central IV in his right leg
for 8 days and now has an occlusive clot from it. For 3 months we
gave him lovenox injections twice a day. After getting a ultra sound
the hematologist told us the lovenox was not helping and we stopped
the injections. His leg has swelled a little since we stopped the
injections and we go back for another ultrasound in a few weeks. Im
very uncomfortable with the "wait and see" approach.
He currently is seen by a doctor at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia
but I was curious if anyone had contact information for a pediatric
thrombosis specialist. Willing to travel anywhere for the right
doctor.
thanks

I have immunoglobulin infusion on a regular basis. I've made note of all my platelet counts and dates etc.Is there a rule of thumb I could use to work out my platelet loss per day or week so that I could make an estimation for my next immunoglobulin infusion date?

Pushing yourself: how far is too far

Being released from hospital after large DVT w/PEs. They want me to walk
around like normal and "live my life" but after a week of bedrest my knee and
ankle are not cooperating. Behind the knee is extremely painful when trying to
extend to walk and vein in ankle pops out a bit when pressure is on it. How do
you know how far to push yourself without further injury (clot breaking off to
another PE) . Will it get easier with time- to figure out the difference between
getting better and making it worse? I feel so confused about going out into world
and dealing with this.

Natural herbs with Warfarin

My mother,75 and lives in the Caribbean was diagnosed with DVT in 2010
& had a very near miss between life & death. She is now on warfarin
with other medication. She has had to change her love of fresh
vegetables to select ones, very difficult change at her time of life.
The natural plant Sorrel is used to make a Christmas drink and she
wants to know if she can drink this with Warfarin. The petals of the
flower part of the plant, together with, fresh ginger, is boiled to
make a refreshing drink, similar to cranberry in colour. This is all
new to us and I would appreciate anyone who knows anything about this
herb/drug combination? Thank you

Hello ,

i am an 18 year old female who was diagnosed with Factor V Leiden
Homozygous when i was 16, had a major DVT through my left leg. I am on
warfarin everyday for life, and wear a support stocking to my knee all
the time. My left leg swells pretty much every day after exercise etc,
i am wondering does anyone know of any natural products/ supplements
that could lower my warfarin dose, and also of ANY way to help control
the swelling.

would love to hear some advice.

Hi everyone!

Im really concerened i have a dvt/pe!

It started 1 month ago after i woke up due to leg pain! Went to the doctor the next
day who suspected a dvt! I had an injection in my stomach and a blood test and
had a scan booked for the next day! Both of these came back negative!

1 week later the pain spread up my leg into my thigh! Went back to the doctor
who ordered another blood test and ultrasound! Again both of these came back
normal!

I left it 2 weeks but the pain hasnt gotten any better and iv developed a tightness
in my chest along with pain when i breath! Went back to my doctors who said she
didnt think it was anything to worry about! I pushed for a 3rd blood test and
ultrasound and again these have come back negative! Iv also had a ecg and a
chest xray which were normal

Iv also started to get a pain in my back! What i was wondering is how likley is it
that 3 blood tests and 3 scans would come back negative if a dvt or pe were the

***I'm sorry if some don't make sense, it is hard for me to word things right.***

Hi. I have been having severe pain in my left leg for over a week. It started as being from just below the knee to now down to my ankle. At the end of the day the whole below the knee will hurt worse but not as bad as below. I have very little swelling (My ankle is half an inch to an inch thicker than the other side) and no redness. There is a lot of pain if I lift my foot up towards my head. That is it though. It hurts to walk and move my leg but there is nothing if I am just sitting and don't move.

I had brain surgery 5 months ago and I'm not very active. I sleep a lot due to meds and sit a lot due to dizziness. This just hurts really bad and I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to go to the doctor for no reason. Thanks for any help!

DVT in leg... this is my second. What actually causes the deep muscle pain? I can
tolerate it and can push myself but I'm concerned for continued or worsening the
condition. What/When do you start pushing it? Im 4 days post clot, on Warfarin
and Lovenox shots.

Thanks

im on long term clexane shots of 70mg twice daily,i am currently 6 months pregnant and cannot have warfarin because of it,the pregnancy was unplanned and unwanted and i had planned an abortion but at around 12 weeks discovered i had deep vein thrombosis and as a result was deemed medically irresponsible to have an abortion before fixing the clot issue....however...the clot remains and so does child..clexane is awful and i am unable to inject myself due to an aversion with needles i am very sad about my husband doing it for me and have just about had enough
