One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Developed a large clot from knee to groin while on vacation.I am receiving
Lovenox and Coumadin in hospital and will be released when levels are
therapeutic. Once released, I have to go home. It is an 8 hour car ride. Can I
ride in he car soon after hospital release if I elevate my legs and get out and
walk every hour? Doctors are saying no, but I can't stay here.

DVT with compression stockings

Has anybody had a DVT form when compression stockings were on while sitting for long periods-with absolutely no blood thinning mechanism such as Warfarin/Heparin?

I have not had this happen to me...I was just wondering if this was unheard of or not.

-If you have experienced this, please explain what blood clotting deficiencies you have (if any), and what you were doing at the time.

hello,
i had an ankle fracture operation beginning of july this year and started weight bearing with crutches only 4 weeks ago. i injected myself with blood thinning med for 4 weeks after the operation.
one week ago i have noticed my leg getting very hot and red whilst walking through the flat but the redness disappeared when i had my leg up in bed again. this evening the redness did not go away even after stretching out in bed. the physio was here this morning and she asked me to phone my doctor. the doc asked all kind of questions and she said that she was not worried as the redness went away once i was back in bed. i have no pain in my leg, do i always have pain with dvt? i am getting a bit worried now. thank you for your reply, jennifer

Still am looking. I was in a motercycle accident almost 1 year ago. I barely
survived ,injuries extensive. I know it was the impact that caused the clots.
After about a month out of hospital I was diagnosed with multiple DVTs in left
leg ( 5 thru ankle, calf, and thigh). My left side was side that took most damage.
My leg turned cold, swollen and purple before my dr. told me it may be a blood
clot and I found out it was ..many. I have been on a steady diet of warafin since
( the shots in the tummy for a good while but no more, thank goodness.
)Anyhow, I have been searching all over the "net" for the past few days looking
for answers. I have had no problems until recently. I will be walking along ,or
just standing and my ankle will turn in and I find myself standing or walking on
it ( ankle). Now my calf (which the muscle had atrophied) on that side is swollen
and even more painful then ever. I find it so hard to walk I am tempted to get
my walker biack out ... read more

Hi all,

Just stumbled across this site - what a fantastic thing!! I was diagnosed with extensive DVT and PE some 5 weeks ago (brief summary: 37 year old from UK, prev fit and healthy, accident and then many weeks of horror=finally being sent for scan and diagnosis etc)

Anyway - I have query about compression classification in stockings...hospital issued me with knee length stockings (yay - giant deformed looking lower limb has returned to almost normal!) - make Mediven Elegance Class 2. Following one of many visits to hospiatl on various tests etc, a new consultant suggested thigh stockings as main clot runs ankle to groin - but as hospital doesn't have them, to get through Docters. So my practice nurse ordered Activa Class 2 thigh highs...

British and European classes are different, so the Mediven are european class 2 - 23-32mmHg - wheras Activa british class 2 - 18-24mmHg - is this ok? Or should I ask for British Class 3? Tried asking paractice, but they told me the... read more

Hello there,

Im from the uk and iv been having a little trouble with my leg! They expected a dvt
and they have done a blood test! The docs have told me my result was negative
at 1.1! I was just wondering if any one out there new the ranges? Is 1.1 on the
high side of negative or with that result am i completly safe?

Im still getting a lot of trouble with my leg and not sure if i should request a scan?
They have said i dont need one as im low risk on the wells chart and my d-dimer
was fine! If its on the high side il pop back and ask for another test and a scan

Thank you for your time!

Hi, iv had symptoms of a dvt for 3 weeks! Iv had a scan and a blood trst which
came back fine! My symptoms in my leg seems to be clearing up which im
pleased with but im starting to feel really tight chested and occasionly i get sharp
pains when i breath in! I have two questions

First - if i had a dvt which then turned into a PE would the pain the leg go or get
better or would i have both?

Secondly would PE symptoms ease off and then get worse again or are they
pretty consistsnt?

Im not sure if im getting this because im worrying about it

Good evening,
I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has had multiple DVTs in the same area? I had a dvt in my left lower leg in 2007 and because of that also found out I have Factor V Leiden. I always keep an extra close eye on my legs. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced a dvt and then got another one years later?

Ringing in ears

Hi. I woke up today with hearing loss and ringing in my right ear (the side I slept
on all night). After I got up it lessened to mostly ringing and a heaviness in that
ear. I am 7 days post 2 DVTs in left leg. Still on Lovenox and just yesterday
doubled Coumadin dose (INR only 1.3). Could this be a side effect of the meds?
Anyone else had this? Now I'm getting scared.

New diagnosis HELP!!!!

Hi everyone. I'm after some help if possible from people who know how I'm
feeling. I'm 23 and have had a swollen foot for about 2 months. It's been pretty
painful whilst I've been walking all over the place. Around London, theme parks,
travelled to Spain. I drive everyday for work probably anything up to 5 hours 5
days a week which I've been doing for almost 4 months. I have been back and
forwards to the doctors and told it was cellulitis but finally discovered 2 days
ago it is DVT in my lower left calf. I've started treatment but am now finding my
whole leg is aching and feels heavy. I feel the occassional spasm in my leg
which can be quite painful. I'm sure my DVT was caused by my long drives and
the fact that I am classed as being obese. I'm really scared. I'm starting to get
paranoid and think it's travelled up to my thigh and making it's way to my lungs
and heart. I would really appreciate a little guidance and advise on what is
normal to feel.

Thanks

Time to take Warfarin abroad

Hi,
I live in the UK and take 4mg of Warfarin daily at 1.0pm with my lunch. I had a clot on my lung which was diagnosed last October. My doctor says I can fly to America.

With the 5 hour time difference, should I continue to take Warfarin when I'm in America. at the time I took it in the UK?
So I would take it at 8.0am with my breakfast which equates to 1.0pm UK time? That way I am taking it at the same interval each day.

If I take it 1.0pm USA time then I am scared it will interfere with my INR which is a bit up and down anyway.
Any advice?
