DVT deep vein thrombosis forum

One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and I've never really heard of thrombosis before
until my mum got diagnosed very recently. I was wondering if this forum could
help me understand more about her condition.

Around the 1st September, my mum started having shooting pains in her left leg,
with cramps. She couldnt walk and when she did, it was always in pain and very
slowly. She was admitted to the hospital where they ran some tests (mammogram,
MRI etc) and she was diagnosed with thrombosis although she hadnt been on a
flight nor was she held in one position for too long. The doctor gave her some
medication which included injection shots around her stomach.

She was discharged from the hospital four days later. There were few signs of
improvement; she walked more, there was less pain.

About a week later, (thats two days ago approximately), she started complaining
that her left feet was swelling up, and it was quite visibly so. Today she complained
that she... read more

I'm 17 and about two months ago I had a DVT from my knee to my hip in
my right thigh. My entire leg swelled to about three times the size of
the other and I had to stay in the hospital for about two weeks
because when they tried to remove the clot they discovered I have two
more in my stomach/groin area on both sides of my body underneath
where my IVC vein is supposed to be. the IVC vein underneath my
kidneys is very small or genetically absent.

I have a few questions as every doctor I see tells me something different.

The swelling in my leg decreased some but has since stayed the same
size and is still very painful. One doctor said it may be like this
the rest of my life? (o.o I'm 17 guys.)

I've experienced very bad headaches and tingling in my pinky and ring
fingers? I was wondering if this was normal or not.

Also being able to become wet is now hard, I still experience the
hormonal want to have intercourse but nothing happens.

Also should I hav... read more

Dry cough

I'm a month into warfarin therapy after finding a clot in my leg, but over the last couple of weeks I've developed a hacking dry cough which is really annoying me and leaving me short of breath sometimes. I mentioned it to the GP and he had a listen and put me on some antibiotics, whcih have had no effect on it. Now I'm obsessively thinking I've got PEs in my lungs and things are a whole lot more serious. The cough is not productive and doesn't keep me awake, but it's there, lurking, most of the day. Any insights anyone

Hi everyone
Am desperate for some advice. After our 5th ivf attempt we achieved our dream
and got pregnant. At 8 wks 3 days I went to hospital with pain in my left leg,
groin and lower tummy. A scan showed my baby was ok and we even heard the
heartbeat. I was admitted and a Doppler showed a large dvt in my femoral artery
and iliac vein in my groin. I was started on clexane 60 mg twice daily and 2 days
later sent home. On Monday we had our 12 week scan to be told my little baby
had died at 9 wks. We are heartbroken. We've been told the safest option is
medical management were I'll take a tablet to bring on contractions as I won't
have to stop the clexane as they've said it's too dangerous for me to do yet.
They are now saying however if surgery was needed I'll need a filter in place first
which has been scheduled for Monday and then they'll sort the procedure for the
baby out.
Please please has anybody had a miscarriage while on dvt treatment? Am
terrified a... read more

Great Room/Beautiful Oceanview in South Beach

This room was perfect for our vacation in Florida before going to Orlando. We were really impressed with the professional way provided by www.travelfurnish.com.
We were worried about booking a private room as we were used to stay in regular hotels. The room had everything we needed,
beautiful furniture, a nice flat TV, and free local calls. It was very clean and very well kept. There was also a safe inside our room.
I wish we could live there. Dov from www.travelfurnish.com was amazing and gave us great tips for restaurantes in the area.
He also offered us a parking nearby at half of the price offered, which was a big plus. We are already planning another vacation but we want to stay only
in Miami, in the same room, in our beautiful South Beach! Highly recommended...We miss Miami and our room!!

Hi everybody. Am heading off to the hematologist for some tests. Had a dvt in
my calf for 'no apparent reason', although my parents have had several. Any
ideas of good questions to ask the hematologist? Am paying alot for a consult
with a specialist and would like some ideas on some questions. Cheers

Patient Self-Testing

I have read about the number of forum uses who are concerned about their INR levels and rightly so. It is very difficult for your provider to maintain your therapeutic range if you are being tested every other week or longer. I have been self-testing and self-dosing weekly now for over a year, after being sub-therapeutic because I was left for over 5 weeks during the Christmas period. The excellent thing about self-testing is you can do it yourself at anytime and anywhere in the world and get your result in minutes. An example of this was last week I was 2.8 (2.5 to 3.5) and the following week I had dropped to 2.2 below my therapeutic range but could increase my dose by 0.5mg and test myself again in 3 days to see if it is therapeutic. Had I had to wait to see the specialist nurse, I could have another clot (DVT). Anyone interested in self-testing should go to www.anticoagulationeurope.com or get in touch with me via this forum.

New swelling after DVT

My fiance was diagnosed with his second DVT last April. Everything has
been going fine and he is on wafarin. A couple days ago, his leg
swelled up to the worst it has been in a month. The weather here
suddenly became hot and humid and he recently returned to school. Could
this be part of the new healing process, he needs a new dose of wafarin,
or even worse, a new clot? This recent clot went all the way from his
foot to his groin. He does not have any pain and has no trouble
walking. I am very scared and feel like I can't deal with this anymore.

I broke my ankle and had surgery back in 2000. My ankle was always swollen after that. Just last February I sliped on some ice and broke the same ankle again. Not a bad break, but I did have to wear a boot and keep weight off of it.

A week later I noticed what I thought was a superficial blood clot below my ankle. My ortho said I needed an ultra sound. The tech didn't even look at the clot I was feeling. Instead she checked the major vein in my and found a partial clot behind the knee and a full one in the calf.

It's now been 6 months and I wanted to get off the warfarin. My GP wanted me to stay on it for 8 months. She said if i had a follow up ultrasound and it was clear, I could go off.

It was far from clear. This time, the tech told me there was some occlusive clotting in the thigh and the other two clots were still there. She also said they looked old. There were new veins growing around the calf clot. I think they might be from the original broken ankle ten years ago... read more

Is DVT the same as CVI?

Doctors say I have CVI and i need to wear socks. 30-40

I saw a tv commercial that helps (Circulation Booster V3). You can
google it and it brings to the site. They say it is not recommended for
DVT. Any feedback is good, Thanks to all and hang in there.

My husband's leg swelled up 3x the size of his right leg - we went to the dr. who sent us for ultrasound - ultrasound showed large clots in groin - calf and behind knee - they sent him home today with injections of lovonox - and cumadin to take by mouth - and didn't give him compression stockings or anything - since when do hospitals not take blood clots and dvt serious anymore? All they said is if he has chest pain - come back to the Emergency Room and that was it.. what are others experience with this? Do you think this is normal? His leg is HUGE - and very painful - and they sent him home....

Hi there. My husband is 39 years old and last month he was diagnosed with SVT which is Superficial Vein Thrombosis. A "lighter" form of DVT. Instead of 3 months stomach injections with Heparin, just one. The doctors told me to buy him compression stockings. Here is a site where you can get some info and buy the stockings too:

Hi all, I was diagnosed just two weeks ago with DVT in my left leg, femural vein from my thigh, back behind the knee to my calf. Thought I had just strained a muscle because I had been working out a lot lately getting ready for a hiking trip.

Luckily it was caught before I had a PE! I was taking tamoxefin to prevent possible breast cancer and they think that may be the culprit. Am already off the Lovenex and am taking 7.5mm of coumadin. My last INR was 2.6.

Hematologist said I should still be OK to travel in two weeks, though I'm worried about it, I don't want to cancel the trip. I won't do as strenuous hiking as first planned, but hope to still do many walks. I'm wearing 30-40 weight compression socks. I've just been wearing them on the affected leg, but may wear on both legs when doing more walking. Seems to help quite a bit.

Still trying to figure out the vitamin K situation. I know the key is to be consistent, so I'm still drinking a cup of green tea, but trying to do... read more
