One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Is it recommended to wear compression stockings when a leg DVT is first diagnosed, or wait until the clot has dissolved? I've heard it both ways from my doctors, so not sure what to do...

Home Test: Where do you purchase strips?

Hi everyone! (It's been awhile since I've been on, so I'm sorry if there's already a topic on this - I searched but couldn't find one)

I home test with INRatio2 (hemosense), and I need to buy more strips. (My doc follows my results, but doesn't provide the supplies). My first box of strips came with my monitor.

Has anyone ordered from "INRatioStrips(dot)com"? They seem to have reasonable prices, but I was wondering how the company is to deal with if I have a problem with the order/product.

All other input welcome! Thanks in advance.

Hi All - I was diagnosed with a 6 inch long clot in mid left thigh a week ago. I
gave myself the Lovenox shots 2x day for 5 days and am on 7.5mgs of Warafin
(down from 10 initially). I have agonizing pain in my calf along w swelling as day
goes on ( I am now back at work at my desk job kinda half-ish days). I do have
pain in my thigh but not as badly or frequently No swelling in thigh.

I would really appreciate any thoughts on the following:

- why is pain so bad in my calf? Does it mean I have clots there too? Does it
really matter as mess would hit all clots in body?
- how long will this pain, swelling and hard time walking go on? Will it ever be
no-pain/normal?
- I'm being treated by my everyday dr who really just leaves everything to nurse
practitioner. Do I need a specialist and if so what kind?
- being a week on the medicine am I out of the woods in terms of embolism risk?
- I feel super nauseous after taking my paraffin everyday Does an... read more

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar sensation. The first night of taking warf I could feel my DVT making a fluttering sensation that was on and off for several hours. I imagined that it was the warf marching in there and working on the clot, I asked the doctor about it he just laughed. Anyone else felt this?

Can you get clotting disorder from blood?

Hi all. I am suffering DVT the full lenth of my left leg following surgery. I have had so many surgeries over the years with not so much as one complication. All of the sudden, this time, a big old blood clot. No one in my family has ever had a clot. Last year I had a bleeding gastic ulcer and received a blood transfusion. Does anyone know if I could have gotten a clotting disorder from the transfusion? Or are they all genetic only and there's no way? This has been on my mind but I keep forgetting to ask the doctor, who probably wouldn't know anyway.

It's been a little over six years since I had my blood clot. I had surgery to
remove my clot in my left leg, and get checked annually for clots. So far
everything has been good. I have factor v Leiden and am not on coumadin
anymore. Here is my question: my leg still swells for days at a time, then goes
away. Some disomfort but no pain. It has always been like this, but it still makes
me nervous. Does anyone else who isclot free now, still experience this? Also,
how long do you sit before moving around, and how long do you move around?
Thank you...

So I just met with the specialist and he told me that I have lupus anticoagulant. This means that
I will be living on coumadin for the. rest of my life, unless this decides to go away on its own.
He said that if I get two negative tests in a row, tests are once every six months, then I can get
Off this medication. I'm not hopeful though, I feel like a poster child
for Murphy's law.

Have any of you been diagnosed with this? Anyone ever have it "go away"?

Right Arm Sub-clavian

Hello everyone,

I myself at the minute am actually going through this case, i have a subclavian dvt in my right arm. It actually occured when i was at work when i noticed my arm swelling abnormally. i went through the normal procedure having an agiagram, then from there, i was told that the removal of me top rib would help, so then they could try and dissolve the clot, i was on heperin at first and now warfarin for six month, now 3 month down the line, i have recently been back to the hospital to try and have the clot removed and have a stent (balloon) put in. But unfortunatly, they could not romeve the clot in order for to get this done. I am now in the process of waiting for other consultants to have a look at my scans and see which is going to be the best way to get this problem sorted.
If anyone can relate to this any comments would be more than welcome.
Thankyou,,,,, Mark

Hello,
Any help on this would be appreciated! I am 23 years old, had a DVT in my calf after an opp on my left ankle in august '08.
I am now 11 weeks pregnant and cant seem to find anything that gives any advise on the internet about what happens next.
I am waiting still for an appoitment at the hospital after being refered as urgent from my midwife.
Is it true that any one with a previous DVT is treated later in pregnancy as though they have it again?
And do you have to be induced?
Any advise would help!

Kind Regards x

I developed a blood clot in my leg after recent gall bladder surgery. I was put on lovenox and warfarin. They took me off the lovenox and reduced my warfarin to 2.5 mg a day and 5mg on Friday because they said it was "too high". I had been taking the new dose for a week and my leg started hurting again really bad towards the end of the week so I figured they would be increasing my dose again.

I had my blood checked Friday, but my doctor said I have to wait til Monday for the results in the meantime my leg is hurting worse and I can barely walk on it. Is it normal for the pain to regress like that? Even when you are on the blood thinners? I did walk on it a lot on Friday...

i had a scope done on my knee on OCt 9th. 6 days later i had an ultrasound bc my calf hurt and a dvt was disovered. less than a month from that i had a follow up ultrasound and the dvt was gone. im still on coumadin and will be until jan. which will be 3 months. my biggest concern is coming off the medication and getting another dvt. My question is bc my dvt was from a surgery what are my chances of getting another one? also does 3 months sound long enough to be on the coumadin? also how tight should my dvt stockings be? im on 18 but i heard i should be on 20-30. one other question is i am flying in april and was wondering if i should get lovenox injections before. how long would you consider a long flight to be?

Swelling after thrombectomy -- recovery time?

Hi everyone --

I'm a new visitor to the forum, in this case not for me but for my 71-year-old mother. She had a filter installed a few years ago for some small clots and opted against blood thinners at the time. Unfortunately, that was probably the wrong decision and she ended up recently developing a large clot (after being bedridden for a week with an intestinal obstruction) that required emergency treatment. The same vascular surgeon who installed the filter performed a mechanical thrombectomy to remove the clot; he said the clot had clogged the filter. After that, she was bridged from heparin to coumadin in the hospital and released a week ago today when her INR hit 1.9. She is now on 5 mg of coumadin a day and has to go for blood tests twice a week. Her INR is currently at 2.2.

Here's the current issue, though -- when mom got out of the hospital a week ago, the swelling was down considerably. But a day or so after being home and out of bed, her left leg swelled b... read more

Kenalog injection cause of DVT?

I posted previously in the wrong place, so will try again: I've had a
lot of swelling in both feet for several months that started soon
after a Kenalog injection in my knee. The recommendation from my
doctor was to increase my diuretics, but that didn't help and the
swelling continued. I had a doppler a month ago and it was negative
for DVT, but the swelling in both feet was getting worse. I had a
doppler last week because of even more swelling with new redness and
this time it showed a five-inch long DVT in my calf. Is it possible
the DVT was simply missed a month ago, especially one of this size?
I'm giving myself Arixtra injections every day, but not sure if it's
helping much because the swelling continues. Wondering why both feet
have been swelling if the DVT is only on one side? Is it possible the
injection in my knee caused the DVT, which is on the same side? How
long does it normally take while on Arixtra before the swelling
disappears? Tha... read more

DCA help please

Hi. My 75 year old mother has advanced pancreatic cancer that has spread to her liver and kidneys. She is not eating well so her weight has dropped from 68 kg to 57.6 kg in 6 months so she is too weak for chymo or surgery. Thus as a family we have decided to try DCA. I've read up as much as possible and the plan was to give her 0.57mg per day, 300mg of B1 and 200mg of caffeine tablets.

Does that combination of DCA, B1 and caffeine sound right?
Also, should we give it to her in one go?

Any help people can give would be much appreciated.
