One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

hello
i was in a car accident back in 86. spent two months at duke hospital. while
there i was diagnosed with blood clots. doctors put me on coumadin for 6
months.
Back in 2001 i fell off the roof of the house. didnt break or hurt anything. a
month later i was in ICU with DVT and clots all up my legs and waist. Doctor at
the time mentioned something about me not having an IVC.
Last year i had wrist and knee surgery. in November last year i went to doc
about tenderness in my waist area. come to find out i had superficial clots. I
have been taking warfarin for 20 years at this point. New doc put me on eliquis
for 3 months. in December i went back to Head of Vascular at local hospital.
(doc who saw me when i was in ICU) He knew my clotting history, with more
clots in groin area. He put me on Lovanox for a month. Last month they did an
Endoscopy to see if there were any veins to put stents in to help the flow. He
went up my leg and down my neck and couldnt find... read more

flying with clexane

Hi all
I had a DVT and multiple PE in April last year caused by birth control pill, which I have since stopped taking. I have no other risk factors. I Was on Warfarin until Dec. Have had no problems since.

I am going on a 9.5 hr international flight in a few weeks. I have compression stockings to wear and my doctor has prescribed clexane injections. My question relates to the dosage of clexane.

My doctor said I should have one 60ml injection the night before my flight, another one 12 hours later (a few hours before boarding), and then a third injection 12 hours later (about an hour before landing). Are 3 injections necessary? Is it enough to just have one a few hours before the flight?

any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I am really hoping someone out there has answer for me. After the first day home from the hospital, I starting developing some really extreme pain in my leg from the DVT. It was in my femerol vain and the pain streches from the groin to my ankle. The swelling is almost completely gone but my calf muscle is killing me an it is very very tight. My husband think I strained it when I started walking again after laying in a hospital beed for 5 days. My INR is 2.2 at last check (2 days ago.) I called my dr and he wasn't concerned, but I can barely breathe through this pain. Should I go back to the emergency room?

IVC filter-stuck

Hey All,
I've posted a few times on here, and everyone always is so helpful, so here I go again. I had a 2.5 foot clot in my right leg and multiple bi-lateral PE's in November. I had several surgeries (angioplasty, venagrams, thrombolysis, TPA therapy) to remove as it was blocking my vena cave. I wear compression hose and am on Coumadin. I had a tulip retrievable filter put in at my community hospital before I transferred to Cleveland Clinic. There was a big debate about whether I should have the filter removed or not. I chose to have it removed, but it's stuck. They say it's embedded on my vena cava. Supposedly this is okay and there's nothing I can do. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Can clexane dissolve clots or just stop new

Hi everyone, I just had my first follow-up ultrasound for a dvt below the knee. It looks stable and hasn't increased in size :)

The sonographer said he has heard that clexane (low molecular heparin) could help dissolve a clot. But I've seen info that says it only stops new clots forming.

My only treatment at the moment is 150mg aspirin, compression socks, keeping hydrated etc. And resting.
I had a couple of leg operations last year and would really like to make sure I'm doing everything I can to get past this complication.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sever calf pain after ACL surgery

How's it going everybody! I had an ACL surgery about 5 days ago. Last night I
woke up from a pain in my calf. My calf is someone swollen no redness or
anything. It is tender to touch and hurts more when I stand up even if I don't put
pressure on it just standing up hurts. A lot! Could it be a blood clot? I've been
taking aspirin 325 mg like the doctor recommended once a day. The first 3 days
didn't move much just stayed in bed. The 3rd day I started therapy didn't hurt to
bad. The 4th day I did some excercises at home and all was well didn't really hurt
much. I could walk on it putting about 30% weight on it. Usually I have calf pain
but if I continue to walk on it it goes away . Still tender to touch though . If I flex
my calf I don't feel much pain.

Potential DVT?

Since Friday noon, have been having this strange pain on my thigh. It started in the thigh area above the knee - mostly on the outer side of my thigh. The pain is not constant but is a sudden quick sharp pain (which is not that painful but just noticeable) and then it goes away. It comes whenever it feels like it. When I move/walk or stand, the pain is actually less [or I don't notice it] .. and occurs mostly when I am sitting or lying down. In the past two days, I have not noticed it happening while walking/moving but only "at rest".

I started working out sometime in March, running a few weeks ago so at first thought it was a muscle ache/pain. The pain seems to be different at times. Plus remembered that I was in bed for most of Tuesday am to Wednesday (vertigo - lots of sleep) from about 3am to 11am, then 12-ish to 7 etc. Recovered enough to head to work on Thurs, Fri.

About work, I work in the IT industry so tend to stay at my desk a lot - although I do take restroom/wate... read more

Natural or C-Section with DVT

Hi All

I first had DVT in 2001, in both legs. I've gone through the whole compression stockings and tests etc.. I have to be on warfarin for the rest of my life though. The doctors did warn me that I should plan when I wanted to have a child. Anyway, had a bit of a whoops and am now pregnant.

I have stopped warfarin and am on clexane injections. At around 22 weeks pregnant I suffered another clot, but it was in the superficial vein, the Haematologist said he was not worried about it at all.

I am now 31 weeks pregnant, and the doctor STILL cannot tell me if I am going to be having a c-section or if its safe enough to have natural. I would like to have natural, but would obviously do what is safest for me and baby.

Can anyone give me some advice about what you have gone through with giving birth and what options you were offered, and what the procedure is during birth.

I am really panicking about it and would appreciate any input.

Thanks

The Forgotten Aftermath

I was diagnosed with an intensive proximal dvt from ankle to groin two months
ago and was duly prescribed warfarin for 6 months and was intriguingly
advised that my leg would not be rescanned at completion. My research has
since revealed that from the medical standpoint a rescan is a waste of their
time as there is practically nothing they can do if the clot remains unresolved
or there is evidence of veinous damage that is apparently very likely to result
in the cases of proximal dvt. We are then left with untreatable chronic Post
Thrombostic Syndrome. This explains why doctors and nurses are so often
vague about the prognosis questions we ask at the outset.

I was diagnosed with multiple DVT clots in my knee and calf. I was given a one
month prescription for eliquis at the ER. The hospital called my PCP who agreed
to monitor my care. It has been three days and my PCP won't call me back. What
is the PCP supposed to be doing for me. Follow up visits bold tests?

Healing from DVT/PE

I was diagnosed with blood clots 3 months ago. My hematologist
said my last CT scan and Ultrasound came up clean, I'm cured. The
Ultrasound tech however said he couldn't actually see clots, only
that blood was now flowing. That would be great but I still have
burning and tingling in both legs, and pain behind my left knee.
So far Doctors have no idea why I got the clots. Genetic testing
was negative, so they plan to take me off Eliquis and run Protein
C & S + Lupus anticoagulant blood tests.

My question is does anybody else have symptoms after being told
their clots are completely gone?

Thanks in Advance

DVT Pain

Hi all. I was was diagnosed on the 8th Feb 2017 with a DVT in my
lower left calf after a ruptured calf injury on the 3rd Feb 2017.
I was quickly prescribed Apaxiban high dosage for 7 days and I am
now on 5mg twice a day. I am effectively recovering from 2 things
here, the DVT and Ruptured Calf however I am getting lots of pain
particularly at night. My calf and foot are both bruised and
swollen but not as bad as previously. My question is could I have
another DVT? I am worried sick that I have another one. I have had
a ultrasound scan on the 3rd Feb and the DVT Clinic assure me that
the pain is normal after DVT and that I had also the ruptured
calf. They also said that the clot would take time to disperse and
this is not a quick fix. I am currently off sick but I don't feel
up to any work currently. I am using crutches if I have to move a
distance. All I do is worry myself sick over this. I am 52 years
old and feel totally frightened to death! Any advice ... read more

years with no re-occuring clotting. I would like to switch my

and be able to eat salad. My primary care physician has given me the
ok to do this but I cannot find any information on how this will work
with my condition. Any information will be helpful.

Was diagnosed with DVT in right leg on 1/8 after having surgery on the right knee on 1/3. Was on crutches for six weeks due to the knee surgery and have been off for 3 days now.

About 10 days ago I started having pretty severe pain in the opposite calf. Was tested for a DVT in that calf that was negative. I've been therapeutic for 5 weeks with Coumadin/Lovenox. Has anybody else experienced pain like this in an opposite calf? It hurts worse than the DVT leg.
