One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

I recently had this procedure completed by an Interventional Radiologist two
weeks after being diagnosed with multiple blood clots in my right leg. The IR
told me he would only be clearing the clots behind and above my knee but not
the ones below my knee. Unfortunately, I was already on the X-ray table when
he told me this info, so I really didn't get to question why he wouldn't clear the
other clots.

Does anyone know if this is standard procedure and why? Is it because the
veins are too small in the calf; the clots were too small and would dissolve by
themselves; or there are just too many veins in the calf to try and clear them all
out???

I don't think there are valves in veins in my calf, so maybe that's another reason
why he chose to only focus on the more critical clots above the knee.

It's been 9 days since my surgery and while the pulse in my right foot has
improved, I am still getting swelling in my ankle and calf, especially after

sometimes in down the front. Ive had ultrasounds in the past and all
were negative. my doctors have set me up with a neuorolgist next week.
but just wondering if i did have a clot would it have progessively
gotten worse over the last week? i have no other symptoms beside the
tingling/pain that comes and goes. am i just worrying myself? like i
said i have had ultrasounds in the past for this type of pain. any help

Hey guys

I'm getting increasingly concerned about my general level of fitness due to lack of exercise since my DVT.

I use to love swimming but have been advised not to swim unless using a buoyancy aid. Have any of you used the 'Finis Rangs' pullbuoy system? You strap the buoys to your thighs rather than putting the float inbetween and holding.

I will update on here if I get some and have a positive outcome but would appreciate any feedback regarding floats or swimming in general.

(I have a completely occluded left common iliac vein).

Thanks!! :)

I am 32 years old and my life has been devstated by a DVT from three
years ago. Life after DVT has been awful. My legs are in very poor
condition. An ulcer is imminent on my lower left ankle. My doctor
seems as oblivious about my condition as I am. Can anyone recommend a
doctor who has experience with PTS. I am willing to travel anywhere in
North America. I can't stand the stockings, the swelling, the pain. My
entire life has been disrupted and with no end in sight. Any help, any recommendations? Please!

Flying with DVT

I have been diagonised 27/6 with DVT in my right calf and on twice daily injections of
Heparin and have been advised I will be on Warfarin for the next 6 months. In 2
months time I have a 7 week trip planned to USA (Australia to LA to NY) approx 22
hour flight. I have had mixed feedback from doctors about flying, during this 7 week
period I have another 4 connecting flights within US/Canada. Is this too much flying
when you have DVT and what about my weekly/fortnightly blood tests, I may not
always have access to a doctor due to the places we will be visiting. Is it best I cancel
or postpone my trip? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Hi there. So I've never had a dvt nor does it run in m family. In the past I've had
four negative ultrasounds on my legs ( thigh pain) and numerous d-dimer tests
as well. Yet I still worry I could magically develop one. I'm 23 not on the pill but
do smoke. I'm afraid of having one and not having any symptoms. Can anyone
PLEASE help! My drs just tell me I worry to much but I'd like to hear from
people who have this condition! I have burning in both my legs but mainly my
left leg.

AngioJet for DVT

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with DVT and opted for angiojet rather than more conservative coumadin/warafin treatments? I was just recently discharged after an 8 day hospitalization and drs look at me like I am nuts since I am concerned over clot. I do have a PE in each lung but breathing seems fine.

Any info is appreciated!

a message to Paul "does DVT present symptoms

Hi I recently read a reply from one of the forum members Paul answering the question "Does DVT present symptoms most of the time?" I was really interested in Pauls' answer. Recently I suffered what my doctors believed initially was a mini stroke, after going to the hospital to continue check ups I suffered a massive seizure, that continued to stop and re start, until my body went into shock and shut itself down and I was unresponsive except for my eyes. The doctors had no idea and were treating me for epilepsy, they placed me in an induced coma and put me into Intensive care unit. The doctors continued to check with problems neurologically and found nothing. After two days in the induced coma I was bought out and seized again. Again the doctors had no idea, I was moved out of ICU and placed in a normal ward, with no answers I was sent home to return a week later for further test. On return a CT scan was completed by a cardiologist who discovered two large clots in my lungs, and ... read more

flying after pulmonary embolism

Re: flying while still having dvt

I recently had DVT and the clot ended up breaking away and travelling to my lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism which nearly killed me, I travel on an aircraft longhaul flights twice a week 10+ hour flight each way for work and have no choice as it is my job. I have been in hospital for over a month and just got out recently , I know I have alot of recovery to get through and I am on both clexaine and warfarin. My doctors are telling me that I will probably be safe to return to work and continue these longhaul flights again in one month, but I will be on warfarin for life if I continue to fly. I am concerned about the long term side effects of warfarin useage and hemorraging whilst in the air, are there any studies attributed to flying as much as I do and warfarin side effects? Also is there 100% guarantee that I will not clot again even if I am on warfarin considering the amount of longhaul flying I do, I am afraid to get back on a plane

Possible DVT after flight

I've just flown on business from UK to Australia. I did what I could
to avoid DVT - lots of walking on the flight, compression socks,
didn't wear shoes on the flight, etc. However, shortly after landing I
became aware that my ankle was sore. Initially I put it down to
resting it in a funny position when I did briefly sleep on the flight,
but after 2 days, its now swollen, red and warm to the touch. So

- Does this sound like DVT?
- I assume I need medical attention, but at the moment Im working
quite a distance from civilisation how urgently do I need to get to
a doctor?
- I fly back in 3 weeks assuming it is DVT, is flying again likely
to aggravate it further?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Had a DVT in my leg, left the hopital 10 days, and don't have my first apt my the hemotologist for another week. I have lots of questions, but most importantly I'm wondering if:

-Is a hemotologist the right doctor for this issue?
-And am I better off to get up and move or keep my leg propped up (when I get up my ankle and lower leg seems to swell up).

Hello - I developed an achey/tender feeling in my left calf last week.
It came on suddenly and It did not feel muscular. It wasn't extremely
painful, but I was aware of it when walking and driving etc. I called
NHS Direct about it and they didn't seem too concerned as my leg wasn't
hot. It's two days later now and my leg no longer feels sore. I
basically want to know, with DVT, would the leg remain sore? I'm worried
that I'm going to collapse in a few days!!! I would really appreciate
any advice anyone could give me. Many thanks

DVT Specialist in Los Angeles?

Does anyone have any recommendations to offer regarding a DVT specialist in Southern California?

I was diagnosed three weeks ago: right leg, running from calf up to pelvis. I'm on Warfarin now and I'm doing OK with regard to pain. Swelling is definitely still present, though not as much as at the time of diagnosis.

I don't have any complaints per se about my doctor's treatment so far, but still it seems like it might be a good idea to pursue a second opinion on my treatment course from someone who specializes in this area.

I'm 21 years old and had a below-knee DVT after having arthroscopic knee surgery. I've been off coumadin for a 5 weeks now and I am still wearing compression stockings (which I hate...). I'm noticing that my affected leg is darker than the other and still has random pain every now and then. Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it last?

So it was been 5 weeks since my DVT (Lilac ((Sp?)) ). It was from my ankle to groin. I have worn compression stockings every day since going to the hospital. I have been taking Coumadin 5 mg 5 days a week and 2.5 mg 2 days a week. The swelling in my leg is 95% gone. It is not painful to walk. Long distances can be a strain on the leg muscles because they have not been used as much in the last month. Over the last few days, I am experiencing odd symptoms. It seems I can get a pain where the leg meets the groin and in different places on my left leg. My left leg is still a bit discolored, it is slightly red. It seems two hours after my coumadim dose at 6 pm, my left foot starts to feel hot and gets quite red in the toes. I can get the pins a needles effect in the leg as well. Sitting down at work is the worst, even if I keep my leg up. I get up and go on walks a few times a day 1/8 mile and everything feels fine .. nothing seems to be swelling. It just seems like I was doing better in... read more
