One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Warfarin Hangover

Anyone have any ideas on getting rid of the Warfarin hangover I suffer every morning? My Hemotologist recommends Tylenol, but I don't like to take that. Every morning my head aches and it feels funny, and I get mild head aches at a various times throughout the day. It's a weird feeling, something I've never experienced prior to taking Warfarin.

Travel with DVT

I looking for opinions here ...
I've had swollen/pain in my calf for about 5 weeks and was diagnosed with DVT a week ago. If I don't walk too much during the day, the swelling goes completely away and I feel no pain whatsoever. I'm on 6mg Warfarin (INR monitored daily).
Now, the dilemma is that next week I'm suppose to fly away for a week long vacation to Dominican rep. My doctor isn't too thrilled, and wants me to stay. Would it be really so risky, if I went and take it easy over there?
Any comments appreciated...

DVT - Can clots recurr?

Hi
I got a small clot in my right calf as a result of flying long haul. The clot was small and I was on warfarin for three months. I have now come off warfarin but my right leg aches and is painful if I sit at my desk for too long. I am worried the clot may have come back. The ultra sound showed it to be very small and the specialist I saw said that the clot should be gone as I exercise a lot and took warfarin. I am not sure if I should go back and get my leg checked again. When I first got the clot the pain in may leg was sharp now it is more like an ache?
any one else had this experience?

Persistent swelling in leg with dvt

I have had several blood clots in the past 6 years, the hospital that I
am currently using for treatment has gotten to the point of turning me
away because I can not afford health care and I have so many reoccurring
clots. I have been trying to treat this at home in the same manner they
do at the hospital. Warfarin, lovenox and ibuprophin. I elevate and use
heat compression several times a day. I had all the medications already
from the last clot that was treated a few months ago. Now my leg has
swollen about 3 times its normal size and I can not wear a shoe due to
the swelling in my foot. Any suggestions would be great.

Coumadin dose and clotting disorder

I've been on Coumadin for a few months now and am taking alternating doses of 10mg and 11.5mg per day. From what I've read and heard this is a rather high dose. I have tested high for Factor VIII and am wondering if this is the cause for why I have to take a high dose. Does anyone with a clotting disorder see it affect your Coumadin levels, or alternatively, does anyone else take a high dose but not have a disorder? Thanks.

Coming off Warfarin

Hi

I've been on Warfarin for 6 months following a PE. My doctor has told me to just stop taking it as there is no evidence that weaning off the drug makes any difference. This seems odd to me as it took them about 4 months to get the level right, and I am on 13mg a day. Surely as soon as I stop taking it my INV will plummet right down again? What is other people's experience of coming off?

Ive taken two long car rides one on Friday and one today. The first one was
13 hours and the one today was about 10. I got out several times and
walked around and have also taken out asprin throughout the day. My left
thigh is kind of burning feeling and down the back feels sore. If I pull my
knee to my chest I get pain down the back. I've had 4 dopplers done in the
past which have all been negative as well as negative d dimer tests. I have a
phobia. Should I be worried now?

Is there a solution to damaged femoral veins?

Hello,

My name is Terry & the femoral veins in both legs were badly damaged
many years ago. I'm 35 at the moment & suffer greatly with my legs to
the point where I am no longer able to work & have walking
difficulties. My vascular surgeon told me 4 years ago that nothing can
be done & I just have to try & manage the problem as best as possible.
I wear class 3 compression hosiery all the time which make a slight
difference.
The thing is though 20 minutes on my feet & my legs greatly swell up,
I suffer bad ulcers, muscle fatigue in the legs & pains.
I am on a life long prescription for Clexane (Enoxaparin)because
whenever it is stopped I develop another clot.
It's really ruined my life & is getting me down. Is there any type of
corrective surgery or some type of grafting that can be done to the
damaged areas of the veins or even a vein replacement?
I've read posts about veins from cadavers or artificial ones & even
now veins been grown in labs.

DVT after spinal fusion

I had a anterior lumbar interbody fusion/posterior lumbar interbody fusion on Feb. 1. For the first 4 days I was on heparin and then sent home with TED hose to wear for the next week until I was able to walk around more. Flash forward 8 weeks. I have been having loss of sensation in my pinky toe on my right leg along with swelling of my calf and foot, especially when I am walking around. My ortho surgeon's P.A. called me back today and told me that it was nothing to worry about unless my calf started to hurt really bad and was red/hot. Should I be more concerned? I know that ortho surgical patients are more prone to DVTs. I can't find any other reason why my leg/foot would be swelling. Thanks in advance for your help!!

DVT and Protein S and C Deficiency

Protein C and S deficiency can cause DVT. If you're having DVT for no apparent reason, try to check this protein letters. This is congenital so if you have this deficiency, your siblings may have it too. My three sisters were saved from pregnancy complications due to DVT because they already knew they have Protein letters deficiency.

Am i just paranoid?

I started taking the pill (yasmin) about four months ago. 8 weeks after taking the pill i was woken up late at night by a extremely painful throbbing in my right calf. The throbbing occured for a few minutes and the calf felt tense and painful for two days.

I did go to see the doctor who said that it was unlikely to be DVT since there was no swelling. The doctor said it was probably a muscle cramp (which i have never experienced before). I was told an ultrasound was not necessary and to continue to take the pill.

I have not experienced any pain since and still on Yasmin. Can anyone give any advice on this? Do you think I should see another doctor or just wait to see if i get any other symptoms?

I had swelling and severe pain in the back of my knee 6 months ago. My doctor ordered a Doppler which revealed a DVT. I spent one week in the hospital on Heperin and Warfarin, and then have been 6 months on Warfarin. My INRs are done every week...and my ranges are varied. Sometimes I am very high...and then I will be low. I follow the no green diet, which I hate...because I am a big fan of salads, but I can do it if it would save my life. I thought all was doing better when I had a repeat Doppler, which revealed an old clot and several new smaller clots. I have not been evaluated for anything other than blood thinners. It was suggested to me to go on Lovonex shots everyday. I am wondering when I should be sent to a hematologist or somebody besides my general practise doctor? A little worried. I am 48, overweight female, diabetic, as well as epileptic, with a history of a very severe injury to the left side due to a horseback riding accident. I am still in constant pain a... read more

Positive for Lupus Anticoagulant

Hi, I'm new here. I have tested positive twice now for Lupus Anticoagulant but negative for ANA's. I have a raised C-Reactive Protein & ESR. Dr wants to retest me in 6 weeks for lupus anticoagulant again. I know due to not testing positive for ANA, I don't have Lupus (she says). The reason for the initial testing was for a possible DVT which I didn't have. I'm so scared of developing a DVT due to me having a sedentary job, I am tied to a computer/desk for 8 hours per day & only get up in my breaks so constantly try to stretch my legs while at the desk to keep my blood flowing as I am very overweight. I have done so much research to find out if lupus anticoagulant can be false positive in overweight people or what can cause it. I have a large haematoma on my upper thigh caused from wearing a full leg cast for 8 months back in 1985 which they said they could never drain so I've put up with it but in the past week, it's become very sore with my whole left leg being sore & swolle... read more

Hi, I was diagnosed with Massive PE in Sep'10 ( reason unknown) , had a month's stay
in hospital with 3 week treatment of heparin and followup of Warfarin till March 2011
(usual dosage was 6mg and 7.5mg alternate day to maintain INR ) In March got my
CT scan done and all signs of PE were cleared, now I'm planning to take a 15-16 hr
long haul from Karachi-Pakistan to LA-USA with two weeks of travel within US and
return from NY to Pakistan another 14 hr flight . I need some suggestions/advice as
will this travel be feasible for me . My doctor has given me clearance to travel with
advice to take walks during the flight but my family is in doubts.

I have been having pain in my chest especially when when I take a deep breathand lightheaness since last night, I went to the ER today they did blood work, chest xray, and EKG. They wound up giving me a shot for pain and a shot of Ativan for anxiety and that was it they didn't seem all concerned and my impression was they wanted me out of there. Neither one of the meds has helped could this be Pulmonary Embolism? I had a CT scan at a different hospital of my chest?/belly if I do have one wouldn't it have shown up on the CT scan? Should I go back and demand another CT scan?
