DVT deep vein thrombosis forum

One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Has anyone come off coumadin in 4 months post clot? I was diagnosised with a clot in my left leg in May 2007 and going for a follow up doppler on Monday if that shows no clot, The doc says I can come off, but everything I have been reading no one has come off so early. Little nervous.

Has anyone else been experiencing this? It has been getting really bad. I noticed it started when I went back on my coumadine. My husband says I was like this last time I was on it. I hate to think I am losing it already, I am only 27!I will ask the doctor about it next time, but I don't want to sound crazy. Just wondering if I am alone?

my mom 55 years old hading a chronic HCV infection and liver cirrhosis with chronic portal vein thrombosis and portal
hypertension...she is also a renal transplant since 18 years ago,
diabetic and hypertensive with chronic atrial fibrillation..
now she has an esophageal varicoses.
she supposed to do liver transplantation..but the thrombosis
considered as a major contraindication for it.
we are now in turkey and she is taking anticoagulants ( heparin )
and there is no any filters or operation had been done.
and I think the doctors will not do any thing about the thrombosis
other than giving heparin...
so I want to ask If any operation ( like rex shunt procedure) or
using fibrinolytics ( such as streptokinase ) or other things that can
be helpful ???

THANK YOU

Doctors and nurses have given me conflicting opinions on the impact of a hot
bath on the dvt leg. Some say fine others say no. Is anbody armed with the true
facts related to this as it is a point many of us must ponder at times. I have
always considered a hot bath to be good for aching muscles after excercise but
post dvt not sure. Any knowledge/experience you can share would be
appreciated

Hey--

A question: Will a D-Dimer test show definitely whether I'm suffering
from DVT or not, or at the very least, does a normal D-Dimer result rule
out Pulmonary Embolism?

UK Support Group/Society?

Hi everyone,

Before I start, does anyone know of a UK support group or society? I can't find 1 and if there isn't 1 I was wondering if people would be interested if I looked into forming 1?

Whilst i would not want to detract from this excellent site, i think it would be nice to start a group who are all dealing with the UK health service/NHS-together we may be able to improve our treatment and awareness of DVT and related illness. I'm sure many of you are also frustrated at the lack of awareness in general about it. Also, I thought it would be good to arrange social meetings (with facilities for all to keep our legs raised!!!) to discuss our issues and support each other in person.

I'd be grateful if you'd let me know what you think

Cheers for now!

Jacuzzi / sauna after DVT

Hi,
it's now over four months since my DVT was first diagnosed. It is in my left hand
side from groin (iliac vein) to below my knee and is probably still as big as ever
given that an ultrasound in early January showed it still looking exactly the same
as back in September. I would like to know if it is safe for me to use a jacuzzi
and/or sauna - I'm in generally good health now and have recently resumed
going to the gym. I tried asking my GP but he didn't really know so wondered if
anyone else has had any advice around this?

Hi--

20 year old male here. Have been taking Toprol for 3 years for SVT
(Super Ventricular Tachycardia). Toprol normally works fine--usually
no heart issues whatsoever while on it. I've also been on Xanax since
last January, and the Xanax's powerful side effects and withdrawals
brought on by physical tolerance to it have led me to be increasingly
immobile, combined with a very Vitamin K high diet plus family history
of strokes and heart attacks.

About last summer, I suddenly developed terrible pain in the left leg.
I went to the local GP and he felt my leg--the hard rope like veins--
and said I had Superficial Phlebitis. Sent me to the hospital for an
ultrasound, and they just said I had a minor vein issue--nothing
severe. I still had pain and decided to go to a vascular specialist.
Ultrasound performed around August revealed terrible varicose veins,
worse in the left leg. They said I should get support stockings and
have an electric ablation surgery. ... read more

Has anyone ever tried anything like this (go to link)
http://www.footsmart.com/P-FootSmart-Calf-Support-30042.aspx

How far out (after onset) did you use it? Did it work (like a compression stocking).

If it does I was thinking I could wear this in the summer with capris.
Anyone know of a compression stockings with no feet for summer?

Can I fly long haul after DVT?

I got a DVT in pregnancy which went into both lungs. I was on Tinzaparin injections for 8 months, until my baby was 3 months old. I was advised at the hospital not to take flights with a longer than 3 hours duration.
Is this true? To date it hasn't been an issue but my little boy is getting older now and we'd like to go further afield - just not as far as heaven!!!
I'd love to hear people's views on this
Many thanks

I had a DVT IN August (ankle to groin) and after a recnt ultrasound hae found that there is still some of the clot there (in my thigh. I was told by my consultant to go to my GP and get some stockings. The nurse perscribed below the knee stockings. Is this correct I thought that I would need the thigh high ones as the clot is above the knee? Als is class 2 (18-24mm Hg) correct? Many thanks
