One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

I woke up 5 days ago with pain on my inner left thigh - I'd been out partying the night
before and assumed that I'd bruised it somehow when I was drunk and didn't think too
much of it. The pain is quite intense, especially if I've been sat for a while. The area is
tender to touch but there doesn't seem to be much swelling. I think it's starting to
slowly turn slightly purple. It's a little warmer than the other leg but not 'hot'. I can feel
something more present under the skin in this leg than my other but I don't know if it's
a vein or a muscle. It's not itchy.

I'm 30, male, my maternal uncle has varicose veins (but I don't know if he has DVT?) but
other than that theres no family history that I know of. I smoke, but have only smoked
for a couple of years and not always regularly.

I'm currently abroad and my travel insurance just expired. I'm pretty much broke and the
money I have is just enough money to get me a flight home so I'm torn on whether to... read more

Was your clot pain constant or intermittent?

Hi everyone. I've been having intermittent pain in my leg for about a
month and a half and the doctors don't really have an explanation.

I would say it's there about 75% of the time, but in different points
in my leg i.e. the calf, the shin, groin and top of instep/foot. Which
is weird. Because I don't know if clot pain would be there all the
time, or come and go.

It feels like a stabbing or shooting point and is about 8/10 for pain.
Walking around actually helps it, but sitting on a hard chair,
crossing my legs or doing anything which alters the circulation brings
on the pain.

I am quite worried I could have a clot. But I have had two normal d
dimers in the past month (recent one was lower than the first) and had
an ultrasound about 2 months ago (before the pain started) that came
back clear. I have heard of people having negative tests but I don't
really have any risk factors apart from working at a pc 8 hours a day,
which is a biggie i guess. I don... read more

Possible DVT?

I've had this constant fear of a DVT over the past three weeks now. It
started on January 30th, a day after I ran for a good hour and a half on the
treadmill. The next day my right calf was killing me. It continued to hurt for
the next few days until I decided to go to the ER Thursday February 2nd.
They squeezed my leg, no pain, no swelling, just a really sore calf. They did
a doppler ultrasound that came back negative. The soreness kind of
subsided as I went on vacation for a week. February 17th I went to the ER
because I thought I had PE, they did an xray that came back negative. The
doctor also said they did a blood test for clots which I assumed was a d-
dimer test? He came back and said I was in the clear of PE, but does that
mean I'm in the clear of DVT? I wouldn't really consider it pain even, just
soreness that kind of stretches from my achilles to the back of my knee. No
swelling that I notice. No redness or warmth, and no tender spots to touch.

I am glad I found this fourm. I was in a car wreck on 9-2013. Went through P.T. for 3 months. A 1 1/2 weeks before Christmas I was in real bad leg pain. I couldn't even walk 100ft w/out crying. i had no clue what was going on. Well my wife told me we are going to see a Dr. Boom, I was admitted. Went to 3 different hospitals. The last which is Carle Hospital in Champaign,Il. It was so bad that the head of the Vasculer dept couldn't believe I was still alive. Well 2 weeks later and 5 trips to the O.R. the DVT was gone. It was so bad that the Dr. said on a followup visit that he had 3 Drs. fly in to Chicago. If he couldn't get it done they were going to drain my blood and clean it. He went through my left leg and my right neck. Today i still have pain and trouble walking sometimes. The good news is I do 5k races. I don't run but speed walk. My first one was in 2015. I did 3 that year. Last year I did 6. I am going to the 10k in the Illinois Marthon. I am saying this because there is li... read more

back/abdominal pain IVC Filter failed removal

Hi guys. I've been reading this forum since I had my dvt in late July. I'm 27 and
everything has been fine after I went through 2 thrombolisis procedures, and have
full function of my right leg again. I also found out I have the Factor Five Leiden

My question today is about extreme back pain after a IVC filter retrieval. My
vascular surgeon attempted to remove my IVC filter yesterday morning - what
should have taken 45 minutes took 3 hours, and he even brought in another
surgeon to try to remove the filter, with no success. So my vas. surgeon said with
my factor five history it's more likely that I'll clot again, so he thought it better that
they just leave it in since they couldn't get it out. I have been in extreme back and
abdominal pain since my procedure yesterday - I called my vas. surgeon and his
nurse said it was normal and to take motrin and it should subside. I can't even walk
for any length of time without wanting to fall on the floo... read more

I was just diagnosed with May Thurners Syndrome and I am 30 years old. I was 32
weeks pregnant walking 6 miles a day as well as doing Pure Barre. I went to the
hospital because my upper thigh was swollen and discolored. They did MRI and
ultra sound. They said it was nothing and to keep moving. Overnight my leg
tripled in size. I went to Emergency next morning. They did another ultrasound
and found the blood clot. They did thrombocytopenia while I was pregnant and
cleared 300cc of clot. The next day my leg ached they did another ultrasound and
the clot was back. They put a filter in and induced me. I gave birth to healthy baby
but she had to stay in nicu for a few weeks. After I delivered I had to wait 5 days
to get my leg worked on in icu. They did tpa drip, balloons and finally put 4 stents
in. It's been 2 weeks post surgery. My leg is still swollen but not as bad and
tingles at my foot. I can't walk long until it starts to cramp. Do you know what the

DVT/PE sufferer. No direct cause was ever found. Based on CT scan
and ultrasound test, hematologist says after 3 months the clots
are gone. I can go off blood thinners and start on aspirin. My
cardiologist/vascular dude says stay on thinners for 6 months
since the cause is still unknown.

My question is who do I trust? I tend to believe the cardiologist
since I still have un-explained symptoms.

Any ideas???

When I started I had Shortness of breath but it went away after a
number of day. When tried to stop I had the same shortness of
breath. It worried me so I went back to my normal dose and breathing
went back to normal.

My question is if you experience on of the below issues how long did
it take to go away.
From what I can tell everyone has a different experience when they
stop taking warfarin. Some people don't experience anything other
have one or more of the following:
Servere chest pains
Short of breath
hair loss
Servere rash
pain in both legs
servere dizziness (like hes under water and going to faint)
always tired
pressure headaches
ears popping
cloudiness in the head
numbness in hands and lips
pain in both feet
feeling drained all of the time

I am 30 yr old female, weight is 135,don't smoke and don't drink. My left legs hurts really bad. Started numbness and tingling in butt from sitting on chair at computer. Then pain was in the crease of bottom of left butt cheak. As time went on the pain went further down. It hurts now to sit on my butt on the chair and pain, tingling and soreness goes down my whole left leg now. Been happening for about 4days now. When i stretch out my calf it feels like the muscle been stretched too far already. I have not gotten hurt or did any thing to hurt my leg.
Sometimes i get sharp pains in my leg. There is no swelling, reddness or skin that feels hot. Although sometimes it feels warm on the inside. It hurts to push on certain areas on the back of my thigh and down. Skin feels very sensitive to touch. Like having the flu.

After 2 DVTs and a recent change in my INR I have progressed to thigh high compression stockings on both legs. My INR went fron 2.8 -3.0 to a 1.5 then on follow up test 1.2 back to base line. No diet change just change in activity level. increase in movement. Have had me on Lovinox injection to bridge the gap until INR gets stabilized. Went from 5 mg to 7.5 daily of Wasfarin. Now getting rechecked in about 5 days. Have minor swelling in left leg no pain or DVT and moderate swelling in R leg Post DVT with discoloration. Told venious insuffiency. How long do they keep you in compression stockings. Being an active person, or try to be how can I make these things a little more comfortable. Told to put on before I get outta bed in the morning and take off last thing at night when possible, I have 20-30 comp with the silcone band at the thigh. For now i can deal with the silicone but the hair pulling drives me nuts. Do I have any choices besides the obvious one. I hope the lad... read more

Coming off Warfarin

I have been advised this week that I am to stop taking warfarin from
next Tuesday. After 6 weeks (this is the length of time I was told it
takes to clear my system), I will need to have a full blood check to
look for any genetic disorders etc.
I have been on warfarin since January this year, and although I am
'looking forward' to identifying the likely cause of my clotting
issues, I do have some trepidation about the sudden ending of my
medication. Will there be any noticeable 'cold turkey' symptoms or
contra- indications ? I am wearing compression stockings as instructed
and will continue my rather gentle walking regime at the gym- do you
know if it's safe to use the vibration equipment to improve my
I have also been instructed to eliminate the risk factor associated
with driving up to 1000 miles per week for my job- so I am either
going to work from home, or if that is not considered a feasible
option, I will have to take long-term paid sic... read more

intermittent pain on outside of right calf - s

Started December 20, 2008
I've just been reading messages on blood clots on this forum because I have been experiencing several times a day, a dull ache/pinching feeling sensation in right calf, on the outside and always in the same spot.

I have not been to a doctor and I am not taking any drugs at all.

What I have noticed is that the 'pinching/pulling' sensation happens in exactly the same place on the outside calf area and only the right leg. After a few times I marked a X on the area with a biro and it's always that same place!

I usually feel it when I'm sitting at the PC where most of my work is done or if I sit with my leg on a chair. I don't really feel it the same when standing or walking so is there anyone else with similar syptoms please?

My worst fears are a blood clot but there is no swelling, no redness and no warmth, which seems to be possible symptoms and the pain is what I would call fairly minor, but is intermittent and never lasts for long.

Someone said it might be nerve rel... read more

I had to be taken off Lovenox last week because
my liver enzymes continued to elevate. Put on Arixtra
until INR gets back to 2-3 range.
If it helps anyone else although its rare...make sure your
doctor checks your liver enzymes while on Lovenox.
Within a few days my levels have come back down to normal range.

Hello my name is patricia and I am currently in hospital in penang Malaysia, where I developed a clot in my right calf one week after surgery. My calf swelled up and I could only walk on tip toe. I went back to the surgeon of the initial surgery who immedediately referred me to another Dr in the hospital. (I dont know what kind, guessing vascular surgeon? - I cant believe I dont know this) He was going into surgery but had a quick look and did an ultrasound. He told me he couldnt see my veins (???!) and that he was admitting me to hosp. I was put on an IV of Heparin and started on Warfarin pills. My calf immediately subsided although was still sore to touch, this is my fourth day in hosp, and my leg looks like a leg again. I have a not too bad pain behind my knee but otherwise can walk fairly well. The doc took blood tests and said dvt was confirmed, and another test today which confirmed I could come off the IV of heparin and be given two injections instead. I tried asking what thi... read more

Questions to ask Hematologist ?

Hi all... have not posted in awhile - my case: July '06 DVT knee to groin, multiple PE's both lungs after knee injury & immobility / birth control pills (do not smoke, healthy weight, 25 years old etc.)

I still have chest pain quite frequently - esp. after activity. Went for a follow-up CT Scan / EKG a couple weeks ago and all clear no new clots and old clots are all gone. YAAY what a relief - only explanation for chest pain has been "chest wall inflammation" which I don't understand.

I'm still on coumadin (8th month now) for my DVT - leg still turns blue / tingles / red "lace" patterns on calf but there is next to no swelling or pain. I never actually had any swelling with my DVT (very lucky here). I still wear good compression stockings every day to help with tingling / colour changes.

OKAY so now my question! I have an appt. on April 2 with a Hematologist to see if I have any genetic / hormonal clotting factors. If it turns out there is nothing then I can stop c... read more

You ought to incorporate

You ought to incorporate a hair stimulant, for example, Minoxidil
into your male pattern baldness program. This is a FDA endorsed
fixing that has been clinically demonstrated to regrow your hair.
You ought to likewise incorporate certain vitamins and minerals
that help your hair in maintaing sound capacities, for example,
regrowth. I would propose investigating natural male pattern
baldness items since a couple key items contain these
methodologies you ought to take in treating your hair, across the
board bundle. From the client input I've perused about these sorts
of items, many were raving on the outcomes they saw.

Just wondering if anyone is taking Xarelto instead of the other more common blood thinners. I was on Coumadin for several months after having my chronic (2 year old) dvt removed and stented and since January have been on xarelto. I feel 100% better on this newer blood thinner and I am symptom free. The Coumadin made me tired, bruised and caused severe hair loss. The switch to xarelto was my hematologist idea. He said it is as good at preventing clots as Coumadin. I know there is currently no known reversal agent but I live a pretty low risk lifestyle so for me it is worth the risk.

I have been on it everyday since January 2013 and plan on taking it for at least another year...maybe longer. Has anyone else been put on this for dvt prevention? If so have you had any side effects?
