One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

I have an extensive DVT in my left leg. I have been on lovenox injections for almost 7 months and wear compression hose daily. The swelling has decrease a lot from day one and I have absolutely no pain. My question is will I get pain this far into a DVT. I have been reading the post and it seems that most people with dvts have pain I'm just wondering if I can expect pain after stopping lovenox or will I be fortunate enough to not experience it at all?

I was treated for dvt on my left leg and was on warfarin for a few months and everything was ok, then all of a sudden my pain has come back with the top of my left leg haveing shooting pains up and down. The blood clot they have removed by useing drugs did damage my artery for the blood to go through and the horrible shooting pain in my left leg is getting worse. The circulation is very bad on my left leg and i do take one aspirin everyday to make my blood thinner which does help. But when i walk for long periods my leg does hurt lots. Should i go and see a vascular specialist to sort my leg out and can my clot be removed again and also can my artery be repaired in my leg which was damaged by the blood clot before. Realy need some advise on this please help? Circulation in my leg is very bad.

Intermittant calf pain

Hi,
After one DVT about a year ago I am experiencing calf pain again but its sort of intermittant. It has got worse over the past few days even though I have had some problems since a superficial clot in the same leg about 4 months ago. Last night it was extremely painful, but this morning it seems not so bad again. I am wondering if this is more PTS than a DVT but I would like to know how you experienced your pain with DVT. I cant quite remember my last DVT but I think it was worst when I got up from resting but maybe more constant than this. Then I can go sort of all day without it hurting but it will get bad again in the evening.

So did anyone else have this intermittant pain which gets better once you have been walking on it for a while possibly worse in the evening or does it sound more like PTS?

Heparin and PTT Levels

Hello Everyone, what an informative forum! I am currently 33 weeks pregnant and I
sustained an ankle fracture 6 weeks ago when I slipped on the ice. This week I
developed a DVT. I was hospitalized for several days on IV heparin. While I was in
the hospital, we followed by PTT levels to ensure that I was "thinned," and it was
suppose to be >60. Now I am home on heparin shots 10,000units 3x a day. I had my
first level drawn and it was in the normal range at 27! Anyone know what the heck
that means??? It seems like I am no longer anti-coagulated. I really just don't want
to be re-hospitalized. How often will they check levels? Any info will be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Hi there. Ive been suffering with pereoneal and achillies tendonitus. My leg has
been immobilised for 4months in a boot and for the last 3weeks in a plaster
cast. As soon as the plaster came off my calf was very painful, felt like id badly
pulled a muscle. Its a week since the plaster has come off, the pain in my calf
is still there although not as bad. I dont have any redness etc, but having seen
the news this morning about serena Williams havinga blood clot, i have been
readingup on it, im abit worried. I called the physio and she asked if i had any
redness, she advised me to see gp if i was worried. How long does it take for
symptoms of dvt to become apparant? How do i no i have dvt? Wat are the
symptoms of dvt? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you

I really hate this time of year when it comes to clothing! im 33, suffered 3 DVTs 3 years ago and still have swelling and pain in my leg. has anyone seen the juzo footless tights? i live in the uk and struggle financially, the NHS precribe great stockings for winter but obviously are not thinking along the fashion side of post DVT for summer months! im extremely greatful for the NHS but have found myself ordering stockings from the USA as my largest DVT was around my groin in the femeral vein, im now starting to suffer with bulging veins around my groin so really need to wear waist high stockings, hence thinking the juzo soft leggings would be my best choice for summer, but i cant find a uk supplier and cant afford to pay the shipping costs! can anyone help with a UK supplier?

torn acl and clots

In 2009 my brother developed a clot in his right leg after a period of inactivity following a job loss. A filter was put in and the clot was busted up. He was on coumadin for six months and then the doctor took him off it.

On Christmas Eve of 2010 he fell while at work and tore his meniscus. His leg was immobilized and of course he developed another clot which was misdiagagnosed for a week -- during that time the clot moved and became bigger, extending from his knee to his groin area. It's been a month since the clot was treated and doctors will sitll not give him the ok for the knee surgery. (He's on coumadin again.) He's had to stay in a rehab place because he lives with my elderly mother who can not manage him on his own.

Anyone else have their surgery delayed becasue of this? We're wondering if my brother is ever going to get through this.

Help, I miss exercising so much, gone from being active everyday to be scared to do anything that might make it worse. I am on warfarin 6mg each day, after reading posts I will be wearing the stocking if only to help with the swelling. My DVT went from my pelvis to my ankle, it has now settled at my ankle, it swells & hurts if I am on it for too long. But am finding swimming seems to help as I have no pressure on it. What else can I do to lose the weight I have suddenly gained. Very depressed Thanks

Confused about when to stop

Hi again.
I had a dvt that occluded my left calf back in September, 2010. My INR has not been stable the whole time :(
Back to doctor today for another INR. I asked when i will be stopping and she said in a month. She also said I do not need a scan? But do i? She also said that you just wait and see how you feel.
Both my parents have had multiple DVT's and I asked about getting tested for hereditary problems. She told me that I should wait for a few months after being off warfarin to test for these. But doesn't warfarin only take 5 days to come out of your system?? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks :)

Antiphospholipid Syndrome - Tests

Anybody out there knowledgeable about the tests for APS? My bloodwork, done right before I was started on Heparin showed borderline high for DRVVT (Russell's Viper Venom), which was dismissed on the lab report as "of doubtful clinical significance". But I don't see that they did a test for LA-PTT, just one for APTT.

Three months post DVT and I've suddenly got a whopping case of vertigo with migraines, going on for 3-4 weeks now. Always had trouble w/migraines, had pre-eclampsia, and multiple miscarriages and some of the other symptoms which makes me think APS. Anybody know if I need to ask for some repeat bloodwork?

I am currently 22 weeks pregnant, have been experiencing mild to
moderate right calf pain for over two months, sometimes it goes up
into the back of my thigh. It feels like a mix of muscle ache, cramp,
stiffness and burning/tingling. The affected calf is slightly larger
than the other one (.5 inch or less) but it might be that way
normally, and it's not red or warm or hard to the touch. I mentioned
it to my OB in January and she reluctantly sent me for an ultrasound
which was negative for DVT. But now almost 2 months later I have the
same pain. Some days it's a little better, but overall it's gotten
worse since January. I haven't changed my exercise habits or anything
that would cause excess muscle soreness. Should I see a different
doctor about this or not worry about it? Does it sound like it could
be DVT in spite of the negative ultrasound? I was sort of surprised
that the ultrasound didn't cover my mid and lower calf, which is where

Clot buster 2 months after DVT diagnosis?

I was diagnosed with DVT of the left leg from my knee to my belly button July 31, 08. I visited with an Intervention Radiologist this week and he feels that we should do a Venogram to rule out May-Thurner syndrome and do the clot buster (tPA). I hope the clot isn't too hardened and it works. If he does confirm May-Thurner he wants to place a stent. I wondered if I needed a IVC filter and he does not believe it is indicated.
He scheduled me for this Monday, Oct 6th, and took my Warfarin away until after the procedure. He'll be going in through the popliteal vein and I'm a bit nervous, scared to do it and scared not to do it...
He said he will attempt to give me a better quality of life for my remaining years since I'm just 45. I'd love to hear from you guys who have had this done because as you know, we're almost always afraid of the unknown. And you guys that have been dealing with this stuff for years?? You're real troopers......

I am 30 weeks and was diagnosed with a DVT in my lower calf, right below the knee. After a trip to the ER I was given a shot of 90ml of Lovenox, then my midwife prescribed to me 30ml a day. It seemed to get worse, and when I called her she told me that she wasn't really sure of the dosage I should be on and sent me to the a bigger ER, after the radiologist and the ER Dr. telling me that it is not a very big clot and that they are not to worried about it, and that is most likely why I was only given 30ml of Lovenox, he came in and told me that they had changed there mind and that I need to be on 90ML twice a day. I feel like my midwife has no idea what she is talking about, but the ER Dr said that she would be fine, because she is sending me to a DVT clinic tomorrow.

I am just really frustrated (no insurance, and I think this week will officially bankrupt us.) If anyone has gone through with this before, do you think that a midwife will do fine with the complications that come wit... read more

I thought this article from the MD News might be of interest to some. It's still a very new procedure, and still in trial phase, but for those of us with deep vein reflux/CVI it might become a possability if it becomes more widly used.

Let me know if the link doesn't work, amd I'll try to post the full text.

I have had 2 follow up doppler ultrascans because the DR thought I might have a new clot BUT nothing was found in either! I've tried the compression stockings too & it doesnt seem to help any! Is anyone still experiencing issues this long afterwards? What is your doctor saying? Is there any relief?

Snowboarding with a clot

My husband has dvt. He recently was diagnosed with 2 clots in his left leg while on a pretty high dose of warfin. They changed his meds from warfin to alextra, an injection. He has to remain on this from here on out. We have a snowboarding trip scheduled for presidents day with his family. I'm very concerned for his welfare on this trip. I was just hoping to get some feedback on what you all think. Is it safe while he still has the clots? His doctors said it takes a few months to disolve them. This happened about 2 weeks ago. Also the high dose of blood thinners concern me if he has a bad fall.Thanks.
