One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

I have had slight shortness of breath and some chest discomfort. I went to the doctor they did a chest xray, a cat scan, an ekg and lots of blood work and didn't find anything. My heart rate is alittle high and my blood pressure is a little high. They think it may be anxiety? any opinions on this? and are there any other tests they can do?

I knew the people on this forum would understand my anxiety. I have had at least two superficial clots and one deep clot in different veins in my left leg over the past 7 years. I am not currently on coumadin, and am awaiting results of blood disorder testing. The latest episode was a superficial clot about halfway down my shin two months ago, and the clot is finally dissolved. Yesterday I slipped on ice in the parking lot of the school that I work at. I was "graceful" enough to land in the knealing position...square on my left knee/shin. Nothing is broken (thankfully), but I still have a fair amount of bruising on my shin. I am scared to death of another clot forming...even though it's unlikely, I can't help but be paranoid! I guess there's not really a question here...but I needed to tell my story to people that know what I'm feeling.

Got mine Christmas Eve 2010,,,I recommend Compression hose 30/40 pressure,,I got them right after I got out of the 4 day stay at the hospital. It has been 7 weeks for me and my leg is still about 1 inch bigger then my other one :( Hoping within 3 to 4 months the swelling will be gone,,,seems like the recovery is so long..ugggg,,,I am walking fast and riding a station bike and walking normal,,Soon as the pain went away I started walking around the block and it took me some time to walk normal again,,I got a good pair of workout shoes and that helped me walk normal again,,,but the more I exercise the better my leg gets ,,even though it feels weird when I do exercise,,doctor told me to push it! Good luck everyone!!

I have had right leg pain off and on for over two months now had the leg ultrasound no clot was found and reccently I began experiencing chest pain, and pain in my right side and sometimes left side, and a cough that comes and goes. I have had D Diner tests done all negative and I had a ABG gas blood test done the other day when I went to the ER cause I had trouble breathing which showed my oxygen levels were great and it turned out to be a really bad panic attack. My doctor suspects the chest and right side pain are due to my gallbladder since it hurts so bad when she presses on my right side. But could it be a PE? Or should I just relax and trust my doctor since the D Dimer tests and ABG gas blood test were normal?

Pain again and pregnant

Hi, Can anyone help out please. I am having pain again, stinging, burning and very tender to touch in my calf.
DVT Jan 2010 (3 months after birth of daughter. No cause found)
Superficial Thrombosis December 2010 (described as `chronic')

I have just found out I am about 5 weeks pregnant. Havent been to the Dr yet as can't get a appointment until Thursday.

Anyway, I have been having tenderness in my calf on and off since the ST about 8 weeks ago but now it has got worse especially when I get up after resting. It is in the same place as my previous DVT and SP (Right calf)

I am wondering if there is an increased risk of thrombosis this early in pregnancy or if what I am experiencing iS possibly PTS. My calf has always been tender since the DVT but got more so after the ST.

Also sometimes it feels as though I have `twisted' my knee or it suddenly goes on me.

I am obviously not on any anticoags at the moment.

I am 30 weeks and was diagnosed with a DVT in my lower calf, right below the knee. After a trip to the ER I was given a shot of 90ml of Lovenox, then my midwife prescribed to me 30ml a day. It seemed to get worse, and when I called her she told me that she wasn't really sure of the dosage I should be on and sent me to the a bigger ER, after the radiologist and the ER Dr. telling me that it is not a very big clot and that they are not to worried about it, and that is most likely why I was only given 30ml of Lovenox, he came in and told me that they had changed there mind and that I need to be on 90ML twice a day. I feel like my midwife has no idea what she is talking about, but the ER Dr said that she would be fine, because she is sending me to a DVT clinic tomorrow.

I am just really frustrated (no insurance, and I think this week will officially bankrupt us.) If anyone has gone through with this before, do you think that a midwife will do fine with the complications that come wit... read more

Activity Level

I developed a blood clot after a c section. I have been on Lovenox 2x a day for the past two weeks and I have an upcoming doctors appointment with my Hematologist this week. I am frustrated because I feel like I have so many questions but NO answers. What should my activity level be? I have a 3 week old baby and I am tired. It's winter so I tend to stay in the house, sit on the couch, feed the baby...etc, etc. I am worried that I will develop another clot because my activity level is so low, but my OB and primary care doc both said that I can't because I am on a blood thinner. Also, I had blood work done but I have no idea what I had to have the blood work for. What kind of pain medicine can I take for headaches and body aches? I have to be on lovenox for 6 months and I am so scared that I am not going to make it and leave my baby without a mother. Any answers/advice would be helpful!

Dr. Moll of the University of North Carolina had started what was originally a local outreach program through the University of NC for DVT/PE awareness. Last year the healthcare organization Clot Connect was formed (www.clotconnect.org)

This initiative is expanding due to the need for resources to be available on the national level. In the coming months the website will undergo some changes to better serve our patient community. One of first initiatives is to expand the utilization of their Facebook webpage.

For many of you, i had directed you over the fvleiden.org webpage to the "Ask the Doctor" section of that website. The Q&A's are going to undergo some revision and be brought on over to the clotconnect.org website in the near future. I find, that for many of the patient questions I see, that those Q&A are invaluable.

I will be the moderator of the Facebook page so hope to see some/many over there. We will try to get the latest DVT/PE related information out to ... read more

32 weeks pregnant diagnosed with DVT-Birth etc

I was diagnosed with an extensive DVT in my common femoral vein on Monday at 32 weeks pregnant. I originally went to A&E at 29 weeks when the pain was a million times worse and they completely misdiagnosed it as a trapped nerve, didn't bother to scan me or anything.

I was kept in hospital until Tuesday afternoon and am now injecting my own clexane twice daily. I didn't find the hospital to be very informative and have some questions if anyone in the know doesn't mind answering?

1. The hsopital haven't given me any compression stockings even though I asked for them - they said I just need the clexane - surely they would help?

2. Should I be resting or trying to stay mobile? I've had contraditory information about this!

3. The pain was originally in my groin/thigh (started 3.5 weeks ago) and was the most agonising pain ever - I couldn't walk at all. It's now just like an achey feeling mainly confined to behind my knee/calf area - is this a sign that it's dispers... read more

Chest discomfort when leg swells?
Posted by Mike in KY
Last Reply February 9, 2011 at 03:33
Started February 8, 2011 at 19:50

I had a massive DVT (up and down my left leg) and 'multiple bilateral' Pulmonary Emboli back in late September (2010). I'm 41, btw, and I think the cause was a lot of driving.

I have a lot of questions, but the big one on my mind at the moment is related to this:

Whenever my leg swells, I seem to get chest 'discomfort' at the same time. Sort of a pressure; I suspect it may be pulmonary hypertension.

But if I keep my leg elevated, and hence the swelling under control, my chest mostly feels okay.

So, what I'm trying to understand is whether swelling in the leg can somehow cause 'pressure' on the heart / pulmonary system? I haven't been able to find any documented direct link, but that's what it feels like: Swelling in the leg leads to 'pressure' on the heart.

Anyone else have these symptoms, or have any links to share?
