One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Hi
Just want to thank you all ,particularly John in Dallas!!
After being told in Europe that I had to live with my DVT as it was too late to
treat at 3 months ,I almost gave up hope of ever feeling normal again. I decided
my only option was to go to Dallas .
I was treated on monday by Dr Arko .He got through my thrombosis and stented
it.
I feel great!!!
There are no guarantees in life but don't ever give up hope.

I am 25 years old and had a PE followed by dvt at 21. I was treated badly by doctors and upset none of them told me about the stockings. I got them 2 years after dvt and now have PTS. I cant manage without the stockings now.
Im not worried about getting another clot if i get pregnant but am worried about how my poor leg would cope with the strain of being pregnant. My leg gets very painful when I am on my period. Does anyone have this too? I am so worried I will never have children and I have been worrying about this everyday for the last couple of years. Will pregnancy damage my leg further? Please help

Hi All,
I have been looking for a good medical bracelet identifying I'm on Coumadin. I work far away from my home and drive a lot. I'm worried if I get into an accident, they won't know I'm on Coumadin. I've looked at nearby medical supply stores, but no one has them. Any thoughts or on line sights I can order a good one???

I am a 34 yr old woman,I also have a large Clot from groin to knee in
my femanol artery,I was diagnosed in May 2010 and spent 10 days in
hospital on a Heperin infusion then started warfarin and Clexane
injections when I came home.Whilst in hospital they had trouble
getting my INR levels right i still wasn't quite there when I came
home, but since they flutuate badly i'm tested every fortnight roughly
but my levels differ greatly each time.I was given a target level of
between 2-3,but even today its only 1.85 again,Can anyone tell me if
this is normal?
Also I get a lot of swelling in my foot and calf, which sometimes feels
very warm again is this normal? I still have a lot of pain and funny
sensations in my thigh, does anyone else get these as they worry me?

Kind regards
Karen

hi i've been on warfarin for about 2 weeks now, got out of hospital last fri after a 9 day stay for multiple PE & DVT etc. I'm on 18mg of Warafrin and i am a heavy guy but they tell me its more that everybody metabolises it differently and we each have a different requirement of W to reach the right INR ? I am also on Lexapro for depression but have noticed i'm a little more edgy and become impatient/frustrated easier than before I was taking W

Pain in "other" thigh?

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with a left calf DVT just after Christmas. I'm 30 yrs old and fairly active. Had thought it was a torn muscle but a clever physio spotted it.

I've been on warfarin now for a month (prescribed for 3 months) and the calf pain is gone and i am walking normally with no problems. I recently was advised by a vascular surgeon who is a friend of a friend to wear class 2 compression socks. I also recently went back to the pool to do some swimming, wanted to do this before running or cycling.

The thing is at the moment I am getting intermittent aches in my right thigh,...the other (non-DVT) leg!? I presumed it was the compression socks so stopped wearing them. Doesn't seem to have helped. I also noticed a small new spidery vein on my right thigh recently.

Am I being over cautious and a bit mental or should I have this checked? My job at the moment is quite sedentary which may be a factor. There is no bruising or swelling and no pain anywhere close t... read more

Fear of developing more clots

11 weeks a go I gave birth to my second child. I have Factor V Leiden
and was on Lovenox through out my pregnancy. My OB told me to stop
Lovenox 6 weeks after delivering and 2 weeks after that I developed a pulmonary embolism. I was in the hospital for 4 days and since
returning home I have this fear that I am going to develop another
clot. My INR is at 2.8 (today it is who knows what it will be
tomorrow). I keep having strange pains and strange feelings like in
my legs and now my back is hurting. My Hematologist said that Factor
V doesn't cause clots, something would have to happen to cause them.
But I still have this paranoia that they are still developing. Could
the pain in my back be related to another blood clot or am I being
paranoid?

I was diagnosed on Dec. 28 with a DVT left leg and a PE lower right lung. I had been suffering with swelling and severe pain in my left leg for 2 weeks prior to getting diagnosed. Just thought it was my osteo-arthritis acting up. It was a big, scary shock to find out the truth, as you all know.
After 8 days in the hospital I was finally theraputic enough to be discharged. I know of course that I would have my blood levels monitered my the anti-coagulation clinic.........but that's all the information I received other that my PCP was the doctor that would moniter me. Uh......okay?
Since I've been out I have still had pain in the leg area. Both sharp pains and dull aches in the calf, behind the knee and behind my thigh. MY leg is still swollen. I called my PCP and asked for some pain medicine to help me when in the evening when it's the worst. She precribed 15 pill of Tylenal with codiene. I took it, and doesn't make much of a dent in the pain. I called her to ask for something str... read more

Was searching on the internet and found this message board and I have a question. Had to go to the ER yesterday due to left calf pain they did a dopplar on my leg which came out normal, but last night I started having pain in my right calf and behind my knee and I have also been having sharp pains in my right groin that come and go but the calf pain is constant but its more of a dull ache while the left leg calf pain is gone. Should I be concerned? Should I go back to the ER? I have a followup appoinment with my cardiologist Tuesday should I just wait and talk to him? Any help would be appreciated cause i'm torn I want to go back to the ER but I feel kind of stupid about wanting to go back.

Stent Experience Please Share

Please share your stent experience if you will. Stent for May-Thurner's waiting for a date. Scared and hopeful! Will it be painful? Will I have sedation like for a Venogram? The surgeon said the inflation of the "balloon" can be painful, but it is for a very short time. I would so appreciate if you would share what your stent procedure was like, it makes it less frightening I think. Thanks tons!

Hi All
I have been diagnosed with my second case of a clot in my right leg. ( Hereditary Protein S deficiency)
I have very bad pain in my calf which worsens when I stand)

My question is should I keep my leg up or sit normally?
Also whilst walking is painfull the pain subsides the further I walk! Should I be walking or taking it easy?

Sorry, one more.
When should I expect the pain to subside as it is driving me mad :(

Recovering from a calf DVT most likely caused by hormone replacement meds.
Does anyone know if this means my sisters are also more likely to get blood
clots if they are taking HRT or birth control pills?

My husband has dvt. He recently was diagnosed with 2 clots in his left leg while on a pretty high dose of warfin. They changed his meds from warfin to alextra, an injection. He has to remain on this from here on out. We have a snowboarding trip scheduled for presidents day with his family. I'm very concerned for his welfare on this trip. I was just hoping to get some feedback on what you all think. Is it safe while he still has the clots? His doctors said it takes a few months to disolve them. This happened about 2 weeks ago. Also the high dose of blood thinners concern me if he has a bad fall.Thanks.

Choked up feeling post PE

I had a DVT in my lef and bi-lateral PEs; too many to count. This was on September 22, 2010. I take Warfain 7.5 M-W-F and 5mg the rest of the week. My PT/INR this morning was 2.8. What I am wondering is if anyone else ever has the feeling of being choked up like you are about to cry.

First let me say that I felt like this for about a month prior to "the event." I am 48, work full-time and have been going to school fulltime at night for 3 years working on my BA. That being said...this is NOT stress related. This happens no matter what my mood is or what I am doing. It is not effected by my eating nor does it prevent me from eating. Sometime just taking a good strong deep breath lessens the feeling or makes it completely go away.

Anyone experience this or have some insite that doesn't involve stress?

Warmest regards,
Sandra

duration of taking coumadin

I have a DVT from my pelvis to my ankle. My Vascular doctor whom I was given went I entered hospital A on Valentines Day said from the get go he likes to keep his patients on coumadin for 6 months to a year. I had a doppler at hospital A in April. I have been going to hospital B to thier coumadin clinic every 2 weeks. I went today and they say I am done as it has been 6 months, They told me to stop taking the coumadin and set up a doppler Sept 8th for a baseline. Who do I listen to? Shouldn't I have the doppler at the same hospital to compare the 2? The doctor at hospital b says it is not necessary. They just need a baseline for here on in, incase I develope another clot down the road. How long do most doctors recommend coumadin?
