One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Side effects - why do docs say they dont exist

Why do they say this?? I have investigated in the last month warfarin use, i have stayed up till all hours looking on the net, reading etc. My symptoms have been horrendous ranging from, anxiety, depression, feeling detached, chest pain, difficulty breathing, tightness, severe migraines, throat probs, sleeplessness, insomnia, dreadful night tremors, pins and needles in hands, chronic fatigue, joint pain, exhaustion, oooooh and i nearly forgot memory loss, memory fog and this is naming just a few, strangely enough my doctors have blamed my systemic lupus and hughes!! Yes i do get some of this but not all of it and walking around like a complete zombie all the time is not a symptom of either of my illnesses, this drug is terrible and i felt was definitely limiting my life, i am now taking simthrone, is anyone suffering like this through Warfarin? Why do docs say there are no side effects?

Thank you for your kind replies in my subject thread of Does The Clot Return?

I have just had a re scan after coming off Warfarin for 6 months for an extensive dvt from calf to mid thigh. I was paranoid that it was coming back after experiencing slight pains from beginning to end of the original treated dvt. I didn't know what to do and panicked but I got the most kind help and was treated as an emergency because of the previous dvt. I was advised to visit A & E and they undertook my treatment to check my leg from there. I was admitted that same day to the dvt ward where I was scanned within hours.
To my relief and amazement the scan showed that the clot had completely been cured and disapeared! The whole of it! I was sceptical that Warfarin could completely kill a clot without at least some of it being left behind but I was wrong!
I hope this gives reassurance to all out there that are under treatment or whom are starting medication - it really does work!
I was assured that ... read more

I home test every 30 days and my INR has been between 2.4 and 2.9 for the last year. Today I tested and I was at 1.5. Nothing has changed with the other meds I take or my diet. I am a little confused as to what happened. I upped my dose to 7.5mg today from 5mg and did a 100ml Lovenox injection in the AM and just before I go to bed. I called the nurse at my doctors office and left a message for her to call me. Any ideas?

DVT and Pulmonary Embolism Questions

I was hospitalized at the end of September with a large DVT in my left leg(dr's only tell me it was several inches long) and multiple large PE's. I have been fluctauting badly with my INR to where I have had to bridge with Lovenox injections. This past week I have finally leveled off at 2.3. I still have severe cramping in both legs and difficulty breathing. When I go to the lung specialist he doesnt seem concerned and gave me a few rescue inhalers to take. They work temporarily but the shortness of breath returns. They do not seem concerned with the DVT so much as the PE, even though my leg swells constantly. They havent checked my other leg for dvt's and I have similar symptoms in it as well. When I mention the pain and shortness of breath they prescribed Tramadol and told me its post thrombitic pain and will subside over time. My questions are: Has anyone developed any new clots while on coumadin therapy? With the PE, when should I be concerned enough to go back to the dr or get ... read more

How many PE's

I was wondering how many people have multiple pulmonary embolisms? I hear alot about DVT's but I would like to know how many survivors there are for PE's and how this has changed your life. Unfortuantely, my dr. didn't care to find out what my pain was being caused by and I have 3 massive PE's and my lungs are full of clots that they can't even give me a number of how many.

Hello all,

I posted here a few weeks ago, with regards to a suspected DVT, as I had been having pains in my right calf. I had a positive D Dimer, but 2 doppler ultrasounds which were both negative. However during this investigation I developed chest pain. I notified the Dr on the DVT ward, and he came to the conclusion of it being either of 3 things: muscular, inflammation of the heart lining or a small clot. He was on the verge of giving me a CT scan, until the consultant said no, tell her to go back to her GP and take painkillers!!

In between then and now I have been 2 trips to A&E, 2 chest x rays (which are clear), 7 ECGs, numerous blood tests and they are adamant I do not have DVT/PE. My Dr even wanted me admitted to hospital and a CT scan carried out, but the Drs in A&E said there is nothing wrong - it's stress and advice me on having acupuncture!!!

7 weeks later and still feeling unwell, I am at my witts end. I have had numerous blood tests which have indicated I hav... read more

Hi

I have just had my 2nd child and started back on weight loss and gym and my DVT leg is still 1.5 inches bigger than the other one!! now as you can probably imagine trying to get jeans especially to fit is a nightmare!! i just wondered if any one else has had this prob and if /how long the leg took to get back to a similar size!!!

Just Moved and the Stairs are Wearing Me Out!

Hello everyone. I absolutely LOVE this forum!
I have suffered on and off for 13 years with post thrombotic syndrome. I found out about my DVR when I was 27 and pregnant with my youngest daughter. I was on heparin for the entire pregnancy due to the fact that I could not take coumodin orally. My doctor did not want me to take coumodin after I had the baby because he said I was too young and that it would tear up my stomach if I took it for decades. So, I've been wearing the stockings and elevating my legs on and off for the past 13 years.
The funny things about have post thrombotic syndrome is that I might not have a problem with my leg for months or even years, but then something triggers it and I'm back in bed with my legs elevated and depending on my stockings.
About three weeks ago I moved to a townhome from a one level apartment. I have two stairways (15 steps a piece) leading up to the bedroom and down to the basement. I'm am have a TERRIBLE time walking up and ... read more

Dr. says to double warfarin Dose?

I think I just need a bit of reassurance. Has anyone had their doc tell them to take a double dose of warfarin, just for a one day, then go back to their regular (just 4mg) dosage level? My INR's were lower than usual on today's check. My Dr. is out over the holidays and the covering MD had the nurse call me with this dosing advice. Only been on this lovely stuff since November, and now I have visions of overly thin blood dancing in my head!!

Hi everyone. Just wondering if anyone else had anxiety over the injections - or is it plain old me :(
I have a very high pain threshold, can tolerate blood tests easily (i actually like to watch them), but when it comes to the Clexane.....something changes!! Is it the way I do them?? Yes they hurt and its not for long, but why cant I get my head around them???!!!

I was diagnosed with DVT about 14 years ago. I have had around 50/60 clots (DVT and SVT) since. I have only had clots in my back, groin and legs. I was wondering if anyone has been as lucky (lol) as me and had a high number of clots.
