One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

So pleased to have found this forum..
After several days of severe pain, last June, my calf swelled and i couldnt walk. Emergency trip to GP, transfer to hospital clinic for blood tests and scan (all same day) and i was diagnosed with DVT above and below knee. 2 days later, a clot found in other leg too. Besides driving quite long distances in my automatic car i'm not in any high risk groups, although i know i do have quite narrow veins. I was immediately put on heparin injections, then given warfarin, which i'm still taking. I've had pelvic & abdominal scans, but not given the results yet, so i'm assuming they were okay.
The pain in my legs eased a little initially but has gradually increased and now i am in great discomfort most of the time. Its a kind of pain where i just dont know where to put my legs, its awful, co-codomol helps very little. I have bought a wedge cushion and sit with my feet raised as often as i can. Walking leaves me in terrible pain after just a few minute... read more

Maybe it is a quite opened question, but I am wondering how your sexual life changed after dvt???

Presently, my leg can't bear pressure in a vertical position..I wear the stockings the whole day, before sleeping or when I have time to lay down and lifting my legs by some pillows, I take off.

How could I have an exciting sexual life when I should avoid moving and direct pressure on legs?????

Always in stockings?? :((((((((( I find it a little bit awful...

I have been recently diagnosed with dvt in my left leg with pulmonary embolism. I have been having a burning and pain in my left achilles tendon area with a puffy swelling behing my ankle bones. Should this be something to be concerned about, it really is making walking painful. I am taking warfarin 5 mg for about 3 to 4 weeks now.
Thanks for any help!

Having recovered from a dvt in 2008 i am suffering really badly with anxiety, on Mirtazapine for 2 years but put so much weight on i decided to come off them, that was 2 weeks ago. Just wondered if anyone was on Citalopram after dvt and how did they feel on them. Not taking any other medication. Just need something to calm me down, tried Bachs and Kalms but wasnt that effective. Any replies would be grateful

Hi my daughter who is only 11, was diagnosed with a dvt on aug. 24th, she has been on Lovenoux, she is very athletic and wants to return to at least basketball, her first doctor says depending on what the sono says on Oct 15th he might take her off the blood thinners after only 2 months so she can play because he says the medicine doesn't dissolve the clot. i went for a second opinion they say they would leave her on it an extra month because they usually treat for a total of 3 months not 2, and they say she can play basketball while on the blood thinners. this worries me, what if she gets hit in the head or falls on her head hard. Please advise what u would do as a parent. The clort is in her fermoral vein only and her swelling is about 1 inch bigger than the right leg, but it stays the same and doesn't get aggravated by exercise, in fact they said exercise is good to get the blood flowing, please help! thanks

My mother has been told that she's got a fairly large clot going down the length of her left leg and a good sized one in her right as well. This all occurred after a successful surgery to cure renal cell carcinoma. So now she's out of the hospital and back at home (1 week today) and she acts like she wants to be babied all the time. Every time I walk past her (she's staying in my home for now) it's "Can you get me this" or "can you get me that real quick".

For the majority of last week I would but then I started thinking I was just enabling her to act that way. But the majority of what I hear from nurses and doctors is that although she is in a decent amount of pain she should try to fight through it and keep active. Prior to the surgery for RCC she was very active in going to the gym 4-5 times a week and just active in general. She was a smoker but hasn't smoked in over a month and a half since before her surgery.

I can also say that she was about 135 pounds prior to e... read more

DVT in one leg BUT WHAT HAPPENS with other??

Hi everybody!

I had dvt in left leg 3 months ago. Doctor said it's enough wearing the stockings just on the ill leg. I did this way. After 2-3 weeks, my healthy leg has started to show freaky things..on ankle, the vein bulges in a relatively high way when I walk or stand, the foot gets red!
I have let it checked by Doppler twice, but the results show that the venous curculation in the right leg is OKAY.

Then what are these symptoms???????
Sometimes I also feel a little burning payment in the RIGHT!! foot.

WHAT IS THAT?? :(((((((((((((
side effect of warfarin or something with pressure?

I rather wear the stocking on both legs after this happened...but i am very sad :( i don't understand :((

Do you have experiences like this??

I had a intravenous line for a contrast CT scan on September 4. Within 4 days a
phelbitus showed up, within 3 more days, it was very red, inflammed painful. I
went to my GP and they just put me on antibiotics. By Thursday, it was worse, my
GI doctor say it (unrelated appointment) and she sent me for a dopplar. they
found the clots in the arm, but also a clot had moved/broken loose and gone into
the clavical region and close to the main vein (not sure the name), so into the
hospital I went right away. I stayed for 3 days...and received injectible Lovenox.
Three more dopplars and they said it was still there but had not worsened, so
good news. I was taken off lovenox and now full size aspirin (good not comadin).
My arm is still very painful into my chest. The pain is about the same...and I have
not gotten much response on how long this takes to get over. I presume I can
return to normal activity, but I do feel like a truck ran over me. sort of flu like
symptoms... read more

INR after cardiac ablation

I had a cardiac ablation on Saturday (2.10) and had to stop my warfarin the day before. I started taking Marevan straight after the procedure, but at todays INR test it was 1.7.

My question is: How quickly will I be back at theraputic level? I am supposed to be flying home for a wedding at the weekend so want to be theraputic by then.

I had a bi-lateral pulmonary embolus in July 2010. I have had the Fragmin shots and
take warfarin now. I cannot fly for at least 6 months. I had massive headaches for a
few weeks after the PE. They are gone. However, my ears ring and I feel like my ears
are popping from pressure (like being in an airplane).

Has anyone had this and does it go away? Also, will I be able to fly again?

heparin injections ongoing

Hi and thank you for this forum.
My husband was diagnosed with dvt in lower left leg over two weeks ago. The hospital
has not taken him off the heparin injections while they try to stabilize the warferin

Is this normal> Everything I have read says that the injections shuld only be for the
first few days. Does this mean the warferin isn't working? The hospital seem reluctant
to answer questions - they just say 'everyone's different'. The swelling and redness
has not changed since the first day.
He is not overweitgh or a smoker and hasn't been inactive. Probably genetic.
Any thoughts / ideas much appreciated. Many thanks.
