One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Your Experiences with Post Thrombotic Syndrome

Hi All,
for those of you that have had your dvts for awhile, I'm curious about your experiences with PTS. I'm 8 months past my initial diagnosis. Lately I've been feeling some slight pain in my vein in the upper/inner thigh. I know this is where my clot was, and I know I have residual clot there as I never had thrombolysis. I had a follow up ultrasound 2 days ago to assess for reflux so I know this is not new clot. The discomfort is usually not too bad, and seems to subside after awhile. Have any of you all felt this as well? Not much swelling, just this vein stuff that I think is happening a little more often than it used to. If anyone cares to describe what PTS is like for them I would be intersted in hearing your stories.

Venous Reflux Diseas question

Has anyone been diagnosed with this? I just was and it's probably from a DVT I had four years ago. The name itself scares the pants off me. They gave me compression stockings today and I will wear those and they talked about a laser procedure to close the diseased vein which should reduce swelling and pain. Anyone had this done? I feel like I was just given an incurable diagnosis that will get worse and worse until bad things happen.

Just diagnosed with DVT behind knee

I came across this site while trying to gather more info about my DVT.

I fractured my fibula a little over 4 weeks ago and was put in a fiberglass cast.
About 11/2 to 2 weeks ago, I started to notice pain in my calf which I thought was
a muscle spasm from lack of movement, with the thought always in my mind
about a clot. About 2 or 3 days ago, the pain has slowly been going away but, I
finally got scared and went to my orthopedist who removed my cast and did an
u/s where they found 2 clots behind my L knee.

I am terrified. I have already had 2 injections of lovenox and will start bridging to
Coumadin. I am so afraid that they will break off and I'll end up with a PE.

The dr and nurses are trying to reassure me that even though it can move, the
fact I'm now on blood thinners, they offer protection.

I don't know what the purpose of my post is, other than to maybe hear from
others who have been here.

Thanks in advance!

Hello all - does anyone know anything about Factor II gene mutation? I had appointment with haematologist today who thinks that this is why I've had DVT and two PE's in the last three years. So warfarin forever.... I kind of expected that, but would be interested to know if anyone else has heard of this? Also possible links to hormone fluctuations - odd that this suddenly caused problems when I hit menopause (I'm now 49) As always thanks for any comments

Hi everyone,
It's been 2 weeks since I've started taking xarelto for a DVT that developed in my
calf, and I have yet to receive any kind of ease since the pain started. Is this
normal? I thought by now I'd be able to see even the slightest difference but the
pain is still severe as ever. Please share your thoughts and experience! Thanks!

DVT and Pregnancy

Has anyone gotten a DVT due to pregnancy? How were you treated? Was it during your pregnancy or after your pregnancy? And how did this affect later pregnancies?

I am 23 years old and developed a DVT in my left groin at about 37 weeks. I went in for an ultrasound due to pain and swelling and they didn't find anything. Four days later, with worsening symptoms, I went in again and had a clot that was almost a foot long. I was in the hospital for 10 days before they induced me. I had a healthy baby girl and then was put on coumadin for 6 months. I still have residual clot that probably won't go away. My leg still swells and my veinsd are quite the sight. My Dr thinks I'll probably have to do blood thinners throughout all future pregnancies.

I had zero risk factors when on 10/28/2016 my left kneecap started
to burn. Within hours I couldn't bend my knee, my calf was sore,
and the leg appeared reddish. I saw my PCP who diagnosed it as a
torn Patellar tendon. It sounded off but he owned 3 clinics so I
went down the rabbit hole. I was sent for an MRI then saw an
orthopedic surgeon. He diagnosed a torn quadriceps tendon and
advised surgery. Again his reading of the MRI seemed like
guesswork to me, but he worked at the hospital and seemed quite
sure. I was on the gurney w an IV when he came in to "mark" which
knee to cut. I showed him the swelling had gone and the knee
seemed fine. He poke around, shook his head, cancelled surgery,
and gave me cream to rub on the sore calf muscle. 4 calls into the
PCP doctor all went un-returned. The weekend came and my shoulder
started hurting. I developed a chronic cough and my right lower
back hurt when I breathed. I slept sitting up. Monday came and I

I was admitted to hospital mid November with large PE in both
lungs and a lung infection, was discharged after 2 weeks and then
readmitted 6 days later with Chest Infection/Pneumonia and was in
for just over a week.
The hospital have no idea why I got these blood clots and was only
diagnosed after a blood test and CT scan.
I have been at home now for just under 2 weeks and am so paranoid
and aware of everything in my body.
I am on Apaxibam 5mg twice a day, water tablets, betablockers,
antibiotics (went to dr the other day as bad cough and have had
the cough for about 6 weeks) she prescribed antibiotics to be on
the safe side. Was on Raparimil 2.5mg twice a day but this got
changed 2 days ago when I went to the hospital as cough was
driving me mad and hurting, also had the feelings of a really
heavy /pronounced heartbeat, the doctor has now put me on
Irbesartan 150mg once a day.
I potter around my home and I have tries going out (not far just

Hi All,

I have been in touch with this forum for more than a year now. I have sufffered 3 DVTs and PE twice, once it was extensive.
I have an IVC filter implanted on 29th March 2008.

I was wondering how many of us who visit this forum wear IVC filters.

I remember some times back one of the visitor had started a topic inviting all those who suffered DVT due APL syndrome.

Generally you don't get to meet people with IVC filter, is it OK to form a list of people who have IVC filter in this post?

If you think its OK, please mention your name, type of filter, when it was implanted and any special comment you want to share.

1.) Khalid - Gunther Tulip Retrievable filter, but now its permanent - 29th March 2008.

Blood clot worried

So I started birth control (Nuvaring) about a month ago. The last week or so I
have been having leg pain. It started in my shin which isn't normal for day but
moved to my calf and now the pain is my calf shin knee and back of thigh. It's
worse sitting down. I'm a healthy 23 yo. My grandma had a dvt and pe from birth
control when she was in her twenties but hasn't had issues since. The pain has
gotten worse and seems to come in waves. No swelling but my foot is definitely
colder. I went to the hospital and they did d diner and said I was fine. The pain
has gotten worse since. I can't get into medical until tomorrow and I plan on
asking for an ultrasound which probably won't happen for awhile because
military medical sucks. My job is me sitting for 12 hrs. Idk what to do I'm scared!
And my mum keeps blowing it off saying it's nothing (I call her regularly lol) any
help? I don't want to end up with a pe because I live alone and that's a scary

May-Thurner's Syndrome

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone here has had experience with May-Thurner's Syndrome? I was diagnosed last month as they're still trying to determine the cause of my DVT 6 months ago (I'm still not running or doing stairs to any extent, though most other things are back to normal). I was told about a possible procedure that has been done in about 1000 patients involving putting a stent in the veins (for me, from my belly button to my knee) that May-Thurner's affects. Has anyone here undergone this (or a similar) surgery and can you give me the basics of your procedure/recovery?
Thanks so much!
Happy holidays all!

IVC filter not retrievable

I had a dvt 3 weeks postpartum with my 7th child. Damaged vein required stents
and the clot was 20 cm long. IVF filter was attempted to be removed yesterday as
clot is completely gone. Vascular surgeon spent 3 hours trying to get it out. It had
migrated and tilted and despite his efforts was not able to get it. I will be on
xarelto for one more month. I currently plan to leave the filter in. Has anyone kept
it successfully? What at the risks for me given this was a unique situation and I
don't expect more clots. I am 42 years old and otherwise in good health.

pain an swelling when standing up lsted for 7 days... Now it is totally gone. Did I
have a blood clot? If so, what to do now and prevent it from moving to other parts
of the body and creating complications?

On Dec 1, 2016 I was diagnosed with ankle
to groin DVT in my right leg, it is now
December 20 and I can't tolerate any more
torture. Dr's, nurses say to walk on it,
well that's no easy task, at best I can
stand for about 30 seconds. With pain
killers I can maybe get a few minutes, but
not enough to shower. I am wearing 30 - 40
mmhg thigh high compression stockings all
the time, if I take them off its even
worse, some people say don't wear them to
bed, I've found that I have to! I'm
currently taking 15 mgs of Warfarin daily,
since I am bed ridden, I Can't leave the
house, a phlebotomist comes out weekly to
check INR, last check it was 1.59. I feel
like I'm dying and that the pain will
never go away. I've also had an ankle to
groin blood clot in my left leg, but the
pain was not as intense as this. The
doctors don't return my calls and do not
seem to understand the severity of the
pain, I had a total left hip replacement
and my pain was be... read more
