One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Hi everyone, i am hoping that someone has some sort of advise for me... i have been on warfarin for 14yrs now (since i was 16) i developed a DVT in my groin and a PE in my lung in 1996 - i got this from being on the pill. I have since found out that i have 2 hereditory disorders - Protein C resistence and Factor 5 Lydon. So i now know that i'll never come off of warfarin.

I have contacted my haemotologist recently to request to come off my warfarin and go on fragmin so i can try for a family, its taken her 3 months to come back and tell me that she cant help me. Has anyone got any idea's where to go now? I live in the UK and have no idea of what to do next, it feels like the door has shut on me and i am devestated!!

Thanks Jill xx

Hi all, question

FVL, hetero, birth control pills were main causes of clot about one year ago.

I am scheduled to go off Warfarin next Tuesday.

Howevvver. I am wondering about Emergency Contraception. What are the
implications of taking Plan B while on Warfarin? I assume it will drop INR, but I am
scared of getting a clot from it....anyone have any idea as to how these two drugs
interact?

SORTA time sensitive...

thanks!

I think I have DVT. So far I do know that my blood is extremely "thick" apparently. I have been doing some research online and am just getting more and more confused. One fact I can tell you : this thing is scaring the hell out of me. My body actually feels weak when I read about all these things that could happen. It scares the bejesus out of me. And what if I need to take Warfarin - it is rat poison. I am relatively young. Will I need to take it for the rest of my life ? What the hell is it going to do to my liver/kidneys/spleen etc over the years ? Can you still get an erection on this medicine? I can't believe poison is medicine. Great. This whole thing is just bad,...bad.
Some people say we can just drink lots of water and take vitE/fish oil etc. Then others are saying NO, don't play around with it. Very, very confusing.

I have been on Warfarin for nearly 2 months now.
I am going on holiday at end August meaning I would have been on it for nearly 4 months. I'm told I will have to go on it for 6 months.
Can I stop taking my Warfarin for 2 weeks whilst on holiday so that I can enjoy myself and drink alcohol?

Thanks

Flying with DVT

I know this comes up frequently but I would like advice. I had a massive P.E. last March following an injection in a varicose vein when it's likely that foam broke off and blood clotted round that. I have a DVT in my leg probably part of the original event. It took me about a year to recover and conquer my anxiety. I was on warfarin for 8 months and then able to stop it. Now I want to fly to Canada on an 8 hour flight. My haematologist said it was ok if I inject heparin before each flight, wear compression stockings, drink lots of water and do the leg exercises. I felt confident and then a friend implied that I am taking a reckless risk. Any advice/ experience of flying with DVT?

INR Test - What does it mean by sample clotted

Hi

I went for my weekly blood test to check INR level and have my book back in the post this morning saying 'Sample clotted - please have another blood test'

Does this mean that they took too long in taking the sample ? She did have the needle in my arm for about 3 mins insisting that she was determined to get blood from it, despite me telling her that they've always struggled to get blood from that arm and to use the other one !

Thanks, Nic

Vibration Exercise Machines

My DVT in my right leg was diagnosed back in January, and I am still on warfarin until the haematologist tells me otherwise. However, I have been advised that I can do some 'gentle' exercise ie walking, swimmimg. But the gym has a vibtration exercise machine that I would now like to try-however, is this a safe option for me to consider? Have any of you used these things after being diagnosed with a DVT?
All advice/comments will be very welcome.
Many thanks

Hiya all,

Just a quick question..as like all, I had a DVT with PE at the end of April. So far all the treatment I have has BEEN given is LOVENOX INJ (2 daily) and now Arixtra inj (1 a day) never have been prescribed warfarin or coumadin. I was told that I would be on Injections for at least 6 months. and reviewed after that. Has anyone else gone through this type of treatment program?? Or on this type program? What are some of your thoughts??

Thank you all for your assistance.

analgesics and Nsaids that could be offered.

I have been trying to get some replacement stockings and when I asked my GP for some he told me that I should NOT be wearing them as they cause leg ulcers. I thought the idea of the stockings is to prevent PTS and leg ulcers!!!!.
As I have said in this forum before why cant there be specialists in the NHS who treat people with DVT.

Permanent Clot

After all the Coumadin, heparin and LMWH for six months the clot is still there. Radiologist said it is permanent. Has anyone had this besides me? Two Drs. say to forget about it as the other veins will eventually learn to work and will probably lead to vericose veins at the worst in the future. The other option by one Dr.is to have a vascular sugeon go in and get rid of it. I'm having knee replacements this summer so another surgery is not really an option.

Thanks for any and all info~Margie

Post-DVT pain

I experienced a DVT in my left leg in January. I am due to come off of coumadin w/in the next month. However, I am beginning to experience a lot of pain in my leg..sometimes worse than the initial pain of the DVT. I am confident that it is PTS, so I have begun wearing a thigh-high compression stocking. However, it seems that the pain is worse with the stocking than without. Is this just some initial pain that will lessen as time goes on? The pain seems worse after being on the treadmill..but i know that I need to be on the treadmill to try to prevent future clots. Any suggestions?
