One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Hi I was some of you ladies could help. I had a DVT and PE 2 months ago, and was very ill with it and am only now beginning to get back on my feet. My problem is my INR has always been low and the medical people are not happy. When I got the DVT I was on the depo injection and a couple of years before that the pill. Due to the DVT I was took of the depo injection and put on the mini pill, and now because my INR is so low they have decided to take me of that, when I asked right what do I take now and I have been told to wait and they will look into it and let me know. I am really confused if the docs don't know who does?. I Would be interested in hearing your recommendations. I am 27 and have got 2 lovely kids and am not planning on any more, especially as I am likely to be on warafrin for life. Cheers

Hi. I am a 25 year old male. I'm not really sure where to start. I have more physical symptoms than mental, but...I am having several problems. They may or may not be all or partially related to one another. My current big worries are that for the past 2-3 years i've been feeling very confused/can't focus and my short term memory is really bad. Now i've been told by a couple doctors that it could just be anxiety. (my worry, of course, is brain tumor). I just feel..."not right". Now, I also have had very bad varicose veins in my left forearm for years. Also the past 2-3 years, they have become more swollen, VERY bulging...and at times in one certain part of it, VERY hard like a sharp rock under my skin in part of it (about the size of a grape or so.) I have been to a vascular surgeon over a year ago who said that it was superficial vein thrombosis and should go away and to just apply a warm compress, etc. He wasn't too much help. A year later, its still there 100%...not worse, and de... read more

Thought i'd try and get a few opinions from you all!
I finished a 3 month course of Warfarin in December 07 after a DVT in my calf following surgery. I am flying Long Haul to New York from the UK at the end of January. I know about all the precautionary methods i.e plenty of water, exercises, stockings, etc for the flight. However i am tempted to take Warfarin a few days before i go until i come back as i am obviously worried about getting a second clot and it would be better than just asprin. Thoughts please people? I understand this is not a medical advise site but i have spoken to a number of doctors and nurses all with differing opinions!! Just want your views please

I saw my hematologist today & he was pretty upbeat about my situation( still
cautious though- that's my cups half empty thing).
He said I'd tested negative for protein s, protein c & thrombocillia ( Theyve taken
so much blood, not sure when they tested for it), but they took a whole load
more today & I've got to have another one done on Wednesday .

I just got out of the hospital for a DVT treatment. Stayed there for 3 nights. My INR is at 2.7, so I will be taking coumadin.

Meanwhile right now I realized, my leg that has DVT (just below the knee 6cm long), feels colder than the other leg.

Is this normal?
Should I go back to the hospital?

About 2 months ago I suffered from a DVT in my left leg from my ankle to my groin, whilst in hospital with that I suffered a PE and had to ahve a filter inserted it was very scary and had a worrying few days. I was in hospital for 3 weeks in the end and am only now beginning to get back on my feet. My question is after recently seeing my consultant he has now requested I have a heart scan to make sure my heart is ok. Could anyone please tell me if they have ever heard of this or had one done and what are they hoping to look for. My scan is booked for the 23rd December. Cheers

Hello,

I need someone's help

At the age of 16 i got my first blood clot in my right leg, i was on clexane and the rat tablets. it went away fro a while but came back.

Ive had 3 DVT's since the age of 16 through to 18, im now 22 and want to go travelling, singapore, oz, new zealand etc etc, so flying times are quite long.

Ive preiously had a lupas anticoagulant at the age of 18, and after plenty of tests an trips to hospital this disapeared.

Normally if i travel for longer than 4 hours i have to have a clexane injection in my belly which i do myself.

Please can someone help me as im due to go traveeling in January and would like as much info as possible.

Hi
I had a dvt after 2 long haul flights within 10 days, on august 21st, put on
lovenox and warfarin. My inr is 3.2 at the moment, they've decreased my warfarin
by 2.5mg, my question is , does anyone else get aches & pains in their non dvt
leg? I'm afraid it's another Clot. I have no redness or swelling, it just aches
around my hip/ thigh area .

I have been reading on these posts that many people go through their course of coumadin (warfarin) treatment for 6 (+) months, then go in for blood screens for any clotting disorders once they are off of coumadin. What has been other people's experience with testing for clotting disorders? The reason I ask is that I was tested after a week of being on Lovonox and warfarin, and tested positive for APLS. I was retested a month later while on warfarin and taking antibiotics for an infection and tested positive again. In anyone's opinion how acturate is the testing while on warfarin? I can't seem to find any answers on this. I guess the reason I am asking is twofold: 1) I hear most people being tested for clotting disorders post treatment for the original DVT; 2) In denial.

Arixtra vs Warfarin

I am a 36 year old female diagnosed with a DVT in my left femoral and iliac ( left
upper leg). I was diagnosed 7 wks ago just after giving birth via c-section. I am
so frustrated! I have been to and talked with several different doctors
(hematologists, gynecologists, and soon a vascular surgeon) and they all tell me
different things: exercise, don't exercise, 3 months on warfarin, 6 months on
warfarin, warfarin doesn't cause weight gain, warfarin does cause you to retain
water.

I got to a point not long after my INR hit 2.0 where I couldn't lose any more of
the baby weight and I wonder if it's the warfarin. I'm considering going on the
arixtra shots for 2 wks to see if that changes. Has anyone tried this? My doctor
says it's more expensive, but you don't have to get your blood tested every
week. Or worry about eating too many leafy green vegetables.

My leg swells every time I go to the gym. Do I push myself or take it easy? Argh!
I love being active and... read more

I had an extensive clot on right leg in august after 2 long haul trips to uk & back
to us, was on lovenox & warfarin for 10 days now just warfarin, my first dvt leg(
right ) doesn't hurt now & swelling has gone down, but about a week ago I
started getting pain in my left thigh , my inr was 2.8 last week . I went to ER
Monday & they scanned left leg with Doppler which they didn't do at same time
as first dvt, they found a clot on my groin but couldn't determine whether it was
from the flights or a new one.
Confused !
Going to see hematologist Monday x

Has anybody suffered DVT because of elevated Homocystine level. I am suffering from DVT since last two months. Have been on warfarin 10mg now and my last INR was 2.2. My homocystine level is 35. can this elevated level be cause of DVT?
