DVT deep vein thrombosis forum

One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Leg veins feel like over stretched rubber band

So it's been 6 months since my latest DVT. Have been back to work for 5 months, still a little swelling from time to time but overall I thought I had completely recovered. During a recent "field trip" for work, I walked around a racetrack and then a mall nearly all day. By the end of the evening my legs were killing me. The only way to describe it was like over stretched rubber bands down the inside of my thighs (not a muscle ache for being out of shape, although I am).

Anyone else ever have this feeling? Maybe I am just out of shape and just need more exercise. Working on that. Opinions for you experienced DVT folks?

I need your opinion on something...
several months ago i had this pain in my
left hip. It was like a really deep down
ache then one morning I woke up and the
pain had moved to behind my knee. Since
then I have had 2 more of these strange
episodes where behind my knee aches so bad
I can hardly sleep. I also get this
pulsing tingle that comes intermittently
sometimes fast or slow. My toes burn and
are pin and needly. It has nothing to do
with my muscle. My veins on that leg are
very pronounced. However there isnt any
swelling or temp changes or redness. No
breathing problems though I was a bit
winded coming up the stairs yesterday. I
usually am. I also did something really
odd yesterday morning. My head shook
uncontrollably for about a minute. I don't
have seizures or anything so I dont know
why that would occur. I dont know if I am
being dramatic or i need to see a doctor.
Right now it hurts pretty bad. Thanks for

DVT whilst on fragmin

My husband commenced fragmin following a PE. He was on a course for 3 months and I injected him every day,3 weeks before the end of the course he had a severe pain in his left calf. Initially a dvt was excluded because of the anticoagluant therapy, however it was decided he should have a ultra-sound of the back of his knee to exclude the possibility of a cyst. It was confirmed yesterday that he developed a dvt whilst receiving fragmin. My husband was weighed prior to commencement to ensure the correct dosage and has not put on weight in that period. We are at present waiting to hear what the next course of action will be. I would interested to hear of any other incidences and/or comments regarding this. Thanks

Local delivery driver risk factor

Hello I always hear that there's a risk
factor for long distance drivers for deep
vein thrombosis. I'm a local delivery
driver that drives for about 8 hours a day
but every 20 minutes I stop to unload it
at a delivery site. Do you think the fact
that I make frequent stops lessons my risk
factor for developing DVT?

I just went for a run a couple of hours ago. When I finished, I discovered this
shocking pain in my upper calf. I'm only 16 so not sure of the possibilities of DVT.
Lots of pain when I flex my foot upwards. Recently I've been having Achilles
tightness but it seems to have gone away. DVT was the first thing that came up.

Have been on xarelto for a year after developing blood clots in lung after breast
cancer surgery. Since that time I have been taking my xarelto with breakfast.
Should I be taking with dinner instead? No one ever told me anything other than
take with food (that is also instructions on bottle)

Why are doctors so bad at diagnosing dvt? Especially in younger people. I was
diagnosed with dvt after some delay. How long did you wait to get diagnosed
and treated.

INR Changes

Hi I had a clot in my left thigh when I was 29 weeks pregnant. Since having my baby in June I have been on warfarin and was told I would be on it for 6 months. My INR levels have been stable around 2 for most of the time I've been on it. In the last month my INR level dropped to 1.9 and now to 1.7 so I've had to increase my dosage. I don't know what may have caused this as I have not changed my diet. Can feeling stressed or an increase in exercise affect your INR. I was really hoping that I would be able to stop the warfarin next month but now I'm not so sure. Just wondered if anyone else had a similar experience and if they have any advice?

Worried about a second DVT

I had ACL surgery almost 2 years ago and had a
DVT after that and was on Lovanox for 4
months, I was cleared after that and hadn't
thought of it since. Recently I've been having
severe health anxiety out of nowhere and
Monday I had blood work done. They did a d
dimer and it was negative, I've been taking
fish oil religiously for the last 3 weeks as
well. But Tuesday night my calf was bugging me
some right below my knee bend.

Since then it has bugged on and off and felt
tight when steetching, also there are little
red dots around the area but idk if that is
from me poking around that area so much.
There's no swelling in my leg that I can
notice and it doesn't feel warm, I think it's
just a strain from the gym but I am still
letting it get to me.

It doesn't feel like my previous dvt and I
don't have a family history of clotting so I
might be just freaking myself oUT but I still
can't get past thinking it's another dvt.

Thanks for any and ... read more

Hi All,

First time here, just to share my personal experience regarding DVT
and what I did to cure myself of it.

My job involves lot of sitting down, as I work on the computer. This
could be anything up to 12 or 13 hours a day. A while ago, I noticed
that my calf started aching as well as gradually getting swollen. I
didn't take much notice of it except to massage it or place it next to
the gas fire so as to help with the circulation.

I knew that my problem was due to my having to sit for hours and hours
on end on the computer. Anyway, as time went by, I started noticing
the veins in my legs become more pronounced, in addition to a constant
pain. I also noticed some sort of lump inside my right leg!

This gave me a lot of concern as I consider myself relatively fit,
being that I do physical exercises everyday, on the exercise bike, in
addition to dancing salsa on a regular basis.

Anyway, one day, I heard something about dvt on T... read more

further instructions other than to inject low dose clexane (like
heparin) when going on long plane flights. I am now elderly and
needing to supplement...taking Calcium every few days that has vit K
in it. Should there be any concerns??

have me on xeralto where I have such vivid

having an antidote if you start bleeding
and want to know what you think of
Prodaxa? Also, suggestions on pain relief

Second DVT won't go away

So I'm 27 years old and developed a DVT a few years back. The
doctors said it disolved so I went off Blood thinners. This past few
months I went to the doctor and they found the clot in the same spot.
No sign of it going away. Not able to stint or take out the clot.
I'm living in fear that it will travel to my heart lungs or head.
Do people live long healthy lives with clots in their leg all their
life? Or is my expectancy going to be shorter. I have a lot of
anxiety. It's making me question my priorities.

Warfarin Heartburn ?

I get severe heartburn since I started Warfarin. I get lots of belching, stomach noise, strong pains in the esophagus. I've had cardiac tests and they were okay. It occurs either soon after eating any food or about two hours after eating. I did get heartburn before Warfarin but nothing as bad or as often as it is since I started what is supposed to indefinite period on Warfarin. (doctor term for lifetime)

Is this a rare problem?

EDTA Chelation Therapy

My father-in-law suffers from DVT and is also scheduled to have an artery from one leg, (the calf) bypassed by taking a vein out of his other leg due to the fact the artery has a clot.

He's concerned about this and we are wondering if anyone with DVT has ever gone through this proceedure and if it's the only option. He's concerned there might be problems and he may loose his leg.

We're also wondering if anyone with DVT has tried EDTA Chelation Therapy and if it has helped and where they received the therapy.

Thank you

hello all im alan im 26 in aug 08 i was diagnosed with dvt throughout my left leg and 3 clots in my lungs one large one in right side two (i guess you would say normal sized) in my left. the vena cava filter was put in and have been on warfarin since.

doctors said im lucky to be alive, and dont understand how im still alive and so on so forth.

my doctor told me on my last visit that he wanted to take me off of the warfarin next month. it kinda worries me because of the filter being there, and was wondering is this safe? has anyone here been taken off warfarin with the filter? and what was their experiance with this?
