One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Hello all, I'm 24 years old and I had a DVT in my leg. Tests showed that I also had multiple embolisms in both lungs. I'm gonna be on Wafarin for the next 6 months and after that, the doctors will test me for genetic defects.
Anyway my question is, if it's normal to continue having pain in my lungs? It's been going on now for around 3 months and it doesn't seem to get much better. I also get tired very often and simply need to lie down and rest. Does anyone of you have the same experiences?
Thanks a lot :)

Stents for May-Thurner

Hello,

My 31 year old daughter has been diagnosed with May-Thurner Syndrome.

She is now contemplating stent placement. Her vascular surgeon is hesitant to put in a stent as they do not know the longevity or how these stents stand up to pregnancy.

She has been wearing 30-40 mmHg compression stockings and taking a daily dose asprin, but these measures do not completely control her left leg swelling.

Are there any ladies on this forum with iliac vein stents that have gone on to have a family?

Thanks!

I have been dealing with DVT (blood clots) for 7 yrs now. I was first diagnosed when I was 24 and 3 weeks after giving birth and could not work out for 4 yrs and now I am considered to be obese. I try to work out and always have to go to the bathroom and lay on the floor so I dont pass out. I have changed my diet although I cant eat things(greens) which I love and are so good for you to lose weight. Anyone have any tips of what I can do or take to help me lose some of this weight so I will not throw clot after clot. I nearly died September 2008 after being clotted from my knees to my kidneys. Doctors used some stuff called clot buster through cathaders behind my knees and I ended up with a bleed on my brain. Please help me if you have any advice.

and l have noticed swelling has now travelled up on to the hip and lower back but only

Grapefruit diet warning after blood clot scare
By Daniel Martin
Last updated at 10:40 AM on 03rd April 2009

Doctors are warning of the dangers of the grapefruit diet after a women almost lost a leg three days into the eating regime.
The 42-year-old developed a blood clot in her left leg after the fruit interacted with the contraceptive Pill she was taking.

A scan found a clot from the hip all the way down to her calf.

Surgeons said she was in danger of losing the leg to gangrene, and injected a clot-busting medication directly into the blockage.

The grapefruit diet involves eating just 800 calories and having at least one grapefruit a day.

It is claimed the enzymes in the fruit help the body burn fat.

In the American woman's case the fruit blocked the action of an enzyme that normally breaks down oestrogen in the Pill. Too much oestrogen in the blood raises the risk of blood clots.

The woman had been on a long car journey, after which she felt pain fro... read more

A cholesterol-lowering statin drug can significantly cut the risk of potentially fatal blood clots, US research suggests.

Thats a great news...

Anyone with groin pain? Can you help?

OK, here's the problem. I had the massive DVT (belly button to ankle in left leg). When I got the DVT, I also got some large veins that bulge out on the front of my pubic bone.
Anyone have any ideas about how I can apply pressure to this area to relieve the pain? My pressure stockings do an excellent job on the legs - and help with the pain a great deal. So, what can I use to press against the pubic bone and relieve that pain?
So far, bicycle shorts and control top pantyhose have given the most relief. Anyone else have some better ideas? The problem with bicycle shorts is that they are so tight that they almost cut the blood off at the top of the thigh - exactly what I don't want them to do.

lovenox air bubble

After almost two months on and off lovenox (on, when my INR sinks below 2) I realized
something very important! My doc prescribed me 55 mg injection. So I get the 60 mg
shot and "shoot off" 5 mg. However, I had been doing this the entire time with the air
bubble at the needle end... so it was counting against the 55 mg. No one EVER told me
that the air bubble should be on the syringe end. I mean, I guess it makes sense, but
these things are so minute that its hard to know. Please be careful with your
measurements! I think I've been at about 40 mg this whole time, when I should have
been at 55. Scary. No wonder one of clots extended!!!! I'm completely mortified.
