DVT deep vein thrombosis forum

One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

In a FootSmart catalog I received today there are foot-less calf supports 18-24mm, not enough pressure for me, I need 20-30mm.
For you people looking for them I am sure they are at footsmart.com. Colors are beige, white and black.

I was told by an orthopedic surgeon in November that oral heparin would be available in a couple of months negating the need for blood tests and nil side effects. I can't find any information on this.
Has anyone else heard anything?

DVT in Both Arms

I was left with DVT of both arms after being in the hospital for 3 days with IV's in both arms. After the DVT's were discovered, I was on Lovenox injections daily for 8 months. However, now I need 2 more surguries and I am terrified of having an IV.

Anyone else have this experience? If so, did your Dr. treat you after surgury with blood thinner?

I was quite shocked at these type of accusations being posted. I've used the site for some time and been really grateful that others have taken the time to be informative, supportive and have enjoyed the debates! I, personally, have found NO evidence of "bullying" individuals on this forum and am concerned that others feel that way. There are a few simple steps if you feel you have been "bullied".
1. Ignore the culprit
2. "Fight back" verbally(its a computer and you are really in no danger physically). This is to say give your own opinion (all are valued if not necessarily agreed with)
3. Post the moderator
4. Don't give out personal info if you're not comfortable.
5. Remember there are few of us with academic qualifications which support our views - we usually deal in experience.
Sometimes people who post (I assume) are going through bad times in their lives and they may behave slightly inappropriately. I think this is understandable. Can any of you really say you h... read more

I was diagnosed with a DVT just above my knee 1 1/2 years ago. I recieved coumadin for one year and was taken off it 6 months ago. I was also diagnosed with having factor V. I recently developed numbness and pain but not severe in that same leg. I was sent to a local hostpital here in Korea and the doctor told me that I have a 95% blockage in one of the two deep veins just below the knee. I'm waiting to see the Army doctor in a couple of days but was wondering if I will need treatment for this since it is below the knee.

PE Healing Time

Any advise on when you can exercise or go back to normal when you were diagnosed with PE? Is this longer than DVT?
I had DVT and was diagnosed with PE at the time as I remembered having some shortness of breath when running (more than usual), but that was it. So it was confirmed with a CT scan. On warfarin for 6 months.
I assume it was a small clot, but want to get back into exercise...I am about a month into my Warfarin. Thanks.

Groin superficial clots

Hi everyone,
I am wondering if anyone out there is in my situation. I am around 20kg overweight and walk about 10 km a day to help lose weight.(I am fit as I have been doing this for around 6monts now. ) I am finding however that even though I am on warfarin that the pressure from walking is causing blood clots in my groin. They are only superficial ones and I have even had one on the labia minora and not far from that area. At the moment I have one just on my underwear line down there. Is there anyone out there that gets groin clots?
Sorry if this sounds crass but I really need to know if anyone else has had this or if I am just going to die or something.
Thanks in advance.

First time poster here. Love this site as there are many questions you can't seem to get from the doctors. I had been diagnosed 3 weeks ago with DVT in my left leg (mid thigh down to the calf) and a clot in each lung. I found out when I thought I had a pulled muscle in my calf after playing racquetball (I am 39 and active), so after a week of gimping around I got it checked to find it was a clot and when asked about the shortness of breath...I said no, but remembered I was laboring more than usual when running (just wrote it off to being a bit out of shape). Anyway, sure enough the PE kept me in the hospital for 4 days. I am still trying to find out about my clot size, locations, etc...but getting info is just impossible with these doctors (especially my GP). I am on Warfarin for 6 months as my treatment.
So three weeks today into my treatment, my leg pain is basically gone. About over a week ago it still hurt to stand still and walk - no issue with that today. I did get swelling ... read more

Hey there, i'm worrying a lot at the moment and was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm 23 and yesturday have just come form the UK to lake tahoe for the winter season. I am aware of DVT and on the plane made sure i walked around and did simple exercises to keep my legs active and the blood flowing. However after the long haul flight we had a long car journey from san fran to Tahoe, i feel asleep and woke up with my leg aching and throbbing, it got a little better but i still feel a slight aching through my leg and behind my knee and its the following day. I'm starting to worry that i got a DVT and am wondering could it be anything else or is it likely to be a DVT? Any help would be much appreciated as i'm worrying a lot at the moment.

I am starting the petition for the ''tell the joke'' on the forum.

We all have been a wee bit pre-occupied with other aspects on the forum. Its a black humoured joke about Sir Paul Macartney and his wife Linda.

If you want me to tell it please append names below.

Have a good time and be safe

Hello everybody,
I am a 45 yr old male in Wales, UK, fit, non smoker, no other contibuting factors. About 10 days ago I had the worst ever case of viral gastroenteritis which laid me up for 6 days and, despite me drinking as much as I could I was dehydrated. Last Weds morning (its Sat morning now) I woke up to find my right calf swollen and painful. Hobbled around on it for the day then went to see my GP on Thursday who rushed me off to the local hospital. I was too late for a scan that day so was given a shot of heparin in my belly and told to come back at 9am the next morning (Fri) for a scan. Did so and it showed a clot (the vein looked about 80% blocked to my untrained eye)in my right inner thigh, about 2" above my knee to about 2" below my groin. I was given another heparin jab and some to take home for my wife to administer and tonight I must take 10mgs of warfarin at 6pm, then tomorrow heparin and 10mgs more warfarin at 6pm. On Monday I am back at the hospital for bloods to ... read more

Last posting seems to have degenerated into personal opinions/argument so felt needed to be addressed sensibly! Poor me - I've got a cold too!

Firstly if you are able to get to your pc or haul your laptop onto your knees in bed YOU DO NOT HAVE FLU only a cold!

Medication: It is best to avoid meds with asprin in them as acts as anticoagulant unless prescribed by GP (even then I'd question it). Be wary of a lot of "over the counter meds" as many do contain asprin ALWAYS READ THE LABEL! Paracetamol is usually the way to go to get rid of aches and pains (or a combination of Paractemal/Codeine which I've been prescribed for pain generally). Those with liver/kidney/stomach problems should ALWAYS get expert advice! I've yet to see any real evidence that taking vitamin supplements helps unless you are not eating properly for a considerable time - by then you should have seen GP.

Diet: Drink loads of water - you'll probably be dehydated - this will make symptoms appear worse!... read more

iam 31, tore my calf muscle on the 13th september, diagnosed with DVT in lower leg around 7 days later, started warfarin been on that now for nearly 3 months. i don't get any pain in the leg, my INR is 2.5 consistantly. i want to start running again, dr tells me to give it another month, physio won't work on my calf until Dr gives him the ok. i feel my legs doing pretty good at the moment, but still a little concerned if i start too early i might make it worse? i used to play sport 4 nights a week so this is really giving me the shits.
any advice for me would be great.
