One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Anyone else experiencing this? I have some "itchy spots" developing. On my back, neck, shoulders, and now just recently a couple of spots on my stomach. My head has started to itch. And now some mild rash in my armpits. Now what do I do? I think it is related to Warfarin as I found this other thread:

http://www.topix.com/forum/drug/coumadin/TOGIBS5VONLMAELJH

Can I get a substitute anticoagulant? I don't think I continue like this as it seems to be spreading....... all started after about 6 months on Warfarin

So, for about the past six months or so, off and on, I've been getting
these pains in my leg,I get a sharp pain right behind my knee close to
the inside of the leg. I get a throbbed pain by the groin, and a burning
achy pain on the inside of the calf. Over the course of six months,
really spread out, I've had 3 ultrasounds, all normal, and a d dimer,
also normal. I have NEVER injured this leg, I'm fairly lazy so it isn't
exercise related. Anyways, did about the past week, the pain has been
building in this leg, to the point where today, the whole lower leg has
a very intense ache. I made a trip to the emergency room, the triage
doctor, poked and prodded the leg a bit, then stated that he didn't
want to do any tests because he didn't think it was anything dangerous.
Then he offered me some ibuprofen and told me i could leave. So I'm
terribly worried that it is dvt and is just being missed. Any advice
would be greatly appreciated. The leg has also had a ... read more

Vascular surgery to remove hardened blood clot

I have DVT in the left leg, was given Warfarin as my only treatment. Three months later, I was discharged by a vascular surgeon, told to wear a sock and "handle it." WEll, I am not going to "handle it."

I will now get a second opinion and will not back down until I find a vascular doctor and an interventional radiologist to remove the hardened clots in my leg.

Could anyone share their success stories regarding surgery to remove hardened blood clots?

Long standing calf pain

I started having calf pain last March, negative d dimer. Despite
numerous GP visits he would not refer me for ultrasound so I paid to see
a vascular surgeon who said I had thrombophlebitis and it would resolve.
He did a quick ultrasound while I was standing. That was mid April.
Slight improvement but saw NHS vascular surgeon in early June. He did
more thorough ultrasound and said no dvt. Inbthe meantime, due to a mix
up I got another NHS appointment for end July. Pain still there but not
as bad. So I went anyway. I think he was a bit peeved as I'd already
been cleared of dvt a month before but I had an ultrasound anyway, it
was clear and he more or less said don't come back!
Well now the pain in my calf is horrendous, I can hardly walk, there is
slight reddening and a large surface vein visible. It hurts all the time
-sitting, standing, walking, lying. Not realy swollen but my whole leg
feels warm inside, I'm very tired as well. Is it. Really possible that ... read more

Hi, I am looking for any information about having symtoms like being dizzy, out of breath, chest and arm pains.
If I do a minemum of work such as bending down and getting up I will be totally winded within 1 -2 min. I can be rested go up two flights of stairs I breath heavy and my legs feel like lead weights. I have had my heart checked wiht stress test, blood work and a angiogram.(I think thats what its called when the run the camera up your leg to the heart, and that was good. I had my DVT to my leg 2 years this Thanksgiving. The pain never left. They did not disolve it, just left it do what ever. If anyone has or knows anyone with this sort of symtoms and being related with DVT I would very much appreciate it. Thanks

ARG!

I had my hose all of three weeks before I tore a nice hole in the knee of one of them. Thanks to an anklet.

Has anyone experienced this? What did you do to fix it? Anything? I soooo don't want to buy another pair for $100! I am using the other stocking right now...but...wanted to wear these for a while and am already down to one! Oops!

Have you fixed it yourself? I was thinking of trying that elastic thread...Or have you taken it in? Or just thrown it away?

Thanks!!

Abrazos.

Sciatica symptoms or dvt

I started with Sciatica symptoms over four weeks ago three days
before I woke up with a swollen left leg which turned out to be a
dbt. I had thrombolysis op & it cleared the clot. I was in hospital
for two weeks where I was on heparin then 2 weeks later in
discharge I was also started on warfarin, my one has stabled at 2.5
so I'm now off the Heparin injections. My worry is I've been
getting Sciatica symptoms again for the past few weeks & I'm a bit
worried it could be a undiagnosed blood clot, no swelling od let
though. Perhaps I just have Sciatica, which ive never had before, &
am worrying for nothing. Anybody any idea? Thanks in advance.

Iíve just had my second DVT diagnosed. The first was last March. Treatment finished in October and having started back on some serious training in January I was hit by this blow just this week.

Apart from being stuck between completely fed up at the thought of surgical stockings for two years and warfarin for life and grateful that it can be treated, my head is buzzing with questions.

How many other people get the second diagnosis despite keeping fit and healthy and having a healthy diet?

So why is it that nobody seems to know where these things come from?

Are there any useful sources of research that can be looked at?

Are there any good sources of advice on the kind of exercise that can be done after a second diagnosis? After the first DVT I didnít seem to be allowed to do anything. Eventually this morphed into a bit of swimming and I could try my hand at a spot of Salsa (nothing wrong with that in itself). Now the consultant that I have seen this week says I ca... read more

Hi
Im 31 female-I have a dvt in my groin on my left side-no swelling etc
This was diagnosed 2 weeks ago after getting muscular type pain in my calf
Its been suggested a flight could be the cause
Im on rivaroxaban (15mg twice a day then dropping next week to 20mg once a
day) for the next 6 months
I would like to know what i should expect pain wise whilst waiting for the clot to
disperse
Im currently feeling aches and pains in different parts of my leg-still no swelling
or redness
I feel uneasy not knowing if i should still feel pain whilst on the meds? For how
long? And also anything i can do to ease the aches and pain
Any info would be brill
Thanks

Residual Clotting

I'm a little concerned about my situation so I'm reaching out to this board to see if anyone has any additional information that can help me.

In Oct '06, I was diagnosed with a DVT, right leg, ankle to knee. Well, here I am 18 months later and have just been told I have residual clotting still, behind the knee. I was also told this last October and was hoping for improvement by now but there has been absolutely no change these last 6 months.

My vascular surgeon doesn't feel the coumadin (or warfarin, rather) is doing anything for me at this point so I'm being tapered down to 2.5mg with no INR stats to maintain - I'll be using coumadin similar to an aspirin therapy. I go back for another ultrasound in 3 months.

I asked if she had ran into any cases before like mine where the clot just wouldn't go away and all she told me was mine was an "abnormal" case. This just isn't sitting well with me - it seems like there should be something someone could do so I am going to go for... read more

Hello, have landed on this site thru searching www. Today (Friday) I have had a positive d - dimer test and been started on clexane 150mg. The hospital has said i can have a scan next Thursday but is it an Xray or an USS and if it is an Xray, does that pick up clots? I am in so much pain and have taken two paracetamol but do have Co-Codamol but not sure if i can take that with the clexane. Also is it safe to have the scan so far long away or is that normal NHS timescales? hope someone can help me.

I was diagnosed with a DVT behind my left knee in OCT 2006. After 3mnths of Warfarin, a duplex showed normal and the medication was stopped. I still have leg pain and several more duplex scans have been done which all showed nothing remarkable. Other causes of pain have been ruled out: No RSD, Compartment Syndrome, Cancer, Muscle Diseases, nerve entrapment, etc. The duplex ultrasounds were done lying down - I wonder if I should have been standing for them to accurately see if I have any venous insufficiency? Anyone have any ideas or similar experiences?

Two years ago, I fell downstairs and twisted my ankle pretty well. End up to ER and doctor said there is just a sprinted and put me on boot for my leg/ankle. As I was on the boot, and while asleep, I couldn't sleep so well for 3 days straight, the pain gotten so worst. It's like something is growing inside from my ankle to my knee.....thankful Texas Photo forum saved my life telling me to go ER again. Once I went back to ER and the doctor found blood clot in my leg and of course I was so devastating that is my first blood clot ever. So I stayed in hospital for a week to have those shot in my tummy. And I got on warfart for 8 months and now it's dissolved. I have wore compressed stocking but man it wasn't comfortable at all so I got rid of it after 3 months wearing it. Now it's been 2 years and I still get swelling. Will the swelling ever go away? As of right now I weight 220, 5'4 (I am female) and I am 31 years old. Could the overweight still giving me problem with swelling? I could... read more

Leg Discoloration after DVT

I'm 28 and on July 7th, 2006 was admitted to the hospital with DVT in my leg after about 9 weeks of immobilization following a fracture in my foot. I fortunately, have a sister and mom that told me to go to the doctor after about only 3-4 days of serious pain and swelling. I was on Lovenox for about 10 days and I'm on Coumadin for the next 3-6 months.

My questions is if anyone knows about how long it takes for the redness and swelling to completely subside? I have no pain in my leg, but it is slightly discolored when I stand up and swells a little bit after while. It goes away pretty quickly when I elevate the leg. But, as you can imagine after 9 weeks of elevating my leg for my broken foot, I'm sick of it. I am wondering if this is just from the DVT, but it could be a combination of the fact that I only started walking (from the fracture) this week. I'm a super-active guy and this really through me for a loop.

Some advice I do have to healthy guys (and gals) everywher... read more

Hi, managed to score a DVT from my elbow to my neck. Im on clexane injections and will start warf right after the public holidays, can I drink alcohol, or take ecstacy? I was told I would never be able to take the pill again, but can I have a birth control implant? Ive been getting anxious since finding out about the DVT, is this common? I have been sleeping alot, and feeling really run down, is this a common side effect of clexane? Im in good physical shape, exercise daily and use recreational drugs every couple of months. I also smoke once a fortnight, has anyone else continued smoking since having a DVT?
