One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Hi there

I'm attempting to put together some information regarding DVT and air travel but I'm finding it increasingly difficult. A lot of sites talk about the prevention of first-time DVT as a result of flights and long journeys but I'm interested in the experience of air travel after people have been diagnosed and/or treated for a thrombosis. Do different airlines dispense different advice? Is there a standard clinical response given to patients intending to travel? Are any medications changed in the run-up to a long journey? I don't know an awful lot about the practicalities of treating DVT aside from Warfarin and associated medications so any help or a link to information about Travel Post-DVT would be gratefully accepted.

I am a 40 year old male and on life long Warfarin now for the past 3 years and now have my 3rd DVT. The Consultant does not believe that a test to find the underlyning cause is not worth persuring as I am on life long Warfarin. I am interested to here your thoughts and if there is anything that would help to fix my blood. I also been diagnosed as having PTS. The last ultrasound scan reveiled that I have very poor venos flow, evidence of previous clots and fresh clots above and below my knew, left leg. Warfarin and stockings and not be it for the rest of my life. Thank you.

Probiotics have been found to aid with the absorption of
nutrients, production of vitamin K.

I started eating the Danon Yogurt and wondered... since a lot of vitamin K is produced by the bacteria in your intestine... Would having yogurt help the bacteria.... produce vitamin K and put us in a trouble spot.... Not that I advocating to NOT eat yogurt...
any opinions?

Regarding the dispute of YILUKAYI DVT EXERCI

Regarding the dispute of YILUKAYI DVT EXERCISER
The most important reason of DVT is that you have sitting there too long a time, and the blood of your legs and feet can't get a good circulation. It is well known that the real promise of ECS is prediction. I feel for your disease very much. Although I have a admiration for the functions and effects of the elastic stockings, out of question,it is offensively restricted, and can't eliminate effectively the feelng of numbness and swelling in the legs and feet, especially during the flight. However YILUKAYI DVT EXERCISER can live up to the above-mentioned two points, not only instimulate the circulation of blood but also avoid the feeling of numbness and swelling of the legs and feet. It is very good for preventing DVT. Why do you want to object it? Just because of my bad English, I am really very sorry but I haven't had a good and effective communication with you.

Has anyone made his or her closed toe support hose into open toe. I have opaque thigh high Medivens since the end of August, walking 5 miles a day has worn holes in the toes. Just how difficult would it be to make them open toe. Has anyone tried this fix? My Medivens were $60.00 and I do not want to buy another pair.

DVT in right ankle and heel

I have just found this forum and have to tell you a bit of my history. When I was 18
yrs. old, I had my first DVT in my left leg due to surgery and being on birth control
pills. 20 yrs. later, I had another incident in a superficial vein. Then, I found out that I
have Factor V Leiden. They decided to put stents into my iliac vein (I have 3) and put
me on lifetime coumadin. Another Dr., same place said I can stop coumadin as I'm too
young. I tried everything else (herbal etc.), but the other day I had pain in my right leg.
I NEVER had this in my right leg, only my left! So, they finally gave me an ultrasound
to find I have a DVT in my ankle, heel and calf. It is painful and I can't have my foot
down for a long time. I'm on Lovenox now and feel dizzy s.t., too.

Did anyone experience the same? Having a blood clot on the left and right side? And
what about the right ankle and heel???

have been experirencing some pain in back of my thigh from back of knee up to mid
thigh. It hurts most when I sit and especially when I squat. Sometimes it feels like my
foot is going to sleep BUT there is no swelling. Is there always swelling with a DVT?

Worried about my Mother

My mother was diagnosed with DVT last week; two large clots that extend from her knee to her groin. She has been given some medications including an injection she meeds to give herself.

She is 48, quit smoking a year ago and uses the contraceptive pill.

The vascular specialist is concerned because he says there doesn't seem to be a reason for the clots. She hasn't been on a flight, is not overweight, etc.

I've been Googling about it and now and it seems like many unexplained DVT can be attributed to hidden cancers. She's had a cough for a couple of years that she puts down to allergies. :(

A few months ago she broke a bone in her foot and had to wear a special boot each day, but she was never immobilised because of this, so the vascular doctor didn't seem concerned by this. But could the broken bone have triggered the blood clots? She also has an overactive thyroid and is being medicated for this... not sure if that is relevant.

Anyway the vascular specialist is havin... read more

Hi. Four years ago when I was 38 I started taking a new prescription birth control called Seasonale, only to regulate my cycle. I tied my tubes in 1992. Never had any medical problems other than obnoxious cycles. About that same time my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Within three weeks (22 pills) of starting this new pill, I started not feeling well. I was constantly nauseated, threw up every day, couldn't sleep, had terrible pain in my left foot, the worst headaches ever, my back killed me, a sharp pain started in my left calf. I stopped taking the pill because I couldn't keep anything down. Thinking this whole time that I was just stressed out because of my mom. It's gotta be stress. It got to where I couldn't breathe a full breath. My poor husband finally convinced me it was something more than stress. The doctor ruled out everything (pneumonia, pluricy (sp)) the only thing he thought it could be was blood clots. So off to the ER we go. They did a blood test an... read more

travel after DVT

Hi all,
My husband had a DVT in the upper leg in January at an IV site after coronary bypass
surgery. He has just been diagnosed with another DVT in the calf of the opposite leg
and has gone back on Coumadin. We were on a 3 1/2 hour flight just previous to the
most recent diagnosis. Does anyone have experience concerning travel by plane and car
after DVT, or how long you should wait to do either? I know wearing compression hose
is highly recommended. He is retiring and has really been looking forward to the
opportunity to travel. Thanks.

Extended discomfort in both feet after flight

Hi, just to give you a bit of a bio, I'm 6'2", a large guy 130kg (290lb) and have had varicose veins around my ankles for a while now. I've also had a constant, minor pain at the top of my foot for several years but attributed this to being a large guy.

Last Friday I travelled 8.5 hours on a business trip, In economy. Normally after I travel my feet swell up a little but it goes away within a day. Four days later both feet are still swollen. I can walk with no real discomfot but the inside of my feet (opposite side to my ankles) feels tight, even more so when i flex my foot forward.

After reading a little about DVT, I'm a little concerned as I just went and had a foot massage in the hope of helping it. The foot massage was painful and am now thinking it may not have been the best idea. During the massage all the areas I've previously listed were painful with some minor discomfort in my calf.

I'd appreciate any feedback as I'm scheduled to fly back on Friday.

I have been on Clexane 40 mg injections since April 08. Since then i have been passing dark color stool. I do the regular stool check, but it doesn't show the presence of blood in it.
Has anybody experienced this...or does someone have anything to say on this, as to what could be the cause.

Multiple PE, no DVT, in Teen

Hey everyone! I'm only 19 and I was diagnosed with multiple pulmonary emboli a few weeks ago. Since then I've been on all ranges of coumadin from 5mg to 12 mg, with the does changing every few days because my blood won't stablize. I was also on Lovenox shots for a while, but even those caused my INR to get above a 6. NOT GOOD! The first day after stopping all meds because my INR was too high, the INR was 4.04, and the day after at a 1.77. That day they started my Coumadin back up at 6mg, which seemed to have little or no effect since that was yesterday and today my level was at 1.22. Tomorrow is my appointment with the hematologist and i was wondering what to expect. My fiance comes home from Iraq in less than two months and we are suppose to be getting married shortly thereafter, so I want to be healthy! Anyone know my chances of that? I'm also enrolled in 17 hours at the college here in town and these DR visits everday are starting to hurt me a little...any suggestions? Any advice... read more

What else causes sharp pain in the calf??

Hi all, as some of you already know I was diagnosed with DVT & PE in July. I've been on Coumadin ever since. For the last few days I noticed my feet and ankles were swollen, then I started having sharp, stabbing pain in my L calf. I was advised to go immediately to the Emergency room. Long story short, after an ultrasound and CT scan I was told the DVT & PE had not gotten any worse. That sounds to me like they are still there. How long does it take for them to dissolve? what could be causing the sharp almost unbearable pain in my leg?
