DVT deep vein thrombosis forum

Welcome to the DVT deep vein thrombosis open discussion forum. Please feel free to start a new topic or reply to any existing topics. No need to register to use this forum. Just feel free to share your experiences of DVT.

One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

2 DVT's in 1 year

I developed a DVT in my thigh & PE in the lung in October 2007. I was put on warfarin for 6 months and when I finished the course no scans or anything were done and I was told to just carry on with normal life. Last Tuesday I developed another DVT in my calf of the same leg, scans were done and the old clot in thigh had still not cleared and have new clot in the calf. I have been told I will now be on warfarin for life (I am only 33), I don't realy relish the thought of tablets and clinics for the rest of my hopefully long life. Does anyone know of any operations that can be done to clear the veins or even vein replacement.

Pain nowhere near the clot

Okay wondering about pain sensations. I was diagnosed 1.5 weeks ago with a clot in my left arm between elbow and shoulder - about 2 inches in length. All said it was Superfical until vascular surgeon looked at it and said "more like deep vein". Anyway, I was sent home last thursday and told to take 4 aspirin a day and come see him again this friday. I wonder why......does he think it'll get worse?

Anyway, the pain I had was from the infection and within a day or two of taking antibiotics all swelling and pain has gone away and my arm feels pretty normal; however just a few minutes ago I felt some throbbing pain in my left hand near my thumb. It lasted 5 minutes or so and then went away. Is this related to my clot situation? The area in which the clot is doesn't hurt at all.

Curious,
Thanks
Christina

commuter with dvt

I am 25 and was diagnosed in may 2008.I also commute 2 hours a day to and from school and until I went back for the fall semester I didn't have any pain that wasn't atleast bearable and now that I am commuting again my legs cramp all the time. I can't sit in class for more than 10 minutes without going nuts.

Is anyone a commuter with dvt, if so what are some ways to relieve the pain. I am getting no where with my doctor. Gatorade, bananas and aspirin are his suggestion and they aren't helping.

Also, I get so nervous about the blood clot recurring and I feel like a worry-wort every time I get a pain or if my chest(breathing) feels slightly off. -is this a common worry?

Thanks... Nikki

Wacky INRs???

My INRs seem to bounce around like a rubber ball. Every Christmas they drop - and the only thing we can determine causes it is the mandarin oranges and cranberries (I go nuts at Christmas for oranges!). In the summer, I also get a huge drop - cherries, peaches, all that nice fresh fruit is too hard to resist.
Yesterday my INR, which I'm supposed to keep between 2.5-3.5 was down to 1.4. The reason - I started Centrum Forte 2 days ago - and it contains 25mcg Vitamin K. That's the only thing I've done different - so it has to be the cause. Anyone else have such sensitive INRs?

Diagnosed with dvt behind left knee August 12, 2008 my knee was swollen for two months before that. Wasn't till ankle and calf swelled that they sent me to ER. On Warfarin my knee is still swollen in the front and back doctor is just now considering it might have something to do with the dvt acts like he's hasn't seen that before. I lay around and kept it elevated most of the time but no change. Has anyone else had this experience and does it take month's to or longer to ever go away or get any better?

I have a clot in left arm. Diagnosed last week after having IV in arm from surgery on August 20th. Was seen in ER last Sunday, said it was superficial phlebitis, but the vascular surgeon I went to see said looks more like deep vein. Started 4 adult aspirins a day but tonight I bled from vagina....as the whole reason for surgery was a D&E and I had not bled since surgery but looks like the aspirin made the blood thin.
Okay so I talked to the Vascular dr. tonight and he said to now lower the dose from 4 aspirin a day to just two a day.
I can't sleep. I lay here almost petrified.
How do you all keep going on without anxiety making your stone cold and fearful?!

I need help. I have two kids and have never gone through anything like this. I really am afraid. I never expected an IV to give me a clot.

Can anybody help me and tell me how you get through the day and night?

Thanks and God Bless.

Hi, Had a clot break off inside my right calf 10 days ago resulting in PE. 5 days in the hospital and now 7.5 coumadin for 12 months. I was wondeing wehter my chest tighness and lightheadness will subside? My pulimologist doesnt see scaring in my recent lung Xray and my heart passed the pharmachologal stress test-fine. Looks like I have had the DVT for 8 years and it came up after my arthroscopic surgery a month ago.

What is going on with all of the garbage on this forum? It is getting really hard to read new posts when old ones keep coming to the top with nothing on them. I am so tired of seeing "scared by Jon" as well as other ones that indicate a reply but there is none. There is also crap that keeps appearing having nothing to do with the topics that should appear here. We need a new place to go or clean this one up!

Hello my name is Jeanette but people call me Nettie. Iamnettie is the screen name I use on almost everything. Some background on me:

I am 32 years old, mother of 3 kids, we home school so I am always on the go.

On Aug. 22nd I have orthroscopic surgery on my knee, they scrapped the back of my knee cap and ended up drilling into my femur as there is no longer any cartilage there. So I am crutches for 6 weeks and on zero weight bearing for 6 weeks. All was well till my calf started hurting, they did an ultra sound of both legs on Tuesday 26th and said I had a DVT in my leg. I was in the hospital for 2 1/2 days on Heparin and Coumadin and then sent home with Lovenox shots (2 times a day - I HATE THEM) and Coumadin. I am to go to the Coumadin Clinic tomorrow in the mean time I am so scared and confused of what this means for the rest of my life. I have been reading and have seen horror stories of what might happen to me in the future.

All I have been told is I will... read more

hi, 3 weeks ago returned from a holiday to spain complaining of severe pain in calf. not really a doctors man but because of the severity of the pain i went to the local a&e only because it was round the corner and was diagnosed with an extensive dvt after all the d dimer and scans. unbeleivable i am only 34,work in the building trade fit, healthy how can it happen to me . the consultant blames it on drinking in the sun on holiday as the flight was only 2 and a half hours long . sorry if i seem depressing but warferin for 6 months (7.5 mg) just seems ages away, how do i know if it has cleared,if there are any more etc? they wont scan again . i have read a lot of stories in this forum and i know there are a lot worse of than me, thanks for reading .

I am a 48 year old female just diagnosed Aug. 12, 2008. Had a swollen left knee for 2 months and had alot of pain in my calf for 5 days went to doctor they xrayed tried to pull fluid out of knee, nothing. Tried to do at least 15 min. on eliptical after that calf and ankle swelled they told me to go to ER did ultrasound found dvt. Haven't smoked for 16 years, don't fly, no birth control pills doesn't run in family until 70's or 80's. I think it was because I was inactive because of knee being swollen for 2 mo. I left a message for my doctor about support hose his nurse said they don't recommend them for people like me my knee is still swollen took arixtra for 6 days on warfarin then doctor responds you can get the hose. He also said 6 days ago I could move 10% more in which before I was basically in bed. Now he says in a message on the 17th day I can move around alot more as much as my knee can take it. I guess the nurse tells me one thing the doctor that didn't see me today says a... read more
