One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Mesenteric Thromus - Partially Canalized

Hi

I've found this forum very helpful over the past few months and have been encouraged by simply knowing there are plenty of other people dealing with similar issues, but I have never posted, until now. I am hoping just to hear some people's experiences, that mirror my own and put together a fuller picture of what the future might hold.

I am a previously healthy, 27 year old male. Back in Dec 2007 I was diagnosed with a perforated appendix which was swiftly removed. I was informed that had I gone much longer without treatment I would have had a 'dead bowel' and that the CT scan had revealed a thrombus in my Superior Mesenteric Vein. I started Warfarin in January and had been taking it until last month when I switched back to Fragmin in order to have a number of blood tests and another CT scan, the results of which would have been compromised/incorrect if I was still on Warfarin. Throughout this 7 month period I've suffered with horribly acute anxiety, panic attacks and depr... read more

I noticed that my left ankle and foot looked swollen 3 weeks ago and the next day experienced pain in my calf and numbness in my toes.

I visited my G.P. who referred me to A&E where they gave me a Clexane injection in my stomache and told me to come back the next day for a scan.

Having paid 13 for a round trip to the hospital I was then told that I was only there to make an appointment for a scan (I'm still miffed) they gave me another Clexane jab and I went back the next day for my actual scan which showed that I have a clot below my knee.

I have not been immobile, had surgery or travelled. The only thing they can link it to is the cancer drugs I finished taking last July.

Since then I have been twice to the clinic for blood testing. I am on Warfarin plus my 3rd week of injecting myself with Clexane. The places to inject without bruises are becoming scarce.

I know the clinic is busy but no-one has the time to talk to you. It's as though they are not at all intereste... read more

May-Thurner pregnancy with stents

Hi all, my name is alex and last october my wife found out that she has may thurners. After three hospital visits, and two stents she is now doing ok. She ran a lot before this happened, and for the past two months has been running again on her eliptical. So not a bad recovery considering her clot was from her pelvis to her toes, and in her lungs.

My question is: does anybody know of anyone who has may-thurner with stents and gotten pregnant? Or has anyone heard anything about getting pregnant with stents? We get mixed reviews from different doctors.

We are in our mid twenties and would like to start a family soon. We just dont know if we should adopt or try to have one of our own. thanks.

hi peeps
i went to doctors yesterday thinking that after 3/4 months of tests and taking warfarin that i would be coming off warfarin (dvt lower left) ,and that the doc would arrange a scan so my mind would be put at rest blood clot gone that sort of thing!! but NO he said 6 months maybe a year to take warfarin and then just stop taking it if i have no syptoms, and also to let HIM know when my 6 months is up and the clinic!!! just say dont take it anymore , i was gob smacked
they want me just to stop the warfarin just like that and NO scan to see if clot has cleared ,how do they know if the clots has gone and your no longer clotting??? is this normal practice , and how do you know the clot has dispersed
???? after all these weeks of being ill dont we at least get the respect of a proper end result and consultation

Diagnosed in April before flying for work. I obviously didn't go on the trip. Hospital for 2 days on Heparin. Lovenox for a few weeks and coumadin. Lost hair. None of my blood tests came back with a reason for this occurance. Any one else get a dvt for no apparent reason? I am a little nervous as I was told that if you have "cancer" this could be a tell tale sign.

Hi, I have had extensive dvt in one then both legs for 5 months now and currently take warfarin, which i will be stopping next month. What i am wondering is, what are the symptoms of dvt in the arm as i cant seem to find out much information about this. is it the same as when i developed one in my leg, in other words you just know you've got one as you have never experienced such pain before! I am asking this because about 2 weeks ago i got a really bad pain in my elbow area on my left arm (same side i developed 1st clot in leg) and i haven't knocked it that i am aware of. when my arm is bent the pain is not too bad but when i move it to pick something up or carry something or just flex my arm, boy does it hurt. even when clenching my hand tight i feel it pulling and hurting. sorry if i have gone on a bit but just looking for some advice before i see my gp as they are not very sympathetic and always very busy, so if anyone can tell me the symptoms of arm dvt i would be very gratefu... read more

Hello,
I am new to this site, but, have found it interesting to read many of the posts. I am in the process of my doctor "ruling out" May-Thurner's Syndrome. I will be going for a CT Scan, Ultrasound and X-Rays this week. My M.D. does believe this is my problem. I was diagnosed several weeks ago with a DVT in my left leg. Then from nowhere I had such terrible pain in my left leg I could just about walk! I wound up in the E.R. 2 days in a row; and they found another blood clot. I am on cumidin, and in the process of having tests done. Is there light at the end of the tunnel? I am 48, female, have varicose veins in the same leg, but weigh only 105. The pain is horrible...how do all of you deal with the pain? The ER doctors gave me muscle relaxants; percoset, vicodin, and misc. other drugs....none of which even touched the pain. My PCP told me to just take Motrin. My vascular surgeon told me not to as I am on 7mg of Cumidin/day. Does anybody have any helpful advice? It ... read more

Hi is anyone intersted in starting this new thread for the above link as i dont know about other people but i have trouble trying to read the latest threads on this subject as cant seem to get to the latest page.

my question was can anyone tell me what to expect from my 6 months appointment at the warfarin clinic? ive beeen on warfarin for 6 months now due to extensive dvt from groin to ankle in both legs. i wondered do they take you straight of the warfarin, do they offer any more scans to see the state of play, do they do any blood tests? it is a bit of a scarey thought coming off the warfarin. hope someone from the uk can help me with this query

From what I understand, starting warfarin is NOT advisable without heparin... Warfarin at LOW Blood levels when starting up MAY cause blood clots.. True /False...

Usually when starting up warfarin , heparin (or lovenox) is given as it IS immediately effective... True/False...

You can Just stop warfarin with no side affects... True/False...

Pregnant with CVI

Hi everyone!
With all the great info I've already gotten from everyone here, I was hoping someone might have some info:

I am 25 yrs old, and my husband and I are talking about starting a family in the next couple of years. in March 2007 I had a large DVT (calf to thigh). This was caught very quickly, and after 6 mos coumadin treatment, doppler U/S showed that there is no residual clot in my leg, my body absorbed it. However, the ultrasound showed lots of vein damage - grade 4 vein reflux in 3 deep veins, and 4 superficial veins (refluxing from my groin to my calf).

I was wondering what effect pregnancy has on this? The pain and swelling in my leg is already fairly pronounced (my bad leg is roughly 2 inches larger then my good).

I don't believe I'm at a huge risk for another clot (no genetic factors, and not on the pill), but I'm concerned about the vein reflux.

I have compression socks, but wearing them is so painful, and they did very little to help me.

Has an... read more
