One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Was diagnosed DVT r. leg last May - completed Warfarin at Xmas. Would like to know of others experiences. Having trouble with stockings due to severe excema. Also L. leg now showing symptoms - losing use of L. hand! Had my spleen out approx 10 years ago due to lack of platelets. Pains at night in legs awful so dont sleep - breathing poor. Work has become impossible (drive disability bus) so am off sick. Am trawling through site slowly. Dr doesnt seem sympathetic! Feel like am skivving work consequently feeling vulnerable! Am I a sad case or what?

deep pain in front left calf

Hi all, I'm really making myself nervous. I started feeling this sharp deep pain in my lower calf around 2:00 this afternoon. I figured I was just wiped out from all the stress I have been under lately. So I decided to lay down and put my feet up. The pain still hasn't stopped it starts in the lower calf and then kinda moves up a little way up my leg. I guess it starts out like an ache but then kinda stings. All I know is its about 11:30 at night and now I'm afraid if it is a blood clot and will break loose before I can call a doctor in the morning. Does anyone know if this could happen that fast or does it usually not all happen that fast? I'm not sure if I'm short of breath do the whats going on in my leg or if I'm just getting anxious worrying I may not make it through the night!

I've been on this forum but have yet posted anything but this is my story. I went to a local ER on a Sunday in June with pain in my lower calf. The ER doctor said I "think" you have blood clot...your left left is about 1 to 2 inches bigger than your right. Ordered blood work, and said again your blood work seems to show that you may have a blood clot. I was sent home with a RX for Lovenox injection (80 mg) and come back to the hospital tomorrow to have Ultra Sound (Doppler).

Results of Doppler, negative. Went to my general physician and since the results were negative. I was told that I was suffering from Achilles Tedonitis. I was put on Loratab for pain and inflammatory meds. Next week I wasn't getting any better, back to the GP again. Okay now he prescribed something stronger for the swelling. Next week still no better sent me to physical therapy to help since I could barely walk, they thought maybe I was suffering from Bursitis...new meds again getting worse. The GP... read more

Need Help Please

My name is Xavier I am 32 7ft tall and about 480lbs now. A few years back I had gotten up close to 600 lbs. I had been diagnosed with DVT from having a clot in my leg. Just like Rob's picture on the front page my leg swelled up nicely. The clott brought Cellulitos with it, and from then on a host of all these new and strange ailments. Now about four years later. I am 100 lbs down and basically living the Warafin life.

I do not have a doctor per say I go to a Clinic. I have no insurance and the kicker I take about 13mg a day to keep me correct.

My question is an odd one, and more a blood thinner question than a clotting one. My wisdom teeth became impacted last month and I have been hunting for dental help. I was wondering how long one should be off the blood thinners before you have dental work done ?

Hope that was not a dumb question no one will give me a straight answer, they say refer to your doctor and sadly at the moment I do not have one.

Any help would be apprecia... read more

I've come across this abstract from a paper outlining a study of 355 patients post DVT. I will warn you that it makes for a grim read in places but for those of you that want to know what the future MAY have in stall read:

My hubby completed the study, and the rather large clot in his leg and knee area is just about all gone. I would say the major problem with the drug was nausea. Apparently that is what it gave him, every morning and sometimes during the day. He was on Phase III, three month treatment.
I guess it worked well enough, though we are still not supposed to schedule the surgery to fix his knee because it isnt quite gone yet.

Can anyone help? I've been off my coumadin treatment for DVT of my left leg for a while now (had a doppler U/S less than a month ago, confirmed DVT is gone), but my leg is so painful today!!!

I got excited with the nice weather yesterday and went for a short hike (2 hours, including resting my leg every 15 minutes or so). I was told that as long as I wear my knee brace, there's no reason why I can't do something like go to the gym, or go for a short hike. I've been back at the gym for about 3 months now slowly building back the muscle and stamina I've lost over the past year and a half, and haven't had many problems with pain.....but today, my leg is just so painful that I can't wear my comp. stockings, and I can't even wear my knee brace!
I have a desk job where I sit at a computer all day (still have another 4 hours to go!)....I have my leg elevated at my desk and have gone for a couple walks around our parking lot, but it's just not doing anything to take care of the pai... read more

hi, my eldely mum was rushed into hospital four days ago, has a clot apparently up the whole leg, her leg is really swollen and very painfull, they gave her warfarin 10mg three days, now 5mg, they investigated for lung cancer today and i dont think she has that. no idea what her inr is yet but her o2 sat was 93% on admission and is now 96%.

just have a few questions, hope someone can help?

1. how long does the leg remain painfull and swollen?

2. should her leg be elivated at this stage because it isnt.

3. shes on her bed a lot, shouldn't she bave some of those special socks on?

4. how long is the average stay in hospital?

5. with a leg length clot, how does it get better without surgical procedure?

any help appreciated....
