One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

hello, i am new here but i am so happy because i just want to talk to people that understand why i am upset!

i broke my foot in july and after two weeks in a cast, i complained of bad pain in the back of my calf each week at my appointment and called the office two times over the course of the following four weeks. each time i was told that it was just muscle pain because i wasn't using those muscles. he also told me that the swelling would be there for months and not to worry about how swollen my leg was when the cast came off.

well, lo and behold i went for my 4 week check up with the ortho doctor and he said that the swelling looked like a dvt. he sent me to a vascular doctor and the u/s showed the clot.

so, my problem is that now i am on coumadin, i am 38 yo and i feel like my whole life has changed because of this. i am trying not to sound annoyed and believe me, i am very thankful to be alive, but i can't seem to get past this anger at the doctor for not listening... read more

I do like this expression that Diane used to describe her feelings when taking Warfarin.
It fits the way I feel perfectly and it is a good way of expressing how I feel to others.
Thanks Diane

Possible DVT

Hi,

I had a DVT diagnosed in August 2005. This was after finishing a round of chemotherapy and radiotherapy for cancer. I also had a suspected clot a month of so earlier.
I was on warfarin for a number of months.
The only problems I have had is a superficial clot after flying long haul last year.
I have got a really bad muscle pain in my leg and not sure why (not done any strenous exercise). When I had the DVT I didn't have the standard symptons. No swelling to speak of, no redness and walking alleviated the pain rather than making it worse!! I have got at least one risk factor and we did drive across Europe in August....would it take till now to appear?

At what stage do you go to the docs??? Not sure if I am being a worrier or not? Any advice?

What have anyone been told regarding using the leg and letting it swell or keeping it elevated. Is it more important to not let it swell or use the leg, deal with the swelling. What are the dangers of the swelling.

Thanks

Hi.
Just found message board. Was wondering if anyone out there, has had this sort of dvt.Had hysterectomy in 2005,felt unwell after op.Cut along story short, after months of pain, sitting in drs surgery, sure I was going nuts, and trying to get someone to listen to me,was sent to see specalist who said I had chronic pancreatitis,so had 6months of treatment for that, creon tabs, low fat diet, etc.
After feeling no better eventually lost faith in drs, and arranged to see a specialist myself ,the cause was found quickly, but because of all wrong treatments given to me they say nothing can be done because of the rarity of dvt.
Am now on liquid diet, have been for 2mths ,cant eat solid food without extreme pain ,have gone from size 14 to size 10 in 2mths ,listless ,tired all the time ,and cant seem to find anybody who has had this sort of dvt to give any sort of info.
Can anybody out there help,or point me in right direction.
just feel so alone with this .
The dr I am seeing now is in the mi... read more

My husband has been showing all the signs of DVT for about a week and a half. But, now the calf pain and swelling have disappeared. He can walk without hobbling and pain now. Do DVT symptoms come and go? He's still stiff, but he won't go to the doctor. He thinks it's just a pulled muscle. Any advice.

Heart Damage After DVT

Hi guys, Newbie 'Clotter' here :0)

I was wondering whether anyone else had been warned by their doc about heart damage caused by Pulmonary Embolisms? I had a DVT in my leg three months ago which was followed by a PE. When I was being diagnosed they carried out an ECG and apparently the PE had caused my heart to strain and I'd therefore had a 'cellular' heart attack. He told me it'll never cause a problem but that if I had a work health assessment, it would show up. As it happens, it did!

So in case your doc didn't warn you and you have a work health assessment, it can make your ECG look a little funny!

My dad, age 70, is in his 4th week of DVT treatment following hip replacement surgery 7 weeks ago. He has little pain now and the swelling and redness seem to be getting a little better at this point. Just wondering if he can expect to completely recovery and how long does it take? Or is it likely to have problems forever with that leg?

Thanks

I wanted to let everyone know that there is this awesome website called dailystrength.com It has a group for people young and old with DVT's and PE's. It's so amazing and you make connections with people all around that have similar situations and also meet people that can give some great advice. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who have DVT's and PE's. It's outrageous. Please give it a try if you need someone to confide in or if you're just looking for advice.

Pain

Hi all! I was diagnosed with a DVT five days ago...after five days of pain and prolonging the inevitable-taking my uninsured butt into a dr...which ended up being the ER where I was diagnosed. I am 26 years old. Other then taking birth control pills for the past couple of years I had no other risk factors...

But....onto my real reason for stopping in here and my question. The pain. I am in extreme pain still. I have been pretty much completely off my feet for four days now...keeping the affected leg elevated. Everytime I have to get up to use the restroom I am brought to tears over the pain...and this is with the Norcos in me that the Dr prescribed. He has assured me that this pain is normal...but I am really starting to worry now. Is this normal? How much longer can I expect this? The swelling and discoloration has gone down significantly and yet the pain only seems to have gotten worse.

Hi my name is Jimmy Iam 40 years old and was treated in march of 2006 for this DVT my treatment started with louvenox which I took for 2 months and I have been taking 5mg of wafferin to about 7 weeks ago. I stoped this on my own because I fear taking this for so long, its over a year and I went to the emergency room for something completely different and the doctor told me he never heard of anyone being treated for more then 6 months in the most extreme cases. that being said I still have swelling in the left leg as it has like this from the beginingn I dont know to much about it but I do have some pain from time to time and I would like to hear from anyone who knows what the standard proceedure is as the clinic I go to only takes my blood and gives me pills. I allways ask whenare they going to take a ultrasound to see if the DVT is gone? they tell me they dont do that. Any input would be helpful. Thanks Jimmy.

What type of doctor should you see with a DVT after diagnosed at the hospital? My husband's GP has been seeing him but I feel he isn't adequately educated for such a dangerous undertaking.

Isuffered a dvt in june 2007 a couple of weeks after i had fractured my fibula just below my right knee in a works accident. As soon as a dvt was diagnosed in my inner calf not far from the fracture site i was given my orange anti-coagulation booklet and noticed that it stated treat for 6 weeks.Obviosly i had the daily tamazaparin, blood tests and warfarin etc to get my inr on spec.My only point of concern is that my own GP as well as a few other dvt sufferers i know have always believed minimum treatment for 12 weeks as a long accepted norm.i went to hospital for my inr test on friday and was told to increse warfarin fron 3mg to 5mg as result was 1.3, then the guy noticed the 6 weeks on my book and counted the weeks from 23/06/2007 and said your time is up,stop taking warfarin.should i worry about this,or should i be happy that the 6 weeks is an acceptance that i am low risk of further problems and an admission that the dvt was totally due to the fracture ??any replies will be welcom... read more

Getting Pregnant after diagnosed with DVT and

I have actually had two blood clotts (both in the same leg) and luckily have an excellent hematologist who put me on a lifetime of lovanox. I have been trying to get pregnant for the last six months and don't know if being in an anti-coagulative state is making it difficult. Both the hematologist and gyno have differing opinions. Is there anyone out there who had a DVT and has gotten pregnant while on lovonox? Is there anything I should change (maybe heporon?). Please advise... thanks!
