One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Hey all!

How do GP's know when the time is right for you to stop taking coumadin? I've got an appt. on Monday the 29th - and at my last appt. she said this would likely be the time to decide if I continue on the therapy or not. I have a DVT in my left thigh (knee to groin) and also multiple PE's (this all happened in July '06).

I just recently had surgery on my knee for a medial meniscus tear, developed a dvt. Did the lovenknox for 12 days, and now on coumadin. Hopefully finally getting levels under control, still having blood drawn 2 times a week. Question, my doctor tells me I will be on coumadin for 3-6 months??? Last week starting having the same pain in the calf, spoke with doctors nurse this is normal? Will I always have a problem with possible of another dvt occuring? Read up on taking coumadin in relation to diet?? The do's and don't's still not sure?? Need to quit smoking for number one. Would love to go on diet, but articles I read should not change diet. Now 3 weeks s/p (r) knee and still having knee pain, and numbness??? Just looking for advise. Thanks
I was told will go back in a while to have another ultra sound??? What over the counter meds can be taken for headache? Flu symptoms.

Could I have DVT?
Reply #2 by Joo Posted: January 13, 2007 at 17:37

Hello there,

I recently went to Florida, I came back to England on the 28th Dec 06. Whilst i was on holiday i noticed a very slight hot sensation at the top of my right thigh. As i'm several stones overweight i cant really tell if there is any swelling as such. When i got off the plane (the flight was aprox 9 hrs) i noticed my arms were slightly blotchy - this has since cleared up. I still get the 'hot' sensation most days, it's not there all the time, and it's not that uncomfortable, but i just wonder if anyone can give me any advice as to whether they think it could be DVT or not. Many thanks for your time

Ovarian Vein or Pelvic DVT Symptoms?

Has anyone on this board ever had the above? I ask cause I've been experiencing a burning knot sensation in my "ovary" area for a few weeks but it seems to be getting worse and starting to aggravate my sciatica on the Right and a slight numbness in my leg (usually at the end of my day or at night when I finally get a chance to put my legs up!). Since I already had a DVT in that lower limb (almost 6yrs ago), I'm concerned that it's happening again...... (p.s. I'm 9 months post-part) even though the symptoms are slightly different. Anyone got a clue what I'm talking about? TIA

Eastern Medicine for DVT?

Has anyone heard of Eastern / alternative medicine treatments for DVT recovery? (Herbs, accupuncture, etc.)

I'm a 46 y.o. male on warfarin for a severe DVT in my left leg (post-surgery). I've had a filter installed. No history of blood clots in my family. My doc says for recovery, all I can do is take warfarin for the next year, wear a compression stocking, and try and exercise as my body will allow...

Has anyone experienced side effects of diarrhoea whilst taking warfarin please? If so I would dearly like to know how you are coping with it. I have been on warfarin for around 3 weeks and need to stay on it for approx a year as I have blood clots on my lungs. Doc has given me something to settle my stomach but with little success.

INR Testing

I went to see my oncologist today and received some news about the PT/INR testing. He said that it is best to take blood from the finger instead of the arm. This makes the tests more acurate because testing from the arm can be 3 days off.

I recommend ANYONE with a bloodclot see an Oncologist / Hematologist. They have knowledge and expertise your G.P. will not. This is not to slight our G.P.'s but the specialists are just that: specialists!

INR at 2.6

Hope all is well,

Has anyone heard / done research on foods / nutrition that help in the dissolving of blood clots?

I am willing to try anything! I have been on blood thinners for 5 months now, supposed to be off next month but it turns out that I may be on them longer if no improvement happens.

I'm interested in learning about alternative methods, please help! Thanks!

Does anyone know if applying a heat pad or warm cloth to the clot location is a bad idea? It seems to help relieve some of my discomfort but I am afraid it might promote movement of the clot.

Hello, I too have DVT

Hello, my name is Danielle and I live in the Las Vegas area. Just over a week ago (Christmas weekend) I went to a local hospital as I was a Migrane sufferer. The Migranes were being caused by my birth control Yaz, but that is not my point.

After entering the ER I was given an IV and the IV administered by the nurse caused both an infection and created a clot nearing the size of a nickel in my right arm behind my tricep. I have since been on the injections (I see you guys are aware of these) and on Coumatin. My clot was detected by an Ultrasound at a different hospital 48 hours later. I unfortunately spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in St. Rose Hospital. I was totally blind-sided. I am, or was a healthy 30 year old woman who has never been admitted to a hospital for anything other than childbirth.

I would like to say hello and I'm sorry to everyone going through this with me and share my informaion and personal stories.

Hi Everyone.

DVT - Success with Invasive Procedures?

Has anyone had any success with dissolving blood clots through:
-- Open surgery
-- Pharmacological Thrombolysis (I think this only works right away, when the clot is fresh)
-- Mechanical Thrombectomy
-- Anything else, other than taking warfarin / coumadin?

I'm 46, had an acute DVT in my left leg after a back surgery in Sept. '06...warfarin and exercise are helping but still have some clot remaining...

Leg Ulcers

I had an appt. with a vascular surgeon the other day as a follow-up to DVT/Phlegmasia Cerula Dolens. He said that within two years of having a blood clot, 2/3 of all people develop leg ulcers. He also mentioned something else but I was so caught up on the leg ulcer that I can't remember what the other thing was--it is all so new to me. Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone know what you can do to prevent this? Thank you.

"theraputic zone" waiting

Anyone else waiting for INR levels to be "theraputic"?

I was diagnosed with a dvt in my (r) calf on july 7th, and been taking warfarin for four weeks this friday. Is that a long time? they tell me everyone is different and younger people (I am 36) have a higher metabolism to the drug.

Has anyone not responded to the generic and changed their prescription to actual coumadin???????????? I need to be 2.0-3.0 and my reading has gone from 1.2 to 1.5, then 1.4.
