One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

i am still unsure about dvt. does it only involve deep veins? i seem to have all the symptoms (swelling, pain, discolouration) but it is the veins of my inner calf that bothers me the most. I has a doppler done about three months ago and it came back negative, but since then it has just been getting worse. any advice from the vets?

Hello! Glad i found this thread. Was one day from having to get my leg amputated in Bolivia when they figured out I had DVT. It has been six years since it happened and despite the extra 20lbs I am doing really well. I was in the hospital in Bolivia for 2 1/2 weeks because I couldnt fly. The doctors there were amazing. I havent been to a doctor since i stopped taking coumadin. ( In the US I have had a couple doctors who really messed up my INR readings and coumadin doses) I will be going to one shortly as I am going to start trying for a baby. Does anyone know of any doctors in the Southwest. New Mexico/Texas area? I have had several bad ones and am not looking forward to the search. Any information on doctors or getting pregnant after DVT would be really appreciated! Thanks,
Kate

Hello, I hope somebody can help me out or maybe just offer a little advice.

My mum recently felt her knee give way as she was dancing, her leg swelled up and she was in a lot of pain. She has rested and kept her leg elevated this week and the swelling has gone down. She is now left with a little swelling around the knee and bruises on her calf. She is frightened to put too much presure on the leg but she is not in pain. She is very frightened of the doctor and doesn't enjoy going. However today she went to be on the safe side. The dr said that looking at her medical history etc she is not a high risk, she looked at the leg and said she was pretty sure it was a torn tendon but did say you can never quite rule out dv and mentioned that if she did feel any shortness of breath or chest pain to go to casualty. She wasn't referred to a hospital or anything though. I am a very anxious person so am trying to tell myself that if the dr thought she was at risk she would have been sent ... read more

my comment is that in sept 2005 had my first DVT in my left leg and was in the hospital for 3 days then placed on warfin until feb 1 2006 i had pain in my right leg and had the leg check and found to have DVT in that leg also. my left got better but the doctors decided that something was wrong to get a clot again while still on blood thinners and decided to put a filter in my chest to prevent clot from traveling to my vital organs. before leaving the hospital i had blood drawn by a hematolgist and was then put on lovenox now giving myself shots daily. i recently got my results back from the doctor who stated he think i have low protein c in my blood which can be hereditary. im 34 in excellent phyiscal condition and very active in extreme activities that i could get hurt in and now im told i will probably be stuck with medication for the rest of my life. now i have to know if i can have children also with this problem. the hematolgist decided he would do my blood work again to double... read more

I travel around the world extensively and have never suffered from any problems because I use a little device called a Stepeasy. They used to only be available in the States but I bought a replacement in the UK at www.kurties.co.uk - I know this site isn't meant for advertising but if it's helped me, it can do the same for anyone !
