One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Can wearing compression stockings help to increase blood pressure? If so, what
should compression of stockings be?

DVT and PE? Self-diagnosis...

I'm scared. Im only 38 but I work
from home and am very physically
inactive. I smoke. I don't drink, but
I'm otherwise normal. I'm 6'0" and
about 165lbs. I first noticed a mild
sensation-very mild-pain in my left
lung. I think. Otherwise my breathing
is fine. Oxygen fine. Etc. But last
week I noticed both legs from below
the knee are swollen. And they feel
weird, and go numb if sitting or
sleeping or still for too long. You
know, that pins and needles
sensation. Anyway I'm sure at the
least I have PE and dvt. I'm going to
see doc asap. Because I can no longer
pretend it's just a mild ulcer. Now I
know its my lung, and this is all
related. Seeing your feet and legs
20% thicket is frightening.

For those of you (or anyone you know)who are suffering from chronic DVT and Post Thrombotic Syndrome, there is hope and a new study that is actively enrolling patients to evaluate a minimally invasive technique to open up the veins and improve the quality of life. Hello everyone: had a very depressing appt. with my Hematologist today - not sure if you all know what PTS is - but that's what I have, as a result of my DVT (knee to groin - lead to many PE's as well). I'm so angry! Ahh!

I am offically finished coumadin therapy (after 8 months). but I always thought that that would mean I am better. Not so! I'm 26, and I will have to wear compression stockings and deal with the pain, swelling, tingling/numbness forever (or so the Specialst says) - part of me still thinks there are more answers out there.

I'm trying to stay positive, but it's hard. This is a disability now - can't stand OR walk OR sit with my knees bent longer than 30 minutes without symptoms. She said it's too late to refer to a Vascular specialist - the damage to my veins is done.

Any tips / advice from others with PTS? For those who don't know it's basically complications that may follow deep vein thrombosis (DVT) (includes, persistent swelling, pain, purpura ... read more

I have been on Xarelto for 4 months. I am trying to exercise but still
feel so fatigued. I was very active before my DVT/PE ( 1/2 marathons,
cycling, lifting) and just having a hard time feeling normal when
exercising. Feel very out of breathe when only running 3-5 miles. Can't
seem to run more than 5 miles now! Anyone else experience this? Also I
have gained about 10 lbs and can't seem to lose it! Feeling very
frustrated!

Intentional weight loss on Rivoraxaban

Hello
Has anyone had any issue intentionally trying to lose weight on Rivorazaban?

I just became a lifer to blood thinners due to a dvt 20 years ago from birth control and a unprovoked pe last Oct.
I was in the process of losing weight when I got the pe, since recovery I have not been able to shift any more weight. I exercise 3-4 times a week high intensity and am watching what I eat.

I have also noticed water retention in my legs, but not really around my abdomen like a lot of people mention.
Thank you

DVT Experience and Looking for Advice

Diagnosed with a DVT Feb 10th. Have arthritis so thought the pain I was experiencing was simply my sciatica. By day two I felt a tightening in my thigh. On Feb 10th my leg appeared normal. After doing some light work, I realized it felt swollen. It was twice the size of my other leg and purple. Rushed to ER. Series of tests determined I had a large clot from my pelvis to knee. Prescribed Xarelto after a lengthy discussion with the MD on duty. I was released and told I would receive a call from a heart doctor for an appointment in 4 months. They simply said keep the leg elevated and if shortness of breath or chest pains occur, to get my self back to the hospital. After day 3 of taking the blood thinner, the swelling in the ankle and foot has decreased substantially. The knee is at about 50% but the upper thigh remains tight and sore. Cannot walk or stand for more than a few minutes. Have determined there is a family history of a blood clotting disorder prothrombin gene m... read more

Alternative Med post DVT?

Is there any one out there who like me would rather not take so much med? I am an athlete and try very hard to take care of my body. The massive DVT I got durning my pregnancy sent me for a loop. It has changed the way I do everything (I would do it a hundred times over for my little angel). However I still suffer from residual clot and some PDVT syndrom (swelling...) I am thinking of going to an alternative Dr. for accupuncture or even some type of herbal meds to reduse the effects of my DVT. I am a 1.4 yrs from my first symptom. I am in great shape, but would like to be whole again, any suggestions?

Are varicose vein a risk factor for DVT?

Hi all,
I'm starting this thread in order to clear my concerns about DVT.
Recently I had read an article which says that varicose vein is a
risk factor for DVT. Does anyone here experience this? Currently,
I'm under the treatment of an expert in Vaughan vein clinic (
http://www.vaughanveinclinic.com/ ) for varicose vein. My doctor
ensured me that this disease is curable, but I wonder whether this
will lead to another health issue. I know how difficult to handle
DVT. My father had the same and he had suffered a lot because of
it. Please share your thoughts and experiences.

Bleeding Gums

Does anyone else find that their gums sometimes start bleeding for no reason while on warfarin?

I've been on it for nearly 4 weeks now and find that every so often my gums set off bleeding on their own (only for a few minutes and not excessively!) Often when I wake up in the morning I can see that they must have bled a little in the night!

My INR is always stable so it's not that - sometimes even eating a sandwich will set them off!!

Just wondered whether it happens to anyone else?!

Where is DVT and how large?

Based on the report below can anyone tell me where my DVT is located and how large?

"There is an occlusive deep venous thrombus in the left common femoral vein, superficial femoral vein, and posterior tibial vein. Prominent overlying soft tissue swelling."

I "think" it starts in the groin. I guess what I'm asking is how far down the leg it goes? Any other information?

Thanks

I have been following this board for a while and have decided to look into the
EKOS procedure. Dr Garcia has been mentioned quite a bit. When I contacted
Christiana Hospital, I was told that he was no longer there and was given no
further info. It sounds like there are a few of his patients on this forum. Does
anyone have contact info for him?

Thanks.

Hello,
Well about two to three weeks ago I started to have calf pain on my right side. It
went away and came back after two days. Then it's been constant. It feels like it's
heavy and numb but not swelled or any rashes or nothing. It only happens when
I'm resting otherwise it goes away at night time it doesn't hurt me when I'm going
sleep its just when I wake up and it fades but also hurts after when I'm sat down. I
do have back pain and a very bad cold , I went to the doctors and they said chest
infection and that I wasn't at risk of blood clots. I did have a d dimer few months
back which was all clear. Any advice I'm scared. The pain feels like throbbing pain
it doesn't hurt when I'm walking or anything it just feels like a burning sensation

Negative D Dimer and Normal Ultrasound pain

I wear compression thigh sleeves because I get low Blood Pressure standing. I
am supposed to wear the socks but they look like a grandma. I have worn the
thigh sleeves for 2 years but sometimes when I wear them they completely cut off
circulation to below my knee and my high ankle/calf hurts. I usually stop wearing
them 1-2 days and the cramping tightness goes away. Well the last 2.5 weeks it
hasnt went away and has gotten worse especially when laying down. I went to a
cardiologist a few days ago and requested an ultrasound. I got it the next day. It
came back normal except at the time the pain had moved to my ankle and they
said they cant ultrsound my ankle, then over the weekend as I would walk in it the
pain moved up to my hamstring and right buttocks area. I was getting nervous a
clot was traveling so I went to the ER. I asked for a D-Dimer. The D-Dimer came
back normal. I read there was only a 1% chance I had a clot after those results.
But a) the ultras... read more

My MD informed me that the filter was only good for about a year. I have
had mine for 14 years. No adverse reactions. I may have to have a heart
procedure soon. I have already had PE twice and nearly died both times,
hence the decision to have the filter put in. It is a Greenfield
stainless steel one. Will it still protect me?

Do I have DVT?

Two days ago I sat on my legs in a slanted way. My heart beated faster but it did not hurt. I took my legs out of that position after that. They were only in that position for about 5 seconds. I believe I had an adrenaline rush for an hour later because I was shaking. I could have been cold though.
I've been having a feeling in my legs, feet, and around my knees.
It's not painful. My right foot has a full feeling. Sometimes it feels weird walking on my right foot. I just have feelings that come and go around my legs, feet and around my knees.
I've taken 325mg aspirin, 100mg niacin, 1g vit C, and a bit of turmeric today and yesterday.
I'm 17.
