One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Hi!
I was recently (1,5 months ago) diagnosed
with non occlusive dvt in the calf. I had
ultrasound 15 days ago and my doctor told
me that he clot had dissolved. The problem
is that I still feel some pain in the calf
especially when i try to put some more
pressure on me feet like walking really
fast or go down a hill.

Since my clot had dissolved Should I
expect any improvement? Or is this the
maximum improvement I should expect?
What's your experience with recovery? And
exercise?
Should I continue besides the mild pain?

valve incompetence, CVI

5 years ago I suffered a DVT in my left lower leg, with the clot at
back of the knee. Had all the usual symptoms, was treated with LMW
Heparin and then Warfarin, and compression hose. Pain and swelling
both resolved within a month, I started walking again and went back
to work offshore a month later. Counted myself lucky and got on with
my life.
3 years ago started to experience edema, and some skin discoloration.
Edema became severe when moved to live in a tropical climate. I came
to live in Bangkok, Thailand more than a year ago, a place with good
hospitals, so I started looking for help. Finally diagnosed as
chronic venous insufficiency due to incompetent valve(s). Ultrasound
showed reflux and CT scan revealed destructive damage to valve in
deep vein behind the knee. There is also reflux in at least one
perforator vein. Final verdict; inoperable. Treatment limited to
compression hose (unbearable in the tropics, and doesn't help much).
Now I am... read more

Does this sound like a clot?

Ok first: please do not answer if you have
to Google your whole answer. I've read the
links, I'm looking for one more specific
to my situation

Length of time of calf pain: it's been
ongoing for a few weeks to a month but
only hurts once a week if at all, always
in the same place

Location: left leg, calf, on the left side
not too far from the back bend of the
knee. It's called the lateral gas-
something-or-other. Please note though, on
occasion the pain moves down the center of
my calf nearly to my ankle, or hurts on
the left side of the back of the bend of
the knee. It always starts in the same
place though. About as often I get a cold
tingly electric pain through my shin bone.
Never at the same time though. Usually
both comes on at night and goes away when
I wake up the next morning

Kind of pain: it's like a piercing throb
kind of pain, feels a little bit cold
sometimes. On a scale of 1-10 it's
probably a 3 or 4 though.

Usual... read more

Burning feeling??

I had my clots & PE's about 6mo ago in my leg and I haven't had a doppler since. The docs had asked me before if I had burning. Well yesterday I started having a burning sensation. Does anyone know what this could be caused from? I have tried searching online and the only thing I can find is that it is a symptom of a clot. Could this be post thrombotic syndrome? I do have the start of it but the docs were hoping they could correct it before it got out of hand.. I don't see my doc until Tues and was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this before?

I saw my hema Dr today for a follow up and was told I tested borderline for the Lupus anticoagulant,he wants to test it again in August and do another ultrasound as my one done last week showed the clots still there, but with good blood flow ,there is a possibility I may have to stay on Coumadin for life, which is ok,I have come to terms with this,in my opinion its no different to a diabetic taking insulin every day, the alternative doesn't appeal to me.

Does anyone else have this Lupus anticoagulant thingy ??

being proactive about your warfarin dosage

My dosage just as soon as it got regulated was 3.75 6x 2.5 1x week. And it was good
and stable through Oct, Nov, Dec, early part of Jan. But then in Jan I finally got control
of the swelling. In Jan I started working out regularly- I realized I could not tolerate
high-intensity cardio day after day, but I could alternate it with strength training,
yoga, etc. and do 6 days a week reliably.

No INR test has given me any confidence since Jan. I test, it's low, they say, take 5
instead of 3.75 the night they call and then go back to the regular schedule, take a
test 3 weeks later. I do, and what do you know, it's low again (and I suspect I've been
low and therefore not theraputic all that time) so they say do the 5 again, come back
in a week (2.2) and they say, ok, come back in 3 weeks. I do, and it's even lower than
the last one. And I'm going to Las Vegas, so I call and ask to talk to the doc, because I
want to know if I have more than one drink a week- ... read more

Long haul flight and heparin

Hi, two years ago I got a dvt from just below my knee almost to my groin. After
initial treatment with heparin injections followed by 6 months on warfarin I was
given the all clear. I have had no real symptoms since, just some residual
discolouration at my ankle. The cause was never identified although it did occur
immediately after a 4 hour drive while probably somewhat dehydrated. My dr said
this "may have contributed". Anyway I am flying from Perth to Singapore
economy (6 hours) immediately followed by a 14 hour flight business class to
London. I am trying to weigh up the risk v benefit of injecting heparin prior to my
flight. Can heparin cause unprovoked internal bleeding or would I need an
incident to cause bleeding. Any advice around this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm on aspirin, Plavix and Warfarin because of vascular problems with my leg and have had two bypasses. This past Friday I had to have two lower front teeth removed (#23 and 24) and the oral surgeon put a couple stitches in the gums knowing I had been on the blood thinners.

My INR the day of surgery was 1.1. I had stopped Warfarin for four days and in lieu of that was giving myself Lovenox shots twice a day. There should have been no problems but I was wrong.

Things started getting worse by Saturday night and I woke up with blood on the sleeve of my T-Shirt, pillow and sheets. Rinsed my mouth out with salt water went back to bed. Woke up a few hours later with the same problem. The gauze and tea bags helped little, only for a while.

It's been like this ever since so I went to the oral surgeons office and he looked at the site and told me the biggest problem was the Lovenox and aspirin but mostly the Lovenox. I've restarted Warfarin and my INR yesterday was 1.3 and 1.6 this ... read more

Swelling years after DVT

17 years ago I was in a wreck and broke my leg and developed a DVT in ny calf. I had major problems with this leg swelling for months.I was put on Cumadin( for approx 6 mon.) after a week's stay in the hospital.
The leg continues to swell not nearly as bad and has some numbness.
Is this swelling normal ?I have to be very careful about some activities, socks/shoes I wear, standing. I have lived with the pain from this for years. I'm not very trusting of vascular surgeons.
Recently I had to have hip replacment,(due to a old injury) on the opposite leg and developed a small DVT in that leg. I am back on Cumadin, but there are no ongoing swelling issues in that leg.

Has anyone else had these issues YEARS after a DVT ?

I developed DVT on June 12, 2009 and was diagnosed and admitted to hospital on July 29, 2009 with blood clots throughout my entire left calf and one clot above the knee.

I was a very active person (mainly cycling), but it's been months now and I seem to be having a lot of trouble returning to my pre-DVT activity level.

How many months did it take you to return to your pre-DVT fitness and activity level?

I'm 21 years old, have two kids and never had any sort of blood clot problems in
my life and my family doesn't have history of them. I've been resting quite a bit
meaning being a couch potatoe for awhile but getting up for my kids and eating
and bathroom. Anyways I noticed my right leg was swollen, had no pain at all or
redness. I went to er to get it checked out, they did a ultrasound on my leg and
dime blood test and other blood tests, anyways they said my d dime test was just
a tiny bit over normal and they said there might be a possible small blood clot by
my groin pelvic area but the vascular surgeon specialist said he's not concerned
about that at all since there's not a big or clear sign I have one. He wants to see
me for himself so I am seeing him in a day & a half to examine me and etc for
himself. Anyways, they also don't wanna give me anything for no reason since
they're not really sure and that was the specialists recommendations. I really

Hi, I'm a 41 yr. old male, on Xarelto for 8 months. before I was on coumedin for 4 yrs.
Am wondering if I should be getting up to stretch my legs every two hours while on
Xarelto. Every two hours I walk continuously for three minutes. Is this excessive? It
gets in the way of my life. Do people on Xarelto not get up to stretch legs and walk on
ordinary non travelling days?

To ER, or not to ER? Calf pain weirdness

So, Tuesday morning I woke up to a muscle
spasm in my left calf, which I massaged
until the pain was mostly gone and went
back to sleep. It was a little sore during
the day, but in the evening the pain
returned and this time massage was no
help. I tried stretching, heat, ice,
massage, muscle relaxers, and exercise,
but the pain has not gone away yet. I am
on a new birth control pill as of 3.5
weeks ago, and I should also mention that
due to other medical conditions I take
strong narcotic pain meds daily. This pain
is strong enough to cut through the
narcotics and make it hard to walkor put
weight on, unless I am at the peak
effective times of my painkillers. As a
chronically ill woman I am generally
treated like a drug seeking, hypochondriac
whiner at emergency rooms. I have an
appointment with a new gyn tomorrow, do
you think they will be able to look for a
dvt or advise me how to deal with this?

I was diagnosed with small blood clot in femoral vein on 10/19 by ultrasound it
was attached to wall age undetermined. D dimer same day was negative. No
swelling or redness just had pain that would come and go not constant. Put on
Eliquis for 4 days than saw my primary dr to follow up. She ordered another
ultrasound because I only had pain and d dimer negative. Even though
ultrasound + and new ultrasound was negative and since than 5 more
ultrasounds negative?????? No clot seen on them. She stopped my Eliquis after
first negative Doppler so 5 days in but ER radiologist and imaging place that
found positive says I need to stay on Eliquis because it was there :( my PCP says
no more I still have leg pain and scared of every pain I get :( This all started leg
pain on 10/13 and ER + 10/19 and started Eliquis 10/19 and stopped 10/24 but still
