DVT deep vein thrombosis forum

One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Vivid dreams with Rivaroxaban/Xarelto

I'm currently taking 20mg. Xarelto daily following DVT's in my left and right legs. I have Factor V Lieden. I originally started anti-coag. treatment with Warfarin, but my Doctor switched me to Xarelto following nightmares. Although better than Warfarin, I still suffer from very vivid dreams and believe that these are a result of the Xarelto - although my Doctor says there is no evidence that Xarelto causes vivid dreams...
If anyone has any similar experience, and/or can suggest a way forward, I would be very grateful.

Last month I had a tummy tuck and a thigh lift, this a "present to myself" for my 40th birthday, seeing how I lost a lot of weight a while ago and had two c-sections, I wanted to get rid of the excess skin.

About 2 weeks after the surgery, my left leg was sooo swollen and I had to walk with an old lady walker. I went to my surgeon's office, who sent me to the ER, and was told I had a clot that extended from my ANKLE TO MY GROIN!!!! From having plastic surgery! I could not believe it! I had no other risk factors, survived a gastric bypass, two c-sections and breast implants/lipo with ZERO complications in the past. I never gave a second thought to the safety of plastic surgery, I think it's something too many of us take too lightly now that it's all over TV with the "real housewives" and such having plastic surgery every other week. Be very careful when considering elective surgery!!!

I have been on Lovenox now for the past 3 weeks, my husband gives me the twice daily inje... read more

Hi all. I had DVT in upper and lower left
leg after Achilles rupture in June. I also
developed PE and have been on rivoxaban
ever since.

Thing is I have returned to exercising
again using spin bike, rower and upper
body weights. But having a lot of pain in
the leg after. Does anyone know if I may
be harming myself please?

I am also using Ted stockings on and off.
The pain is very unpleasant but not
specifically bad. More of a dull ache.

Many thanks all

In 11/14 after a hysterectomy (9 days post op0 I had a Pulmnary embolism.

I didnt go to the Dr until the day after the odd pain started and they sent me for a
CT scan which showed 2 small clots in my left lung. Treated with Lovenox and
bridged onto Warfarin. 2 days stay in the hospital then home. treatment was 6
months, but on one of the refills for the Warfarin there was a mistake and they put
90 pills per refill with 3 refills, so I have been taking that and still going to the
coumadin clinic. But all of the Dr's say i need to come off the comadin. BUt the
FEAR is so overwhelming to me it is making me sick. The though of stoping just
brings tears instantly. How do you all handle that type of anxiety. The fear of not
being protcted. Can i hear some of your stories of coming off the drug. I am on
my last bottle of warfarin, and I have already started with racing heart, insomnia,
worrry and searching the internet to no end to find a way to stay on. ... read more

is this a DVT

Been to the ER 4 times in the last month with 2 overnight stays. All due to chest pain, left arm pain, left leg pain and shortness of breath. I see a cardiologist. All EKG's, chest xrays, blood work normal. I complain of my left leg hurting. It especially hurts at rest or trying to sleep. They say your leg pains and chest pains aren't related. I recently had a heart CT scan waiting on results. I had an ultrasound on my left leg 2 months ago normal and had an ultrasound about 5 months ago on both normal. does a DVT cause so much pain at rest? I am 34, no high choles or blood pressure, 5'4", 110 lbs. Had a csection 2 years ago. Do have a desk job and a long commute to work. No swelling, no redness, just horrible left leg pains. Most of the time it is calf area, sometimes on heel, bottom of foot, sometimes in back of my thigh, sometimes behind knee. Pain is not all the time but seems to be worse when laying down or sitting. I do wear compression hose pretty much all the time, take baby... read more

I am a medical professional and believe if the disease does not kill
you the drug will.I was on Xarelto for DVT of leg and it was contrary
to my conditions, recent hemmorhage, recent epidural, kidney disease,
so I fear it.
I began with a mild headache, a side effect, which worsened around day
12 to a 24 hour a day severe headache left side of head. Had to go to
ER, CT scan negative so the pain was that severe I had to stop it on
my own to see and I was right. After 18 hrs after last dose the
headaches vanished and I am a lucky person who all my life was never
bothered by headaches.
i went back on my daily aspirin Oct 6, all symptoms gone and I feel
good. I researched all anticoagulant and all do the same and have same
side effects.Docs told me "the body must dissolve the clot" the drug
only prevents more clots. I had to take a chance and listen to my

I had dvt one year ago, I was a healthy active 27
year old with no health complaints when I
discovered I had dvt. I have been checked for
blood disorders, cancers, and now I have recently
had my popliteal artery checked. My results
showed that my artery becomes compressed when I
move my legs in certain positions. I understand
this is relatively rare so would be really
grateful if anyone else is in fact in the same
boat as me as I really don't know what this means
or what the future holds.
Thank you in advance

Superficial Thrombophlebitis

Hello All!

A Happy New Year to everyone! I spent New Years Eve in the hospital getting going on anti-coagulants after going in for a doppler exam that revealed a sizable clot in the Greater Saphenous Vein of my left leg from just above the knee extending up 6 or so (my first clot of any kind). I have no risk factors to speak of. I was told from the start that I had DVT. Technically the GSV is not a deep vein, its a superficial vein which carries roughly 18% of the blood back from the leg so Im pretty sure that what I have is technically referred to as Superficial Thrombophlebitis (STP). I was told to go to the emergency room straight away and begin anti-coagulant treatment in my opinion this was the right move because my clot was growing towards the saphenofemoral junction this is where the superficial GSV joins up with the deep femoral vein.

Has anyone in the group experienced this? Id love to chat with you.

2 months after being diagnosed and hospitalized with ulcerative colitis I had a dvt & pe. My skin color - very dark - has changed right about ankle on both legs (left side is worst), has anyone else had this? Will normal color return? Also, when I was discharged from hospital in September I was on 1 mg of coumadin daily. I am currently taking 7 mg daily. My pt/inr readings are always less than 2. Is this increase normal? I had a doppler done last week and asked for results to be sent to me. I received them yesterday in the mail. It stated that the peroneal & posterior tibial veins were poorly visualized due to swelling. I see my doctor tomorrow, if she does not recommend it, should I ask for further test to rule out another dvt

Exercise Bike and DVT

Hi All, I just want some advice please.

Has anyone had an extensive DVT from Groin or higher to Ankle and have tried exercising on a exercise bike? If so, how did your leg stand up to the movement? Is it better than walking - I find my leg starts to swell after about 10 mins of straight walking? I really do need someone with this type of extensive DVT to reply as small clots don't seem to have the same impact on exercise capabilities than large ones from what I have read thus far.

Thanks to anyone that can assist.

Could this possible be DVT?

So, probably 6ish weeks ago I noticed my right right lower leg (knee
to ankle) was 'bigger' than the left. It looks wider/fatter but I
couldn't tell if it was swollen or not. I briefly read about DVT and
thought there had to be pain, so I ignored it and went on with my
life. Recently I started thinking about it again, it's still bigger
and I don't know what to think.

Could it even be possible to have DVT that long with no pain? If the
swelling was from DVT, wouldn't there be pain after 6+ weeks of
blockage? It doesn't seem to be any bigger than it was 6 weeks ago.

I know the obvious answer is to go to my doctor but I don't have any
other classic signs other than 'swelling', I'm 23 and I'm almost
certain I'll be fobbed off.

Thanks for any help.

L Arginine Factor V Leiden

I have Factor V Leiden, was diagnosed a year ago. I had a superficial Cephalic
vein clot in my arm that moved into my Subclavian and became a DVT. After 2
weeks on Coumadin I developed a superficial clot in my leg, I was at therapeutic
levels when it occured. I had to quit Coumadin because I had an allergic reaction
from it and also lost 75% of my hair. I was on Lovenox but my prescription
benefits were exhausted after the 2nd month because it is $6,000 a month. Long
story short I can't take Coumadin and can't afford Lovenox so for the last 2
months I have not been on blood thinners. 4 days ago I woke up with a clot in my
other leg. I have not been to the ER to see if it is a DVT or superficial but the pain
is horrible. Has anyone tried L Arginine to break up clots??? I need some help.

I was diagnosed with a DVT three years ago and also found out at that time that I had
Diabetes. I was put in the hospital for five days and and given Lovenox which I stayed
on for three weeks. Then coumadin for life when they found out that I had no vena
cava. My other veins take up the slack and are larger than normal. I also have a family
history of DVT's. This past summer I took a trip to Japan still taking 7mg of Coumadin
per day. Both of my feet swelled while I was there. I was having my INR checked at the
hospital every week - a big cost of time! The first week I was checked I showed my
swelling right leg to the doctor he was not interested?? I am now grateful because I
did not want my stay in japan ruined by a hospital stay in japan! But my legs would
swell every day. I would sleep with one or both legs elevated most nights. I went to
the doctor when I got back and had a one night stay in the hospital after the ultra
sound found an extensive clot in the ... read more

Is it normal to have deep lines on lower shin ( where shin meets foot) from
compression socks on affected dvt leg. I have been measured for stockings but I
still get deep red marks in areas where I swell and compression becomes more
and more uncomfortable throughout the day until I finally can't stand it and rip
them off. Thoughts?
