One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Compression: Knee vs. Thigh

I am currently wearing knee length compression stockings after a DVT in calf and thigh 3 1/2 weeks ago. My doctor said I could wear knee length stockings becuse the swelling is in my calf. I dont mind the stockings but I am wondering if I should be wearing thigh highs instead. My thigh in the affected leg is 1" bigger than the other one. Will the swelling go down even if I don't wear thigh highs. Has anyone been told specifically to wear thigh highs and if so what was the doctors reason? What compression are most people wearing? Also, anyone know where to find them cheaper, my insurance doesn't cover them at al.

I had my first dvt when I was 23 (now 36)
and fractured my ankle but did not realise
it was a clot until I had a PE which is sn
experience I am desperate not to repeat.
When I was 7 weeks pregnant with my first
child 5 years ago I had the exact same
discomfort and sensation changes as I had
experienced with what I hadn't realised
was a dvt and went to a drop in dr on day
2 a sunday, only to be dismissed as no
swelling, redness etc, my leg looked
normal but I knew it wasn't. Went back thr
next day and referred for Doppler and
started on clexane, 2 days later I had the
doppler and was cleared of DVT and clexane
stopped. I knew this wasn't right but
spent the next 2 weeks battling GP's who
were adamant I had everything from muscle
strain to sciatica! Eventually day 20
since I knew they redid a Doppler and
there it was from groin to calf! So to
today, I am as certain as I can be that I
have a DVT and have been for 10 days. I
had a low d dime... read more

Factor V111 deficiency

My genetic testing came back showing I have this blood disorder. I've been on Warfarin since the end of December due to DVT/PE. My hemotologist has given me the okay to stop the dreaded drug at the end of June.
He told me they usually don't do long-term/lifer treatment with warfarin on those testing positive with Factor V111 deficiency and suggested baby aspirin. I know this could change if I have another DVT.
Has anyone out there been diagnosed with Factor V111? I had heard of Factor V, but when Doc told me Factor V111 all I could think of was "It goes up to eight!".

I was diagnosed 5 weeks ago with a DVT from hip to toe in my left leg the day after a c section to deliver my daughter. Im on Clexane injections once daily. My condition is complicated because i had a brain bleed at 36 weeks hence the c section so need to be on low dose blood thinners. I will be having a biopsy done on my brain once my leg is resolved. I had a valve inserted on the day of diagnoses and have had every scan and blood test available to try and work out why i have a clot and a bleed. I am keen to have more children and start to exercise again soon. I wear compression stockings hip to toe 24/7. Im 28 and fit. I hope to start swimming agin soon and have an appointment with my vascular surgeon next week.

Anyone got positive recovery stories. I want my old life back......

swelling of thighs after aqua therapy

Hi, all. I am new to this forum and very appreciative to have it
available. I have a chronic dvt in my right calf. The most
bothersome aspect to this condition is an inability to walk more than
a block or to stand without movement for more than a few minutes.
This is compounded by the fact that I have a very bad back, the worst
part of it being severe stenosis in the lumbar area. I have been
using compression stocking, 20-30 mrg, for about 4 years, putting them
on usually before I get out of bed each morning. It seems that the
best way to keep my swelling is through alternating sitting and
walking short distances in the house.

I have noticed for some time that every time I take aqua therapy for
my back (have done so for many years now off and on)my thighs, which
do not normally swell often, are seriously swollen which appears to be
from edema. I don't know whether to continue the aqua or not. Is it
possible that standing, even in a pool, for an ... read more

Axillary DVT age 25

2 months ago was hospitalized with axillary DVT, with the clot
fragmenting into my lung.

Am on warfarin 7 mg and still have an INR of 1 and PT of 12.
Struggling with getting a doctor to treat me due to insurance
issues. Every day is phone calls to doctors. I'm lucky I even have
my warfarin right now

Still have pain in my arm. Have started getting pain in my ankle
and tingling in the bottom of my foot, and bleeding under the
skin. Have coughed up blood 3 times in the past 2 months.

I'm only 25. I have never smoked, done drugs, don't drink. I eat
very well and exercise. I'm the poster child of health. I don't
know why this is happening. The ER doctor thinks it's genetic, but
my mother was tested in the past for genetic factors for blood
clotting, and she has nothing. My father is also exceptionally
healthy.

My body is barely responding to warfarin, and seems to just be
spontaneously creating clots. First the axillary vein, now my
ankle. Wish I kne... read more

Confused and still no answer

Long but want to explain it all. On Oct 25th I noticed swelling and an irritated
feeling in my leg. I had an ultrasound done at the ER on the 27th I think. Went
back to the ER on the 29th and they just said it was muscle and skeletal pain.
Problems and swelling persisted so I went to a different ER Friday the 31st and
they did an ultrasound and didn't find anything. Wednesday the 5th I went back to
that same ER and they did another ultrasound and a ddimer. Doctor said Ddimer
was normal <150 I think and the ultrasound said phlebitis. Yesterday had trouble
breathing and went to another ER as I was traveling for work and they monitored
my heart for awhile and did blood tests which everything was normal including
ddimer which again was <150. Said the swelling was probably phlebitis as the
other hospital stated and that an injury I had month ago combined with this
recent job that is sitting and driving lots has made things more prevalent. I just
don't know where ... read more

I am 30 years old male suffering from
dvt since 2003. I have been to alot of
physicians and vascular surgeons but
they all made it clear to me that I
have to live with this disease with the
rest of my life except the fact that
the intake of warfarin will reduce the
chances of any fatal implications.

I am at peace with my medical condition
and have accepted the consequences. The
only issue I am seriously concerned
about is the cellulite which developed
around 4 years ago on my lower right
limb due to that dvt. It is causing
serious pain and burn since then. I
have taken many antibiotics to catter
this cellulite. I even quit my job for
this. I am applying "clobederm cream
(clobetasol propionate cream USP) 10
gm". It is effective but in a passive
way I.e only if I stay in bed and dont
walk unnecessarily. I dont know what
should I do regarding this. I am
seriously worried as I am the head of
the household and have to make earning
