One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

I developed a DVT whilst at work, 3 months ago
when I was advised by my gynaecologist to take a
family planning pill in order to correct my
menstrual irregularities. I was first placed in im
clexane, then later on tab warfarin. I got better
when the dosage was increased from 5mg to
7.5mg. I was also advised not to eat greeny
vegetables.

I am now a warfarin "lifer"!

Been on warfarin since Sept 1st 2010. Took it for 6 months and recently was taken off of it March 1st. Been riding my mountain bike too. On the 17th my calf started to swell again. Went into ER and had them do an ultrasound. They didn't think I had a clot and said there was nothing new, but they gave me Lovenox. Called my IRadiologist on the 21st and told him my calf was hurting and I thought I had a clot. He said I didn't. Went to my Hemotologist yesterday and he rushed me in to get another ultrasound. They told me I have another clot from my calf to halfway up my thigh. My Hemotologist informed me that I am now a "lifer" with Warfarin! I am so excited, I want to throw a party! He told me in 2 to 3 years they might have a product out of Europe that is safer. Until then, Champagne wishes and Caviar Dreams and bloody cerebral hemorrhages..... ultimately we are all dead losers. It's just the "quality" of life while we are alive we try to improve. But in the end we all lose..... read more

Waiting for ultrasound

I've been having this horrible pain in my legs, so bad it hurts to walk. No
painkiller, no heating, nothing helps. Doctor almost got mad at me when I asked if
I could have an ultrasound, as "nothing will show up. It's pointless". I was
insistent though, and I'll be getting my ultrasound in two days. It's probably
because I'm only 21. Anyway, I want to know, if they find clots in the ultrasound,
will they immediately send me to ER that day? I've already been having this pain
for weeks, I'm afraid of waiting too long.

Had a dvt in my leg 1 month after an
ankle fracture. I am on Coumadin and
have been about 3 weeks. I stay
nauseated and tired. I have lower
back pain, chest pain at times, and
I have been vomiting on and off. I
also had pacemaker surgery last
week. Worried about p.e. Just very
anxious, I guess. Wanted to stay on
a medicine in which I knew how thin
my blood was and not never know with
the new drugs. I called my doc about
the vomiting and she said the nausea
and vomiting had nothing to do with
coumadin. Just wanted
feedback,please.

Hi - the venowave has been helping with my pts symptoms more than anything
else so I need to wear it all day long ( for the past 2 months) the last week my
knee is starting to feel weak and is bothering me. I think it is the weight of the
venowave. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

2 DVTs within 1 week...

I was diagnosed with my 1st DVT in my right calf
13 days ago. On Day 8, I suspected another DVT in
my left calf. My Dr. Said that since we are
already treating the 1st DVT, an ultrasound isn't
necessary and my INR is 3.8...so my blood is too
thin anyway.Dr. is adjusting my meds, but my
question is...Is the 2nd DVT ultrasound necessary
since the treatment is the same, and my blood is
thin? He said we'd ultrasound both calves again
in 3 months. Thoughts?

Hi, I am currently on Warfarin 10mg a day my INR is 3.2 today my ratio
is 2-3. Anyway I smoke...but I want to try and give up...will electronic
vapourisers help (vape)only I know that apparently giving up smoking
affects the Warfarin. Has anyone else given up whilst on Warfarin and if
so what effects did they have on their results.Did docs advise not to
give up yet?? I dont know what to do?? It seems daft that smoking is bad
but not supposed to give up on Warfarin. I want to improve my health and
get better from 2 superficial thrombophlebitis but treated as DVT's. Any
advice out there. (no one answered my last 2 posts yesterday :( )

DVT and PE history with no diagnosis ...

Hello - I am 38 years old. I had my first DVT (calf to belly button) when I was only 16. I took 2 shots per day through all 3 pregnancies and have had several 'clot scares' over the years.

In 2010 I had double PE w/o incident that did not begin as a DVT and told I would be a lifer. I was horrible with meds and went on and off for years. At the end of 2014 I decided to try to be diligent again and spoke with my pulmonologist who put me on Xarelto. I took it for a couple months and then fell off again when I lost my father. In April I developed another DVT (one in calf and one in thigh - same leg)and was hospitalized and put back on Xarelto. My Dr wanted a follow up ultrasound and after 1.5 months of taking my thinners w/o fail they told me I still had an active clot in my leg and it had not been reabsorbed. He sent me to a hematologist that had managed my care through my pregnancies for further blood screening and all them have come back negative. I'm scared and very fru... read more

Hello, I am new to this. I was told I have below knee DVT just over a week ago, after having ankle surgery. I was diagnosed after having severe pains in my calf for over a week, but i now have pains in the back of my knee going up my thigh and not much pain in my calf. Can anyone help. Im worried if the clot has moved at all even though my INR is 2.7 and they want it at 2.5.
Any advise please? x

Second dvt

The first happened a couple of years ago while my leg was in plaster from a crack
in the ankle. Did the warfarin, was signed off and thought that was the end of it.
Have just been on holiday doing lots of walking and feeling five, then yesterday
had pain starting in the calf then spreading up the thigh until it was very painful
to put weight on it. Urgent care gave me a warfarin injection and a prescription for
two more days, and now I'm waiting till Monday for a scan etc. Very disappointed
to be back here, and would like to know when the pain might ease - it's hard to
stand at all at the moment.
