One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

How long before clot is considered chronic?

I had a dvt/pe 16 months age. I am on warfarin and been wearing compression
stockings for about a year. My dvt was in my mid thigh. For the first year I had
little to no improvement as far as the clot getting any smaller it remained fully
occluded. It did improve in that I had less pain and swelling. I had 4 scans in first
12 months all showed the clot was unchanged. Three months ago I had a scan
that showed partial occlusion. I am due for another coming up. So I guess my
question is at this point is there a chance I can still have a full recovery? The
doctors don't see to be able to give me a straight answer. Has anyone had a full
recovery over the course of 1-2 maybe even 3+ years.
Thanks,

Hi all. I'm a little confused
and I think you can help me!
I ended up in the ER to be
tested for dvt yesterday and
found positive for that. So I
spent the night in the
hospital and was put on
Xarelto and actually showed
improvement enough today to
come home. My question is am
I supposed to be mostly
relaxing with my leg up like
in a recliner, or mostly
moving around like
walking/light exercise? My
swelling has already come
down by about a third and the
calf is actually soft again
lol.Thanks so much.

I am a plus size women in need of compression socks. I've tried the Jobst XL, and while they fit, I'm pushing the limits. I would like to find some alternatives. Any sources I should look at?

Clot?

I had a TIA about 12 years ago. They found I had Factor V Leiden
with Protein S deficiency.

To my knowledge I have had no other clots, I am not taking any
medication.

The past few months I have had very bad muscle spasms in my right
calf when I am sleeping. I chalked it up to bad diet/dehydration.
Yesterday I woke up with pain, numbness and tingling in my right
thigh. If the pain was still as bad today as it was yesterday I
would be in with my doctor, but the pain has significantly
subsided (still there but going away), so I am questioning if it
is a clot or I am just being paranoid?

If it was a clot would the pain subside?

Thanks so much!

Just read an article in the news (
http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/06/10/gastric-reflux-drugs-linked-to-
heart-attacks/?ref=health&_r=0 ) that mentions that use the Omeprazole
can facilitate the clot generation process (at least the ones that
trigger hear attacks). Curious to estimate how many people in this forum
was on Omeprazole in days, weeks or months prior to having the DVT
episode. I was taking it by the way, but not sure there is a connection.

Worried I might have DVT. For the past few days my left leg has felt stiff, tight,
tingly (like going numb) and slightly painful (like someone squeezing too hard).
However, I don't see any swelling or discolouration. Today, I could noticed the
sensation spreading to my thigh. Worried, because I have been sitting around and
been in the bed a lot. It feels heavy when I walk on it, but oddly it feels a little bit
better when I do. *shrug* I also took painkiller and it was useless. Had no effect.
I'm 21, I am overweight. I was thinking if it keeps up, I'm going to the ER. Anyone
have no swelling or discolouration, but still had DVT?

Pain after DVT

Hi everyone,
I had the sleeve surgery on 6/27/13 and afterwards developed a large blood clot
from my groin down to my calf in my left leg. I was diagnosed on 8/28/13. My
doctor put me on Xarelto and I was hospitalized for about 5 days and given
lovenox shots during that time. I was in excruciating pain at the time, it definitely
got better after hospitalization but the pain didn't completely go away until about
mid October. Ever since then I've been feeling great. I've been exercising and
losing more weight. I get the occasional uncomfortable pain mostly when I don't
exercise, but as long as I am staying active I have had no pain. That is until last
week when I tried spinning for the 1st time. It was definitely a lot more
challenging than anything else I've been doing. About 2 hours later my leg started
to swell again and I started having mild pain. It got better in the morning but then
after standing up for a long time it swelled again and the pain started ag... read more

Come off or stay on?

Hi everyone, I have been given the choice by my consultant whether I want to
carry on taking Wafarin or come off taking it. I had an unprovoked DVT in my leg
from thigh to knee July 2014. I have had lots of blood tests the last couple of
weeks which have all come back ok. Could anyone give me any advice? I am so
scared that if I come off I will get another clot but at the same time scared I might
have a bleed if I stay on! Anyone who has come off Wafarin, have you re clotted?
Such a dilemma !

improved at all. Is this normal? Shouldn't the swelling be decreasing?

Xarelto + Alcohol

Hi,

I an 32 and was in hospital last week with my first DVT which
resulted in a PE in both sides of my lungs. I had blood tests
returned today which said I had lupus anticoagulant deformity in
my blood. This means I may be on thinners permanently. I am
currently on Xarelto.
I know this sounds bad but my main concern is the medication says
to only drink 2 std drinks a day. I love beer and going out with
friends and having a few too many drinks.
Is this all over for me now? Are there any thinners that I can
happily have a night of drinking on?
