One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Hi all three weeks ago I was very sick with
upper respiratory infection and couldn't get
out of bed for about two weeks after that I
developed a DVT in my calf the first
hospital ER did not find it two days later
the next ER hospital I went to found it in
my thigh my er doctor gave me zarelto to
take 15 mg twice a day for 3 weeks and then
drop down to one tablet a day. I have been
seeing so many advertisements about this
drug being so dangerous on TV I am a 58 year
old female with no serious health problems,
but this drug has me really concerned I am
on about nine other medications for
fibromyalgia and was wondering if I should
switch to warfarin but I don't know how it
would do with all my other medications.
Which is better Xarelto or warfarin? This is
got me pretty freaked out any advice is
appreciated. Ty.

warfarin and alcohol

Hi there,

I am new to warfarin and will be on it for life. I used to enjoy a couple of glasses of wine , and when I socialised with friends maybe a few more! I was told by doctor that I should only have 1 drink anymore as it reacts with warfrin and thins the blood too much. Needless to say I am finding it difficult to come to terms with fact that for rest of my life I will only be able to have 1 drink together. Dont get me wrong, I dont have drink proble, but at times eg parties, weddings, bbqs etc I would have more, and Im wondering what has your experience been with alcohol? How long did it take to get used to non drinking? As I said, I was never a heavy drinker, (except maybe a university!) but I do like to have glasss of wine with meal or sitting out in garden. Do I have to face drink free life??

Hi everyone, I work in the freight business … in the month of august I ve had an accident that occurred while I was unloading trailer’s , something came down on the back of my left knee and , in the meantime I was not doing bad , kept working I just had a few scratches nothing to be alarmed at, but after about a couple of weeks all of a sudden I ran out of breath… in the first place I thought it was a panick attack or something else like high cholesterol so I decided to check with my family doctor , I was told to go at the hospital immediately , get some blood tests, they made me do a Doppler for my leg and found out that I had a blood clot in the back of my knee and sinceI was having shortness of breath a ct scan was done to see if it had moved to the lungs.. the ct scan did reveal that I have several clots in my lungs…I got treated with 2 shots a day and 1 5mg coumadin pill …for a few days then after 6 days they stopped the shots and I resumed with 8mg for 2 days (inr 1,5) , n... read more

Does the clot return after treatment?

I had a dvt extensive to mid thigh and had 6 months on Warfarin. I am very anxious after being off it for a month, I am getting tingling feelings from the start to the end of the supposably cured dvt, which isn't allowed to be re scanned after treatment - we are told that by the GPs that they assume it has gone and there is no need for further tests - so this is making me want to go to A&E to get assurance tests by way of scanning.
I am paranoid that the dvt could re develop in the same place from where it left off and travel upwards towards the groin. So this poses a few questions:
If there is a reoccurence can it be in the same place and follow extensively further from where it stopped?
Can a reoccurence happen this quickly after stopping medication?
How would I know if it is happening and going to my groin or pelvic vein?

Many Thanks in advance!

Is there a way to tell the difference between pulled muscle or pinched
nerve pain and DVT (no swelling, no heat)? Is it a different type of
pain? Specific location? Can you tell by palpation?

Pain after removing stockings

Has anyone had pain in their leg after removing their stockings for the evening? Lately, when I remove my stockings before going to bed, I am having something "moving" around in my foot. It feels like it travels up my leg. I can feel it in my abdomen and then I get stabbing pains in my chest area. This all happens within 10 minutes after taking off the stockings and lying down to sleep. I am worried about the stabbing pains in my chest and wondered if these were "mini clots" moving after the stockings relieved pressure. Can the stockings actually cause blood flow to stop in the foot area?

Any help would be appreciated.

This is by far the worst side effect for me, the low grade headaches. Does
anyone take anything for them ? My dr said Tylenol was fine but I only ever take
one, not everyday but occasionally. Someone told me yesterday that it takes
your body a month to get used to the warfarin then the side effects settle down.
I hope so cos I'm almost at that point( on Friday).

Warfarin destroys your bones!

Osteoporosis

Anyone having major problems out there with Warfarin destroying your bones? Any fractures? Vitamin K in necessary for the health of your bones and Warfarin blocks it out.

After initial reports that warfarin could reduce bone mineral density, several studies have demonstrated a link between warfarin use and osteoporosis-related fracture. A 1999 study in 572 women taking warfarin for deep venous thrombosis, risk of vertebral fracture and rib fracture was increased; other fracture types did not occur more commonly.[22] A 2002 study looking at a randomly selected selection of 1523 patients with osteoporotic fracture found no increased exposure to anticoagulants compared to controls, and neither did stratification of the duration of anticoagulation reveal a trend towards fracture.[23]
A 2006 retrospective study of 14,564 Medicare recipients showed that warfarin use for more than one year was linked with a 60% increased risk of osteoporosis-related fracture in men; ... read more

How can I safely come off Eliquis

I have been on Eliquis for 2 years. I got it for side effekts of
another medication. Also got betablocker in the same time. I think
the doctor in the acut clinic acted very sloppy and did not ask
any questions about if I had bleeding problems. Actually I had
because all started with stomac wound. Since half a year I have
gradually been off betablocker and that was a fight. Now has time
come for Eliquis, which is a new blood thinner. I will first go to
my doctor and ask for a investigation if I really have any risk
for thrombosis and if there are any problems with my heart. If the
results is ok I will then take the step and stop with Eliquis.
Wonder if there is any other persons eating Eliquis in this forum?
Want company on this trip. Sorry for my bad english but I am
swedish and do my best.

This is also known as 'Lupus Anticoagulant' but does not necessarily mean you have lupus or 'Hughes Syndrome'. If you have it, have you had any of these symptoms:

--Multiple Miscarriages
--Neurological Symptoms (muscle weakness, falling, balance/vertigo issues, numbness, etc.) or other symptoms that mymic Multiple Sclerosis
--Stroke or TIA's (transient eschemic attacks--mini strokes)
--Frequent, intense migraine headaches
--Clotting when young, or
--Any other symptoms your doc attributes to this disorder?

In hindsite, every medical issue I've ever had (that is not attributable to an accident or a snakebite) is attributable to this disorder and my FVL. I read that chronic gallbladder problems or early removal of it is common in FVL sufferers, but no connection has been made to know why. I had mine out at 24 y/o!

I'd like to hear from any and all of you w/ APS!

Anyone on High Blood Pressure pills also?

Hi, I've recently started Coumadin therapy for a DVT. I've been taking a prescribed diuretic (which reduces salt/sodium in the body as I understand it) the past few years to high blood pressure. My doc doesn't think there will be any issues between it and the Warfarin (which is Sodium, right?), but I'm still concerned. I have been getting headaches regularly since starting the warfarin, so I'm concerned this might be a cause?

Anyone else out there on High BP meds while on Warfarin treatment ?

Numbness - bloody clot?

Hi all.

I have recently traveled a long haul flight (23 hours in the air) - I wore
compression tights during the flight.

Since the flight, I felt some soreness in both my calves, similar to sore muscles
which may or may not be related to walking around sightseeing. This only lasted
a day or two.
I've also been experiencing a numbness in my bum cheek - numb to the touch but
gets quite tingly and sore when sitting. I've had this for about 2 weeks now.

Does this sound like symptoms of a clot? I'm only thinking of a clot due to the
long flight and also my contraceptive pill apparently makes me twice as likely to
get a clot, so I'm worried.

I don't have access to a doctor right now either, so if this sounds like a possible
clot I'd need to travel about 2 hours to find a dr.

First Rib Resection Experiences Please

Hello,

I am a 26 year old active and otherwise fit and healthy female that was admitted to
hospital in January with a very swollen right arm (there was a 4cm diameter difference
from the left arm), it was a distinct purple/grey colour and all of the veins that were
hidden deeper under the skin were visible and the normally visible green veins were
almost protruding.

Turns out I had a 20cm clot running through my shoulder and down my arm in the
subclavian vein. I had surgery straight away to dissolve then vacuum out the clot with
good results. The specialists all tried to put the cause down to being on the pill even
through I had been on it for 10 years, it wasn't until after a venogram that showed my
vein was compressed in my thoracic outlet by the collar bone and first rib that we knew
I had a mechanical issue.

I was on warfarin for 6 months, have now been off it for 2 weeks. The problem is that I
am constantly experiencing a dull ache generally along... read more

DVT Leg Swelling

Hey all, I am about a month into my warfarin treatment for a DVT left leg (thigh high to calf) and subsequent PE in each lung. I personally believe the clot was in my leg for some time before what I thought was a muscle pull in my calf revealed the DVT. I am active (jog, sports).
When does the swelling in the leg go away? My case is calf down to ankle - no thigh swelling. Has anyone had swelling, then after DVT treatment it is gone? I am reading some threads where people have swelling for life. My doctors say it is normal to see swelling for a couple of months until the clot dissolves back into the body and depending on vein damage the swelling might never go away. I am curious to hear other stories.
I am currently wearing compression stockings during the day which if I am on my feet part of the day I have no swelling. I also read that wearing stockings after being diagnoses with DVT you can reduce your chances of chronic issues later on.
I don't mind the healing process, but ... read more
