One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Do I have DVT?

I'm worried I might have DVT. A few days ago I noticed my right calf was sore it felt like DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) but only in the right calf and I hadn't exercised it in over a week. The soreness appeared randomly I had not exercised legs in over a week. Anyway I massaged a little (before I knew anything about DVT) and it grew more sore over the hours. I tried to spend less time sitting and get more sleep. I rested good for 2-3 days and the soreness is pretty much gone. However, my calf still looks a little bigger/swollen than the left and I have a hard to explain sensation in it. It almost feels a little tight at times I feel pulses there. Also, when laying down and sitting my right foot is often colder than my left as if it's getting poor circulation in comparison. It's not red or purple or any type of color though and it does not feel "warm". Do you think I have DVT? What else would cause them symptoms?

Can bruising cause elevated d-dimer?

Can bruising cause an elevated d-dimer level?

I went to the ER about 5 weeks ago with what I think ended up
being a massive case of indigestion. I did feel tightness in the
chest, stomach pain, and pain across my upper back. After blood
work showed D-dimer of .93, Dr. did CT of chest, came back clear,
and chest X-ray. Good heart, BP, oxygen levels. I felt better
within an hour and haven't had problems since. However, 2 days
later D-dimer was checked again and it was 1.23. Then two weeks
later it had gone down to .9 again. I've had ultrasound done on
legs and arms/neck, all clear. Now this week it is higher than
it's been: 1.35. I have tested heterzygous for Factor V Leiden.
I do bruise easy and have about 5 or 6 bruises on my body. The
unknown is so scary. I have an apt with a hematologist this week.

I am currently studying Product Design at University. I have been
tasked with designing a product for DVT.

What products do you recommend and why?

What should I consider in particular when designing a product for DVT?

Do the products you use meet the requirements you need and do you feel
stylish and proud of how it looks or the product itself.

Many Thanks,
Designer_Andrea :)

Don't worry, I know you guys aren't doctors so I'm not looking to hold you to a diagnosis, but just didn't want to go to the hospital needlessly, so would really appreciate hearing your views. (It has to be hospital as I'm flying in less than 48 hours and can't get a doc's appointment in time)

About a month ago I woke up and the top of my foot felt as though somebody had stamped on it but there was no swelling or discolouration. I just loosened off the laces on my trainers and carried on. Since then my foot has swollen quite badly and feels colder than the other one. It is generally a little better first thing in the morning and seems to improve a bit with exercise, but nothing makes a huge difference. Last couple of days I now have a dull throb in my calf which has made me concerned about flying and DVT associated risks.

Would appreciate any views on the symptoms.

Successful feminine products for periods

Hi everyone,

My question is, what kinds of feminine products do you use successfully with
your heavy period? Also, how do you manage pain without being on ibuprofen?

I just started Xarelto a month ago and my period will start any minute. I was on
the pill to control heavy bleeding and a 7-9 day period already. Now that I'm off,
I'm terrified of what's coming. I can't use tampons, so anything else is helpful

Please, please do not post horror stories of almost bleeding to death. I am
freaked out enough as it is from other posts.

I just started wearing the venowave- I year post Dvt still dealing with daily pain
very little swelling. The blood still gets trapped in my leg a bit upon exertion.
Here is my question.. I'm still hoping to build collateral veins to better the outflow
from my leg muscle ( my DVts all in calf have dissolved) do you think wearing the
venowave all the time will prevent new collaterals from forming as the venowave
is pumping the blood up for the body instead of the body learning to do it for
itself? Thanks for your thoughts

Fishnet professional dance tights

I heard from a dancer that fishnet professional dance tights
provide some compression, so I bought a pair to check it out for
my PTS. They work very well. They provide about a 30 mm
compression, they are very breathable and cool with the mesh
fabric unlike the heavy fabric of regular compression hose. They
were $28.00 which is far less than compression hose. Two
disadvantages however, if one needs 40 mm compression or more they
probably wouldn't work, and they are a full tight or pantyhose
which a lot of men might not want to wear. By the way men , they
come in a light tan that are hardly noticeable even if you want to
wear shorts with them. I wouldn't recommend black with a back seam
that tap dancers wear LOL. Think outside the box and try them.

PVT - Why do I have it?

For three months I was super fatigued, loss my appetite, had a
small fever every now and again and I lost 12 pounds in the course
of a month and half. I am only 24 years old and did not understand
why I felt so run down and full all of the time. Originally, I
went to see my Oncologist/Hematologist for a lymph node that had
not gone away for 5 months. She ordered me to have a CT scan done
of my neck and chest. When she received the results I remember her
saying, “please do not freak out, but we have found 2 lesions in
your liver and one in your Kidney.” At that point I thought the
worse, obviously, I thought it was cancer. She ordered me to have
an MRI that next day of my abdomen. When we got the results back
we were relieved and confused by the results. I was told I had
intrahepatic portal vein thrombosis (PVT) in the right branches
effecting lobes V, VII and VIII of my liver. My kidney luckily
was just another incidental finding that was benign. My doct... read more

Hello everyone thank you in advance for
reading my concerns. I am 21 I am 5'6 135
pounds. I am active, I have no medical
history . I eat healthy. Two years ago I
went on an aluminum boat and foolishly stood
up in the boat lost balance and I fell
really hard in the boat I hurt my right leg.
I had a huge bruise starting two inches from
bottom of my knee going down to four inches
above the ankle I was badly bruised for
about two weeks. I have noticed for at least
a year a soft lump on the right side of my
right leg right where the impact of the
fall/bruise was located well I only now have
been more curious about the lump. The lump
is soft and not visible I only can feel by
touch of my hand when flexing my leg or
while squating I have no pain no redness or
swelling around area nothing weird besides
the small lump which is about the size of a
quarter but feels like skin. I am Concerned
this may be a blood clot.. I do have a bit

DVT how do I know it has gone?

I had a post surgery DVT after a small op. The NHS has been shocking, the nurses
telling me to "Google it" if I have any questions!!!!!! I feel I have never really got to the
bottom of it. I was given support stockings to wear during the operation, but as I had
never been in hospital before I didn't know what they were and they certainly weren't
tight. After trying to remove them to leave the hospital the day of the surgery, the
nurse who helped me remove them said I should have kept them on as I have
varicose veins, but removed them anyway! I was still on morphine so they really
should have taken that into account more. 2 days later I woke up with the swollen
painful leg. I have been on warfarin for 3 months but stopped last week. They pain
has come back in my calf. I am loathed to go back to the hospital after such a bad
experience....... I might add, the Dr doing my leg scan said no you dont have any clots
after scanning the front of my leg. I asked her if ... read more

Hi, I am taking warafin for DVT in my leg. I should be coming off it soon and was wondering if I could start eating green leafy vegetables
once I am off or do I still have to monitor my Vitamin K intake??

I am very nervous about coming off because I don't want the DVT to return . I want to make sure I eat the right foods.

Any advice / comments would be greatly appreciated!

Has anyone had a thrombus (blood clot) in their arm pit extending into their subclavicle? I have one diagnosed by ultrasound (after a mammogram) and the Dr. sent me out for blood tests and aspirin. Warned me about PE and worsening symptoms and told me to lay off kick boxing for time, but no coumadin, yet. That is probably coming, but still...I am concerned.

Post DVT Catheter Recovery

I was diagnosed with may Turner syndrome last week and had a clot
in my leg that had to be broken up. I had a catheter placed behind
my knees for 24 hours while they pumped clot breaking drugs (TPA)
into it in order to break up the clot and 2 stents put in my groin
area. I came home from the hospital (and have had the catheter out
for) a week but have been in much pain. My calf muscle feels very
tight and won't allow me to fully flex or extend my leg all the
way and there is some discoloration behind my knee. There seems to
be some fluid still leftover and a small ball or cyst right behind
my knee. I don't know whether this is just normal recovery from
the catheter being in my leg or if I potentially have a bakers
cyst. Walking is very difficult as i cannot straighten or flex my
leg and my range of motion is very limited. I am nervous that
there were complications and that not everything is fixed. I don't
know what quite to expect from the recovery and ti... read more
