One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Very worried I might have a DVT - Please help.

Hi.

I've been worrying about blood clots for nearly a year now.

My family are convinced it's my OCD and anxiety causing the worry.

It all started with these bubbling sensations I got in my legs.
I was convinced this was a sign I had a blood clot.
I went to the doctor, and he checked around my leg and for a couple of other
things, and told me there was no sign of a clot.

This reassured me for several months, until recently when I started to get a pain
when I walked behind my knee.
Like before, I worried that this could be a fatal blood clot.
It went away after a couple of weeks, but then I began to get pains in my calve on
the opposite leg to the pain when I walked.
This made me wonder weather the reason the pain went away was because the
blood clot moved to the other leg.
I then also began to experience another pain in the other leg too.
I then experienced an odd chest pain, that would come on and off.
With my hand I could find the area it was painful,... read more

Hello all. I know its long but please read but I just want to give my story as well as provide some hope. First te back story....

I'm 26 y/o and would consider myself a healthy person. On Jan 7 of this year I was playing football and suffered a knee injury. At first they said that I wouldnt require surgery but then a month later they said I did, which I did.....Worst mistake.

About a day after the surgery, I started to feel a cramping in my calf, in the same leg of my knee surgery. Just thinking it was pulled muscle, I let it go but then it started to get worse. So I googled my symptoms and it sounded like I had a dreaded dvt. But I was so scared because everything I was reading so was scary. So I end up going to the hospital the same day to get it checked out. Low and behold, that's exactly what I had and I was devastated. I just remember crying like a little kid in the hospital. My family soon came to comfort me. While there they put me on Warfarin as well as the shots Loven... read more

DVT re-occurance

When I was 16 I had DVT in my right leg and lower back following a lengthy surgery to pin my right femur following a motorcycle accident. After a long recovery from the broken leg I had no further problems until age 68. I now have DVT (cascading?)from groin to lower calf. I am on lofomax & warfarin, for 5 days now,and I am wondering if my DVT experience at 16 could be connected or a contributor to my current DVT experience? Also, since I have have had two DVT ocurrances, would this indicate warfarin for life? My doctor has not said anything about support stockings, should I get some on my own? Thanks for your forum.

Hi, I am 23 and have been Diagnosed with DVT on 13 March 2012. I am currently trying to do as much research as possible. I was admitted to hospital for 5 days where they monitored it. They started me on Warfarin 10mg and then lowered it to 5mg, I haven't taken any Warfarin since Saturday, because my INR count went to 5.4! I am going to Ampath for blood tests 2 times a week to monitor my INR before I start Warfarin again. While I was in Hospital they did Ultrasound Therapy on my leg which made it better, but no that I am back at home my leg is starting to Cramp again and I am scared to walk too much. Does anyone know if it is oky to wear a moon boot if I need to walk around the house or so because walking on cruches really is going to break my arms one of these days! I'm not sure if the moon boot will maybe be too tight or how does it work? And does every person have a different recovery time for DVT?
Thank you :)

When to test INR after change in dose?

I'm just beginning this long journey on warfarin/coumadin after being diagnosed with DVT.

I did a lot of research on warfarin and understnd that it has a very long half life, which means that it can take the body a considerable amount of time to adjust to changes in dosage levels, on top of its complex reaction to changes in the metabolism. So my question is, if your dosage level is changed significantly, when is the optimal time to have your INR levels restested?

I was on 5 mg. per day starting on a Saturday. My intial INR prior to starting was 1.1. I was tested again on Monday, with an INR of 1.2. On Wednesday, after almost 96 hours at that dosage level at which time the med should have reached maximum effect in my system, I still tested 1.2. My dosage was increased by 40% to 7 mg. starting Wednesday night. Blood was drawn on Saturday morning, or 60 hours after increasing the dose. INR was 2.2, with a targeted level of 2.5. My doctor called me on Sunday and has dropped my do... read more

I have read the other posts on tattooing with Coumadin but I am on
Xarelto. I was at ER last weekend ( unrelated) but blood work says
My INR is 1.2 and ER Doc explained that Xarelto works
Very differently than Coumadin. (Hence the no testing of INR). Sooooo
I need to pretty up a tattoo done by someone with more attitude than
Talent and in my mind it is no worries! Right??? 1.2 INR = no bleeding
Issues, right?

3 yrs on Warfarin to Xarelto

For those here with a chronic DVT that switched from Warfarin to Xarelto what are pros and cons? I don't mind the monthly testing, I have been on 5mg of Warfarin for three years with one major clotting setback 1.5 years ago. My concerns are 1) that we are clinical trials for this new drug, 2) if in an accident the new drugs cannot be counteracted like Warfarin can with a vitamin K injection.

Pros? Cons? to switching.

Thanks so much for any replies. Male, age 59, normal weight, Chronic DVT upper and lower leg.

Hi, been on warfrin since june 2014.
i ended up an entire leg clot 2 weeks after being sent home from
surgery. I started on 9mg of warfrin and my GP had me on 17mg until
just recently when the levels went sky high. My levels have gone from
ideal range 2 to 3 any where as high as 4.4 and as low as 1.3. When i
went to 1.3 the GP put me on clexane injection for about 5 days until
levels reached 2.3. Recently my levels reached 4.4 and my GP told me to
stop taking warfrin for a few days. This has been over a 4 week period
whilst on holidays. Stressful...
im now flying home in morning and dont know my inr result from my last
test i thinking i have a clexane before i fly to be safe. My GP never
called me. Am i crazy to fly... P.S i have been getting tested every 4
days for the last 12 weeks.

Hello,

I apologize if this topic has been discussed. I used the search feature on this site to find any info with no luck. If there is a same topic, please post the links.

I would like to know your experience of what a blood clot feels like and the story of how it started.I think I possibly have one, but without speaking to anyone on what it feels like, and basically looking up the symptoms online, I just don't know.

Whatever is going on with me, happened during thanksgiving. I noticed a slight tingling/numbness sensation right behind my left knee. I looked online and sciatica came up. I did feel pressure around my lower back at the time, and my spine was out of wack, so I made an appt with my chiropractor. He treated me twice now, but the feeling is still the same, constant numbness and tingling. And now today my calf hurts, it hurts when stretching, it didn't before and now I when I touch it, it feels like a sore muscle, kinda tight. This goes all the way down to my achil... read more

Superficial Thrombophlebitis

Can anyone comment on how long the pain from a superficial
thrombophlebitis lasts? I have developed it in the left thigh,
following varicose vein treatments. They stripped below the knee
and did sclerotherapy near the groin. Today, the pain has extended
down into my calf. An ultrasound ruled out Deep Vein Thrombosis
but I have been put on an antibiotic (Keflex) to ensure that an
infection isn't also contributing to the pain and swelling. There has
been no relief from the pain yet and I am wondering if anyone can
comment on recovery times for this? Thanks!

D-dimer tests

Does anyone have any experience of d-dimer testing in relation to DVT ?

I was given a d-dimer test as part of my initial DVT diagosis - after the 2nd positive d-dimer they agreed for me to have an ultrasound scan of my leg. I have since read quite a lot about d-dimers in Research papers etc and there is some literature which points towards d-dimer measurement being a useful indicator of DVT recurrence.

Now that I'm off warfarin (after 6 month course) I pursuaded my GP to send me for a repeat d-dimer. Its come back positive again, although at a lower level then when I had my DVT diagnosis. He has suggested that I have another d-dimer in June but I am likely to be back on warfarin by then, as i am temporarily off while have my thrombophilia tests done.

Does anyone know if d-dimer readings can be affected by warfarin (coumadin) - my GP was a little bit vague on this(!. I would also be interested in whether any of you have been having regular d-dimer tests or know any more abou... read more

PE Pain :How long?

Hi, About 3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a PE in my right lower lung. I am currently on Warfarin and still learning how to balance my levels. My question is, how long does the pain last? I understand that inflammation takes time to heal and not being able to take anti-inflammatories drags it out. I have been taking tylenol for the pain and hot compresses for the inflammation. It seems like everytime I think it is getting better, it flares up and I'm back to square one. It is worse at night and quite frustrating. I have spoken with my primary and pulmonologist and neither seemed to be concerned, should I be?
