One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

on medicine for life: share your experience

After 2 1/2 years of my first DVT, I got diagnosed with my 2nd DVT and now am on
Xarelto for life. Right now, it seems like a daunting prospect. What will I do if I need a
surgery? Should I exercise? Should I see a dr. with every headache?

There was another thread here for how long people have been on Coumadin and several
folks replied in excess of 10 years. Some even going 30-40 years. If you are one, do you
mind sharing some life experience with us? What you would have done differently ó-
wear compression stockings, put more lotion, lose weight :) Did you ever have a surgery
or bleeding?

Discomfort After Flying
Posted by Pubgirl

Hi, I suffered a DVT just over 2 years ago caused by the contraceptive pill. After 6 months on warfarin I was signed off. I was advised I could stop wearing the compression stockings also but I chose to wear them for a further 13 months.

I have recently travelled by air for the first time to Lisbon (less than 3 hours each way). I bought some flight socks from Boots and wore them both ways and before and after journey for a while.

I am experiencing discomfort since I got back last Sunday which is not too different from before I was diagnosed.I don't know whether I am being paranoid or whether to go to Urgent Care after work.

Can anybody else advise whether flying caused them pain or aching in the DVT leg? I also walked a lot whilst away for 4 days and stood at a concert for a good few hours.

Thank you for any advice/thoughts :)

Xarelto energy levels

Hi. I'm in my late 30's. Diagnosed with Dvt 2 weeks ago. Immediately stopped air
travel, smoking, oral contraceptives. Started drinking loads of water, limiting
alcohol, 40 mins exercise x 6 a week on doctors orders. In theory should be
feeling great. But exercise feels really horrible. Feel sluggish like whole body is
heavy. Sweating intensely. Any ideas why? Or what I can do/take to improve
energy? It's making me feel depressed.

Nurse won't let my INR go above 1.9

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen. My INR is 1.9. The nurse said that when she has a patient with an INR of 1.9, she will not increase the Warfarin dose! I've been told repeatedly that the goal for my INR is supposed to be between 2-3. Should I be worried about this?

Getting INR checked while visiting the US ?

I'm a UK citizen and I'm going to be in the US for a couple of weeks soon on business.
My INR has been a little unstable recently and I've been advised by the anti-coag
clinic to get my INR checked while I'm in the US in case I need to adjust my warfarin
dose. I know from past experience that without insurance as a "walk-in" patient i'll
probably have to pay a lot for an INR test, probably $250 or more. I'm wondering if
there is a cheaper/better way of going about this ?

Speculation about the cause of my DVT

Hello again, I just wanted to run a theory past any of you who might be interested in offering your opinion.

Today is 2 months since my diagnosis with DVT. I have (or had) 4 clots in my left leg, and 1 in the right. I walked around in pain for at least a month before we figure out what was going on, mainly because DVT was just not on anyone's radar.

I'm 42, not a complete couch potato, and although I have cystic fibrosis, I am in fairly good health overall. No family history of blood clots. There was no injury or surgery that preceded my clots. I've been tested for a variety of clotting disorders, and only one test (the russel viper's venom) came back abnormal. My hemotologist dismissed the results of that test, since I am currently on coumadin.

So...what caused my clots? My theory- motorcycling. I have run this past a couple of docs, and they don't bite, but I am beginning to think this is the most likely culprit.

I started riding again about 2 years ago, after an ext... read more

Hi! I was in a car accident in September. They had to take my spleen as it ruptured and do a laparotomy because of the bleeding and now I have a dvt in the vein that connected my spleen to my kidney. I was on heparin drip in the hospital for 4 days, sent home on lovenox injections twice a day for 20 days as well as Coumadin. I have since stopped the lovenox injections for about 2 weeks now and am still taking my Coumadin. My INR level has NEVER changed. Everytime I go it is 1.1. Im so confused and scared! Is this normal for my INR to have never budged??? We have played with the Coumadin and I have been taking 10mg for 3 days then the dr drops it back down to 5 mg for the remaining days of each week. When i called the dr today to let him know I was still at 1.1 he told me to drop my Coumadin to 10 mgs for 2 days and 5mg for the remaining days! WHy is he lessening my dosage? Shouldnt he be upping them??? HELP!!!!

Does anyone else have nutcracker syndrom

Hi All,

Does anyone else out there have nutcracker syndrome? I had a DVT back in August and while the doctor's don't know if that is what caused my DVT, my doctor is now saying this is what is causing my PTS like symptoms. I'm just looking for support, because it seems I just keep getting bad news. I feel like I take a half step forward and 10 steps backwards since being diagnosed with a DVT.

I'm really, really frustrated with life.

Vein Ablation to relieve PTS?

I wanted to see if anyone on here had any experience with vein abalation as a way to relieve PTS. I had a DVT a couple months ago and the doctor went in and removed it in the hospital. I am now on xarelto, but I have now been diagnosed with venous insufficiency in both my great saphaneous and small saphenous veins in my left leg. I've been to 2 different doctors, one wants to laser both veins and the other wants to do a combo of RF and foam sclerotherapy to close the veins.

I'm very, very scared. My leg swells a little (seems mine isn't as bad as others on this forum). The swelling gets worse when I stand for longer than 15 minutes and my leg will discolor a little. I also have burning sensations in my knee, thigh and groin. I think my worst symptom is how my left leg feels more tired than my right. I've also noticed a bunch of new spider veins. I'm only 33 and maybe it's stupid of me, but I want my legs to look nice for as long as possible.

If this procedure really ca... read more

Shortness of Breath, Calf tingling

Hi all,
The last 6 days I've had an issue where I can't seem to catch my breath unless I'm
at rest. Even shampooing makes me exhausted. I thought I needed some
ventolin as I just returned from Asia and the air was really bad there. I had
asthma as a kid so thought maybe that was it. But went to the doctor who sent
me to have a chest ct because I'm on bc and just had a long haul flight. Ct was
normal 2 days ago and I was sent home. My breathing hasn't improved at all and
my calf and foot have had pins and needles since last night. No pain, swelling or
redness - just kind of uncomfortable and tingling. Saw a doctor again today for it
and he said without swelling and pain it couldn't be a dvt. I didn't have an
ultrasound at the hospital because the doctor there said that since I already had
breathing symptoms, if i had a clot it would already be in the lungs already. I hate
hospitals and don't want to go back for nothing but don't know what to do... Ca... read more
