One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Post op DVT - a few questions

I was diagnosed with a post-op DVT in my right calf following a 2 hour lumbar decompression (diagnosis approx 3 days post op). My only symptoms were excrutiating pain in the right calf when trying to stand. A blood clot was identified via two ultrasounds performed three days apart. My calf was not larger but it was v.painful to touch. There has not been any discolouration.

I do not have any other risk factors for a DVT other than a very slow heart rate and low blood pressure. I would consider myself to be fit and very active. I am 41. 80% of the time I eat very healthily and I do not drink alcohol.

My treatment so far has been
Week 1: Fragmin shots with warfarin (various doses)- level eventually hit 2.6
Week 2: Warfarin tablets - dosage varying - levels started to drop down to 1.6
Week 3: Warfarin tablets and Fragmin shots - Warfarin dosage up to 10mg again

Side-effects

1. Is it likely to be the Warfarin/Fragmin that is causing the pain around my spinal wound? The ... read more

d dimer test

I went to dr complaining about chest congestion. Dr did xray of chest. Found
nothing. He also did blood work where my d dimer test came out to .54. He sent
me to er to have a cat scan to see if I had a clot in my chest. That came out
negative. My d dimer at the hospital tested out to .85. Is the rise within a week
indicative of having a clot somewhere? I have been reading that much higher
numbers are worrisome. Please let me kjnow your thoughts. Thank you.

So I just got results from another ultrasound that I have phlebitis. That relieves
things a bit. But on the ride home I fainted and am now short of breath with a
slight pain on the right side of my chest that moves around to the right side. I'm
worried about a pulmonary embolism. Don't know if it's anxiety or what.

Clot possibly? Feel hopeless

So about a week ago I started having a dull ache and pain in my left calf and mild swelling and thought nothing of it. It continued the next day and I went into a walk in clinic and they suggested I go to the ER and get an ultrasound. I went and they scanned form my groin to my ankle and everything was fine. The problems persisted and I went back and they suggested staying off my feet that it was musculoskeletal. So I went on like nothing was wrong and then I couldn't stand it anymore and went to a different ER Friday morning and had another ultrasound done and it showed negative. Now more than a week later I'm still having mild swelling over the calf and odd sensations going into my foot. My questions and concerns are
-Could they have missed a clot.
-When I took the vein in my calf I can feel it down into my ankle. Is that a worry.
-The area that is swollen seems almost like a fatty area over the calf muscle. When I flex it its almost like fluid over it.

Hi All,
I am interested to hear people that experienced muscle and myofascial
pain while on anticoagulants. In this forum there are a lot of people
that mentioned they suffered back pains while on anticoagulants. It
experienced it myself. And Xarelto mentions back pains as a side
effect. I am trying to understand better why this thing happen so
that this can be avoided for people that like me who are under
anticoagulant therapy. Thanks.

Allergy to LMWH?

Anyone experienced an allergy to LMWH? I was on Tinzeparin for 5 days
and wound up with hives and a rash. Switched to Daltaparin, and
reacted to that too. Already had a treatment failure on Xarelto (got
PE after DVT) and possible treatment failure on Warfarin. Just
wondering if anyone had success with an alternative LMWH or Heparin.

How to deal with DVT pain

Hi all.. I'm new to this forum and have been reading up on lots of people's
experiences. About 5 weeks ago I developed a pain in my leg which I thought
was due to a cramp..it did not get any better, just much worse..I waited for 10
days before seeing the out of hours GP. She told me I had measured my leg
incorrectly and she ruled out a DVT..several days later still in excruciating pain I
visited my own GP..he ruled out a DVT, but requested a non urgent ultrasound
scan.. I was told the waiting time was 6 weeks for this..I visited the emergency
department who also ruled out a DVT..they believed it to be a bakers cyst behind
my left knee.. After 4 weeks of being in continuous constant severe pain I
returned to the emergency department.. A fourth doctor again ruled out a DVT,
but requested an urgent ultrasound as he thought I had ruptured my "bakers
cyst"..this I had the following day..you can imagine the shock I was in when told
my bakers cyst was indeed a DVT... read more

Scared of second clot

Back in April I had 3 small PE's caused by birth control. I was
taking microgestin fe and stupidly skipping the placebo week and
just going to the next pack. I did not have a period for 6
months. I went to the ER with pain in my back when i breathed and
was told it was pleurisy. 3 weeks later i came back because I
coughed up blood. Turns out I had 3 small clots in my lung none
in legs. I was put on xarelto and was tested and was negative for
all of the factors. Now that my 6 months are up my doc has ok'd
me to go off of the meds esp since I am bleeding too much with
menstruation and I am terrified of another clot. What is the
chance of getting another clot if I had no factors and do not take
bc? Will it hurt again if I get another one?

Has anyone experienced intermittent blood rushes through the ear
after a DVT? It is driving me crazy. I'll suddenly feel a pulsing,
pounding blood rush in the ear on the same side as the DVT, that
momentarily deafens me and then it disappears.

DVT and mini pill confusion

I have a DVT in my right calf, diagnosed 30th July, I am currently on 6mg of Warfarin a day, INR was 2.9 today. I talked to a nurse practitioner about contraceptive alternatives, as I stopped taking my combined pill Yasmin the day I was diagnosed - they believe this is what caused by DVT.

The nurse practitioner suggested the progesterone-only-pill (POP) otherwise known as the mini pill, as I didn't fancy the coil or implant.
I was given 3 months of Ceravette today, I haven't taken any yet but I just read the leaflet and it says inside "Do not take if you have a thrombosis".

Er, alarm bells are ringing! What should I do? Does anyone else on here take this pill with a DVT?

Protein C deficiency

Hello,

I had a proximal DVT almost a year ago and I was on warfarin for 6
months. I was taking birth control pill, so I was advised to quit,
which I did. I'm in my late thirties.

I received the results of the genetic blood tests and other tests that
I underwent. Everything was fine, except for the protein C: normal
levels go from 70 to 140 and I have 52 only:(. I have seen three
different haemathologists to know what to do: either start blood
thinners again or hope for the best and go on with my life... Two of
them told me 52 is not that low, and once I've quit the contraceptive
pill I should be fine. But one of them told me I should re-start blood
thinners immediately! She said that protein C deficiency is very
dangerous and that I will have another DVT (or even worse - a PE)
almost for sure! I am so scared now. I can't figure out what to do!

Could you give me your opinion, please? Are there anyone here with
this deficiency? What were you told by yo... read more
