DVT deep vein thrombosis forum

One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Hi there, my name is Kate and I'm hoping for some help here... 6 days ago (a
Friday) a varicose vein that had never given me any troubled tarted HURTING.
only when I stoop up from sitting, and after walking a bit the pain would go away.
Felt like it was fire shooting down my leg. Stiff leg and hadn't to bend at the knee.
Crying all Friday night. Saturday I ended up in Urgent care for it and was
diagnosed with Phlebitis. Told to wear stockings, take Alieve and do warm
compresses. By Monday it was no better and then I had a red line extending down
my leg from the point of my varicose vein on the inside of my right knee. Went to
my doc and he told me the same thing; warm compresses, Alieve and stockings,
also elevate when possible. To be honest though, the heat made my leg feel even
stiffer.
Last night it started spreading? Or traveling? It still hurts in my knee, but it also
was hurting in my inner mid thigh. I called our Nurse line just to find out if this

Calf pain but different than prior clor

I have had a prior DVT in my calf and a couple of superficial clots on the large vein on my inner thigh. I am now hyper sensative any time I get a calf pain.

For my prior clots it would hurt deep in the calf and would not get better when I walk. It would get worse the more I walked until I couldn't walk.

For the last couple of days, I've had pain the the same calf but much different type of pain than the prior clots. This time, there is not any pain in the large part of my calf at all, only on the very bottom section. Also, this time, stretching and walking seems to make it feel better. The pain is very isolated to the very lower part of my calf near and hurts just pressing slightly on it (feels like pressing on a bruise). Also it hurts worst at night when just moving my foot in bed when sleeping and wakes me up. However, after walking around for awhile it gets better throughout the day.

I read a couple of places that you can't "walk off" calf pain in a DVT. Does any... read more

Returning to work after a DVT

Diagnosed with a DVT from about 8 inches above right knee to 8 inches below, 15 days ago. GP prescribed Xarelto, which I must take for 6 months. Terrible pain and swelling for a few days, now almost completely gone. Some soreness/stiffness remains when pressing on area. Walked for 20 minutes last night and tolerated it well.

I work in a job that is physically demanding; lots of walking and handling heavy objects up to 80 lbs/36kgs. My concern is when to return to work. My understanding is that the greatest risk of a DVT breaking loose is during the first 4 weeks. Wondering if it's safe to return to work within this danger period. Doctor said I can use my own best judgment, that activity by itself is not risky. That's fine if all I do is walk, do light housework, or run errands. Different on the job, lifting weight, on my feet for an extended time, and under time pressure to get the job done.

I can handle walking fairly well now, but wonder about being on my feet with heavy o... read more

DVT and avascular necrosis

Hi everyone - I'm happy to have found this forum. I semi-recently (almost three months ago) had hip surgery and, as a result, developed acute DVT. After four weeks of complaining about severe leg pain, I was finally diagnosed with a blood clot extending from my calf into my proximal femoral vein. I have now been on Xarelto for about two months, and my leg feels much better, which makes me think my clot is resolving. However, my hip pain is excruciating - worse than before the surgery - despite having a cortisone injection a few weeks ago. Since my doctor does not seem worried about this ("It will just take time!") I have been getting second opinions from Dr. Google. :) I was wondering if anyone here had DVT leading to avascular necrosis in the hip joint. It is just an idea that I have and was curious if anyone knew about a correlation between these two conditions. Or... if anyone has experience with DVT after hip arthroscopy and can comment on how it affected the recovery, I would l... read more

Hi, I am due to come off warfarin end of next month, they say it was caused from my contraception injection and possibly my brca1 gene. I cannot find any happy stories of people not having a recurring clot and I'm worrying about having another and being on warfarin for life. My first 7 weeks on warfarin have been horrendous, enflamed intestines, pressure all through my internal organs, couldn't function, nausea, hairloss, memory loss and pains throughout my body. Look forward to reading all replies

Hello again,
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate the time taken for your responses to my
questions.
I am still on warfarin, but am battling to maintain my INR levels within the range.
One 5mg pink tablet daily, for a week, has my readings at 1,4.
Two x5mg tablets daily for a week, sets my levels at 4,4..
I am now doing fluctuating doses daily, but no combination i have tried yet, keeps
me constant within the range.

Any suggestions out there my fellow ratpoison users?
Regards
Rob

Life After Coumadin

I had a PE in February from a DVT in my upper arm. I was put on Coumadin and suffered for over 6 months with migraines, chest pains, shortness of breath and vertigo. I thought I was dying or had cancer or something, but doctors kept telling me that it was my imagination or just anxiety attacks and that there was no way that coumadin was causing my symptoms.

I got off Coumadin in the beginning of August and I started feeling like my old self after three weeks. No more headaches, no more chest pains and no more shortness of breath or vertigo.

There are people who have the same reaction that I did to Coumadin. If you are one of those people, then look into getting off of it and don't let the doctor tell you that you are just suffering from anxiety. When I was on coumadin stress from work would almost always cause a migraine and chest pains and I never had those symptoms before coumadin. Three weeks later, I still had stressful work situations, but I had no issues.

Hello world,
I am thrilled to be part of this forum. It is good to know, that warfarin does have
side effects.
I started on the juice 12 days ago. On the 13/6/14, my INR reading was 1,4.
Today, one week later, my INR reading is 1,6.
However, i seem to be experiencing a few side effects. I am battling for breath,
especially after a coughing bout. I cant inhale immediately, but have to wait until
my air passage opens up.
I am very fatigued. My other half says im moody, grumpy and very volitile with
the kids around making noises etc..
I was discharged from hospital a week ago after spending a week in hospital for
dvt. I have 6 of them from my ankle to my mid thigh area.
It still hurts like the blazes, but like most irritations in life, you get used to them.
Can anyone tell me how long the recovery period is?
Regards

I have started this post again with the right letter !!
As I said in my other post I was injected with Vitamin K, over a month ago, in a overnight stay in hospital
My INR has finally crept up above 2 and I can finally stop my Tinszaparin jabs .
My Warfarin dosage is now 20% higher than it was before the K.
Also I have heard that as my last DVT was nearly 2 years ago that I did not have to have a "bridging" dose of Tinzaparine. I this right??. If so my belly will not be that happy to say the least

DVT/PE now Xarelto.

I recently had DVT and PE in lung and saddle area.
Am now on Xarelto. Did 3 weeks and now on x1 day.
Has been 3 weeks. Breathing seems better, but still get so tired. Is this normal to get tired
so easily? Am assuming is just part of the healing.
Also am wondering if others were effected emotionally? Having to take Xarelto for life is
not a fun thought, even though it will basically keep me alive and no more PE (genetic
disorder discovered). I just can't seem to get my motivation back and feel down about it.
Also still get some throbbing once in a while in the calf. Guess thats the healing?
Did anyone else get down about all this? Is this just a temporary thing?

Peeing at night a bunch

Had DVT with bilateral PE a few months ago. I drink a bunch of water during the day which seems to gather in my leg and lower extremities. At night I'm up going to the bathroom 6 or 8 times. My doc says it's because of all the fluid I'm retaining. The disrupted sleep is getting difficult to cope with.

Anyone else have this issue??? Any solutions???
