One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Post thrombectomy

I had a thrombectomy in my right leg on Monday, which was 6 days ago. The
doctor was able to remove the clot which was quite extensive. Apparently it was
caused by family history and the fact that I had been taking birth control pills for
14 years. I was doing better with the pain in walking until yesterday. I probably
walked a little too much just trying to bring some normalcy back into my life.
Today, I can barely out any pressure on my foot without pain. I'm 34 year old
female. I'm on 7.5mg of Coumadin. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to walk
normally, and what I should do for the pain? I'm keeping it elevated and taking
Tylenol. I see my doctor tomorrow. I'm just looking for some relief in the mean
time.

Hey everyone, I'm just feeling a little concerned. I'm 24 years old, healthy, not on birth
control and I don't smoke. I've had this deep ache (like a sore muscle) feeling in my
calf for a few days now. I took a long trip in the car this past weekend, but during the
car ride I was pretty active with my legs (stretching, resting in different positions,
getting up and rotating my ankles) not just in a sitting position for several hours. Its
not terribly painful, but just enough to recognize it's there and annoy me. My calf isn't
swollen or reddened, and I'm not experiencing any numbness. The achiness seems to
get better when I'm sleeping and worsens when I'm up on my feet moving around all
day. Could this be a DVT? At first I thought maybe It was just a sore muscle from
walking around so much during my trip but it's been 5 days and it doesn't seem to be
improving.

Hello everyone

I'm a student midwife looking for someone who has (had) DVT during pregnancy (either
who had a history of previous DVT before pregnancy or DVT that happen for the 1st time
during your pregnancy).
I would really appreciate if you could give me a few minutes of your time to talk to me
about your experience, feelings and everything that happen to you during the wonderful
time that pregnancy is.

I'm about to write a case study on this medical condition so that would be wonderful if
someone would reply to this post.

Thank you so much for reading! :)

Pregnant with possible clot

I am I'm desperate need of some help and answers.
I'm five months pregnant. 3 weeks ago I developed awful burning and chest pains
when I breathed in. It was so bad I went to the ER at my doctors request. They
performed and EKG and did a d dimer test. EKG was normal as was the d dimer
test for clots.

I went back to my doc for a follow up and she basically told me it was probably
heartburn or anxiety. I started feeling better and had zero symptoms for a week or
so. All of a sudden today out of nowhere the right side my chest/lung area began
hurting. It feels like a pulled muscle whenever I take a deep breath or move a
certain way or laugh. Once again I'm worried that since I am high risk due to
being pregnant this is a clot. On a side note, I've been experiencing leg pain in the
back of my right thigh for 3 months now that I chalked up to sciatica as the pain
comes and goes. No swollen leg, no hot to the touch area on my leg, but I have to
wonder if it's rel... read more

Cough/Mucus after a DVT/PE

Hello, I had a DVT in the beginning of January that made spend 2 days
in the hospital. After the Heparin/Lovenox/Warfarin welcome cocktail
was put on Xarelto by GP 4 days after I left the hospital. Although no
significant PE was found during the stay in the hospital, I
experienced mild short of breath and pointy pleurisy-type pains for
months before having the DVT that took me to the hospital, so I assume
my lungs were also under stress. I also experience and still
experience, one month after leaving the hospital, some mild no
productive cough and cold-type mucus coming out of throat once a
while, specially in the mornings. Have anybody felt the same thing
after DVT/PE/VTE? Good Luck to All and Thanks.

Protein C Deficiency?

I've been told that I have protein C deficiency based on some blood tests that were done in the hospital during my PE episode. My Protein C level appears to be slightly below the recommended range (I believe my test result was about 59). Also read somewhere that Protein C results are skewed downward during a clotting episode (which was my situation).

Couple questions...

1. For those that have Protein C deficiency, have your doctors indicated that you need to be on Warafin for life?

2. Did you have your Protein C level checked/re-tested once you were certain you had no clotting conditions?

I understand that in order to have it re-checked, I would need to come off of Warfin for a while to get an accurate result.

I would like to know to get a better understanding if I in fact have this condition (and for my kids as well) and to confirm if I should stay on Warafin for life :(.

Thanks in advance for your responses...

Patricia, et al.. I can use some help with interpretation. This was 30 days from the onset.. 15 days from start of Coumadin therapy. This was from the center involved in the ATTRACT study.

Maybe my clot was too severe and high risk, thoughts?

Date of Study: 9/21/2011

Reason for Study: Follow up of left leg deep vein thrombosis and assessment for possible thrombolytic therapy.

Procedure: The bilateral lower extremity veins were examined with high-resolution B-mode imaging and pulsed wave Doppler.

Findings: Doppler velocity waveforms show absent respiratory variation at all levels distal to the common femoral vein in the deep system. Duplex ultrasound shows absent flow in the left posterior tibial, popliteal, superficial femeral, common femeral, and profunda femeris veins. There is peri-thrombus flow in the proximal portion of the left common femoral vein.

Can anyone tell me if chronic clot that has been treated stand a greater chance of
clotting, or does it just mean that the clot is now part of the vein.

I am due to come off xarelto in one month and chronic clot is visible, but no
occlusion anymore.

Early Symptoms

Hi! I was diagnosed in 2011 with Factor V Leiden while pregnant. I
have never had a clot before. I take daily baby aspirin (most days at
least. I do sometimes forget). I'm just curious if I may need to get
checked.

1. About 5 days ago, I woke up with BOTH legs being very sore/achy.
Mostly, it was the back of my legs. Felt a bit like I had been hiking
and had muscle aches from that - even though I had actually been
pretty sedentary for the previous 3-4 days. I also had pain in the
bottom of my feet. This felt a bit more like nerve pain.

2. Today, the muscle aches are better but both knee joints are sore.
And, I have a painful spot just above my left knee. It's tender to
the touch, but there is no swelling or streaking.

Has anyone had similar symptoms? Is this something I should get
checked or give a few more days???

D Dimmer Test After Stopping Warfarin

Hi, can anyone let me know what advice or information they found regarding the use of D Dimmer test after stopping taking warfarin. I took warfarin for about 4 months after DVT found, now wear compression hose, and the swelling has gone away and no pain. I was hoping to use the D dimmer results to get an idea as to whether it would probably be safe to stay off warfarin or whether it would make sense to continue to take warfarin for 9 months or so. The GP initially suggested the D dimmer after being off warfarin but now thinks the results of a D dimmer are irrelevant. Thanks in advance for any info you provide. Best, Peter

PTS or herniated disc?

Hi there! I am very confused because of te events that happened last year. In the
summer of 2010 i was diagnosed with a big disc herniation in my lower back. It
caused very unpleasant and severe sciatic pain along my entire left leg. For 5-
6months i was in hell. Nothing helped - steroids, NSAID's, acupuncture...

On top of it I was diagnosed with dvt in the same left leg - in the
femoropoplitheal vein (excuse me if i don't spell it right). The doctor rushed me
immediately after the diagnosis in the emergency center (omg) and I was put on
IV Heparin for three days and then I was released from the hospital and now i am
on warfarin like medicine (acenocoumarol).

In the mean time my sciatic pain was there, causing so much discomfort that i
could not wear any compression stocking. Long story short, after several more
months the sciatic pain along my entire leg began to diminish.

Now i have pain ONLY in my calf. It is almost constant but relieves when i am in ... read more

medical supply store vs. self measuring and buying them online? What are the
best brands?

DVT and unilateral club foot

Does anyone in this forum have club foot? I happen to be born with
unilateral club foot in my right leg. As in most cases, I had to have
a surgery when I was baby as part of the protocol to fix it. As a
result my right Achilles tendon got shortened a little bit. This made
the right calf to under develop and my left calf to over develop as an
adaption. I have 2 inches difference from my left to right calf. Not a
problem at all: the docs did a good job and I was able to do any
sports I wanted during my life and never felt any pain.

Last September I developed I DVT in my left (the non-club foot leg). I
am try to understand if the fact I had club foot in the other leg
played a role. I would make sense because in the right leg the veins
that to adapt to pump blood up w/o much help of the under developed
gastrocnemius, so I would expect that left leg to be more vulnerable
because the calf muscles there are are uber developed to my anatomy
type. I my case even... read more

Ablating the GSV (2yrs post DVT diagnosis)

My story:
I'm 43 years old. In September of 2011, I had ACL replacement surgery
to repair a knee I damaged while riding my motorcycle. I was not
allowed to do any physical activity outside of my PT & walking around
for 3 months after surgery. Mid January 2012 I began riding by bicycle
and attempting to get back into shape after what seemed like way too
much sitting around.

One night while laying in bed, I began having difficulty taking deep
breaths and I had extremely sharp pains in my back. It was so bad, I
had to take pain medication just to lay down and get any sleep. I went
to my PCP and he said it appeared as though I had pneumonia but could
not hear any fluid in my lungs. During that week, I went to him at
least 3 times because the pain had diminished but I was still
experiencing shortness of breath. even to the point where speaking
long sentences was difficult as I would run out of breath. He said I
had some sort of infection of the diaphragm (... read more

Why bother testing

I saw my hematologist today and was kind of disappointed. He did not do any
bloodwork. His take is why bother testing. 60% of the time they find a cause of
the DVTs and PEa and he will treat me the same either way which is basically
being on warfarin for life. He prescribed thigh high compression stockings which
I will have ro wear fora year and said come back in 2 months to discuss removing
my IVC filter.

I guess he has a point as all this bloodwork will cost me so much money and
since I've had clots in both legs and my lungs he suggests I stay on warfarin. I
talked to him about the side effects and he believes it's in my head and also
possibly withdrawl because I was on testoserone replacement and it was
stopped. He also said I can go back to taking the testosterone which really
suprised me. I think I need a second opinion.

I have moderate to severe RA affecting my hands and wrists. I have failed treatment with
Methotrexate and Leukovorine (& Plaquinal, Gold, all the oldies but goodies) I am currently
on 10mg. of Prednisone and my sxs are very well controlled. My doctor wants me to
consider Xeljanz as the next step. I am skeptical. I think that despite Prednisone's long-
term side effects, at least they can be controlled. Xeljanz causes some things like
Lymphomas and other cancers! It just sounds really scary to me. Anyone else out there with
RA and an opinion about the Prednisone alternative?
